PS4 and XBox720 games to cost $70 dollars?..

This happened last time because they would test the market with "Limited Edition" crap that was always only $10 more, people showed they were willing to pay more, so they jacked up the prices. Same thing happened this gen I'm sure.

Also... F whatever system doesnt allow used games to be played.

From what I heard that's a rumor which is untrue. Also rumor is the system will debut in the $300-$400 range, which is pretty good for a new system.

Plus when you get done with DLC most games are over $100 dollars.

good to hear. I'll still probably wait for a year or so. Usually too many bugs to work out with new systems.

Just get a Steam Box over the new Xbox. That's what i'm doing when my PC can't play games any more. Will probably pick up a Ps4 at launch if it really is $400 though.

That's my thinking as well. Something always goes wrong at first with new systems.

Havent read into steam box honestly. Is it a console or a PC add on?

It's kind of like a Gaming PC in a console's body? Best way i can think to explain it.

Valve's Steam Box is coming, and if the company behind Half-Life, Portal, and Team Fortress 2 gets it right, the next gaming console in your living room could be much different — and more compelling — than your Xbox, PlayStation, Wii, or PC.

Valve is trying to build a game console that you haven’t seen before: something that brings the PC (the big thing sitting on your desk) and the traditional console (the little thing sitting under your TV) together into a single device. A device that will run Valve’s Steam platform: the biggest digital game distribution service on the market, with upwards of 50 million users. (By comparison, Xbox Live has somewhere around 40 million subscribers.) But what does that really mean?

If you know any PC or console gamers, they’re sure to have some talking points on hand about why their gaming platform of choice is the platform to have. That’s because PCs and traditional gaming consoles each have a lot to offer for everyone who likes playing games. Consoles are easy to set up and play, great for gaming with friends and family, and comfortable to use (just try using a keyboard and mouse on the couch). Lots of people can hook up a Wii or an Xbox to the television, pop in a disc, and start playing without a huge learning curve. And while console games are usually more expensive, consoles cost much less than powerful gaming PCs upfront (high-end gaming PCs can cost thousands of dollars).

On the other hand, PC gaming has better-looking graphics that you can’t get on consoles, lots of ways to customize the look and feel of games to your liking, and more options for original content, like free games you can play in your web browser. PC gaming has also embraced the cloud in recent years, allowing users to completely ditch physical media — PC gamers can choose to never worry about losing or breaking a disc again. Did I mention great-looking graphics? Good, because they’re really great.

Based on what Valve has told us, its Steam box will — like a console — be something small and quiet that you can fit near your television while you kick back on the couch with a wireless controller. Like a PC, it will let you buy and download your games as many times as you want without needing any discs, and choose from a vast library of free game customizations. The Steam Box will also include a few unique twists, like controllers that can passively sense your feelings (biometrics), and wireless technology that can connect the console to several rooms and screens in your house at the same time.

Valve is shopping for the right ingredients — the features, parts, and partners — to make the Steam Box a reality. But why would a software company like Valve, known for its game-making chops, want to bake its own consoles and controllers? Let’s look back at 2012 to find out.

It looks like different companies will be making their own version too, hopefully not for as much as what seems to be the first one. Still having a Gaming PC in the living room will be cool for people, think of the mods in games like Skyrim for Consoler gamers!

Oh, and THE Steam Box, made by Valve, the price hasn't be announced yet, but that is the one you will probably want.

thanks vato loco!

So unenthusiastic about the next gen systems right now. Probably going to stick with the PC for the first while at least.

$70 is fucking ridiculous. How many of these games do you play for like a week or two and then put away?

Obviously games like Madden or COD are something you play for a while, but other games you have no reason to keep after you've beaten them. And if they somehow make it so you can't resell them... that's just complete and utter greed. I'm so tired of major corporations. They couldn't give two shits about the people they sell to.

I agree, but I was also listening to a Gamescoop podcast, and they were playing devils advocate and going from counterpoints. When you buy games on Steam, or IOS or whatever, you cant resell them. Its basically the same thing.

Although IOS games at most are like $15 for the HUGE games, and Steam regularly has sales.

If the next gen consoles did Steam like Sales a couple times a year, I'd calm down a little about it.

You cant compare steam with the others right now. Sony and Microsoft sell hardware at a loss and make money on software. All steam does is sit back and sell software at the advantage of not having a loss to start out with because of the hardware sales.

once steam starts selling hardware (at a loss) it wouldnt surprise me to see them do similar things

I'm talking about across the board though. Games are getting too damn expensive.... especially since the pricks want to charge us for expansion packs. I have no problem paying the $15 a month for WoW because they actually patch their shit and care about their user base. The assholes at Infinity Ward cranked out COD and then left it to the hackers and the exploiters. They don't give a shit. Once you've paid for the game, they only care about cranking out the next expansion or the next game. Patching or preventing hackers isn't even on their list of priorities.

Kinda similar with valve and counterstrike 1.6 back in the day

Shit, i wish we still got expansion packs, remember the ones for Morrowind, they were almost like a whole new game. Now we get 20 different crappy DLC's for like $10-20 a piece.

And what REALLY Pisses me off about the so called expansions for COD are that half the maps are old maps from previous versions of the game.

Fuck next gen, season passes, always-on DRM, pre-orders, microtransactions and all the rest of the bullshit that is wrong with modern gaming.

All I do now is wait for games to go on sale on Steam or back games I think will be interesting on Kickstarter.

People will probably figure out a way to get free games anyway. I'm lazy so i'll just pay the $70 dollars though.

I love the PS4, give me mah Final Fantasy fix now. :O

Dude in half a decade (or so) they'll make PS4 emulators with free games online, don't sweat it too much.

Pachter doesn't know shit. He just guesses like crazy and sometimes gets it right. The games won't cost more at retail, but look for season passes and DLC to get even crazier. Also, there's a rumor that the new Xbox will require you to have a constant internet connection. Developers really want to kill the used game market.
