The trade deadline is this Thrusday and it doesn't sound like ANY trades are actually going to happen. Every team in the league wants cap space and first round picks - including the teams that HAVE cap space and/or first round picks.

Phoenix doesn't want to trade Nash - they want to sign him to an extension.
Minny can't trade Ridnour because Ricky just tore his ACL (good news for Sergio's chances of making the Spanish National team)
Orlando won't trade Dwight Howard because nobody will offer anything worth having (I still say the Clippers should just offer Blake Griffin)
Boston was NEVER going to trade Rondo - they just like to throw his name out there to piss him off and goad him into a triple-double.
And then there's a bunch of teams wanting to offload mistakes, like Hedo Turkoglu, which just makes all the other teams laugh.
I can't even see the Blazers doing a trade. All the players we might want to trade have expiring contracts anyway, so the team might as well just let 'em go.

Unless somebody offers cap space and/or picks for them... (repeat to fade).

(The Lakers have that Odom trade exception, but they're not going to give it up because they're cheaper than they were, and even if they were going to give it up, they'd get Ramon Sessions before Felton.)

Anyone think any different?

all it takes is one stupid team to think hedo is the answer...oh shit

I think smaller trades are possible and maybe likely. I think we'll get something for jamal, I would not mind a Jamal/Sessions swap and see what Ramon can do.

God I wish Cho would have been allowed to enact his plan with the Blazers.

So presumably you envy Charlotte fans. (If such things exist.)

No just the plan he wanted to use last year. At least if you believe the rumors that he was let go because he wanted to tear things down a little bit and get a little younger.

There will be trades. Big completely unexpected trades. But very thoughtful post, Rasta. Lakers are definitely making trades and we will do something too. Nash is still likely.

No way there aren't many trades before the deadline. There are teams trying to find expiring deals so they can offer money to a good free agent pool; but there are teams trying to keep their stars. I suspect 2-3 big name moves and many moves just to get expiring deals.

I know: Charlotte is what you get when you "tear things down a little bit".

I'd say there's a big difference between tearing it down to Biyombo, Walker, Augustin and Thomas, and tearing it down to Aldridge and Batum.

Read what I said: that's what EVERYONE wants. And nobody's giving it up. Thus no trades.

but there are teams trying to keep their stars.

So the stars aren't getting traded? How is this an argument that trades will happen? I guess if you're saying teams will try to do trades to make their stars happy... But that would imply getting more than they give - and again, everyone wants that.

The trouble is, the aging, breaking down players are either completely untradable (Hedo) or more valuable to their teams because they're expiring contracts (KG and Ray Allen).

I suspect 2-3 big name moves and many moves just to get expiring deals.

Surely you've noticed by now that your gut feelings are more often wrong than right...

I hope we don't have to find out.

well some teams are in a different position. Orlando and new York have no chance being under cap and Orlando wants to keep their star. Then you have a team like Boston, whom is far enough under cap to take a gamble on getting a younger star for an expiring. Some have picks for space, others want to give up space for picks.

So the stars aren't getting traded? How is this an argument that trades will happen? I guess if you're saying teams will try to do trades to make their stars happy... But that would imply getting more than they give - and again, everyone wants that.

Absolutely stars can get traded! Some teams will late last minute until they know they can't keep their star then trade for assets and cap relief.

The trouble is, the aging, breaking down players are either completely untradable (Hedo) or more valuable to their teams because they're expiring contracts (KG and Ray Allen).

I completely disagree with that. Bostons aging stars would do well on a contender. Two of the players are expiring and a contender would take a chance on a playoff push rental.

Yes I have been wrong just as many times as you have. We aren't gms, nor have any inside information. So your guess is just as good as mine

Yes I was right about teams trading their assets and ray Allen. Do I get a gold star?

In my defense:

The trade deadline is this Thrusday and it doesn't sound like ANY trades are actually going to happen.

WRONG!

Every team in the league wants cap space and first round picks - including the teams that HAVE cap space and/or first round picks.

MOSTly right. Except for New Jersey.

Phoenix doesn't want to trade Nash - they want to sign him to an extension.

RIGHT!

Minny can't trade Ridnour because Ricky just tore his ACL (good news for Sergio's chances of making the Spanish National team)

Right.

None of those players did get moved.

I can't even see the Blazers doing a trade. All the players we might want to trade have expiring contracts anyway, so the team might as well just let 'em go.

Okay, so they kept two players with expiring deals, dealt Camby (why? Just because he was whining?) and didn't trust Gerald to opt out, and besides LOTTERY PICK!

(The Lakers have that Odom trade exception, but they're not going to give it up because they're cheaper than they were, and even if they were going to give it up, they'd get Ramon Sessions before Felton.)

Well, they did use it but it was indeed on Sessions.

I actually think the Lakers made a mistake. Kobe will be pissed at losing Fisher. If he gets bought out, then we made a mistake not trading Crawford for him.

Talking of Kobe: he's a fan of McMillan. I wonder if Nate will show up as a coach of the Lakers when Brown inevitably gets canned.
