I must've missed that part. Doesn't really change my opinion on the trade. Barnes isn't a difference maker. he's Sharif Abdur Rahim with an easier name to spell.Yeah, I said Jones.

They do it because they want to win now, is my guess. The older player helps them now. Anfernee doesn't (as much).

assist percentages take that into account, so if Simons really was anywhere near the playmaker Hill was it would be reflected in his percentages.
Hill is superior in almost every way
Higher PER, TS%, Free throw rate, assist rate, steal rate, turnover rate, offensive win shares, defensive win shares, win shares/48, offensive box score plus minus, defensive box score plus minus, box score plus minus, and VORP. But yeah, Simons rebounds better LOL.
But maybe most importantly, Hill is a vet you can actually trust in the playoffs
Who lead his teams no where, and was always the best player on a shitty team.SAR was one of the most underrated players of his time, I’d take that. (No I don’t think Barnes is SAR)
The pro-rated thing only effects how it's counted towards the salary cap. The player would make the same either way.yeah, I know....I was just thinking the market for 27 year old Porter might extend beyond vet minimum deals, especially considering he's a career 40% shooter from three point range. He's a decent rebounder for his position, but I'm not sure how good his defense is
you mentioned BG getting a pro-rated minimum. Is that mandatory or optional. By that I mean could a team like Portland offer the full minimum for a half season of service?
George Hill might be in a long line of aging NBA vets that goes ring shopping if he bought out. Maybe the thing to do is pick a target player, then track down who his agent is and if Olshey has dealt with him before

Pass.
I would be shocked if Otto Porter is available. He is a very very good player. No chance we're getting him for free
Also I'm sure he'd have a lot of other suitors.I would be shocked if Otto Porter is available. He is a very very good player. No chance we're getting him for free
I would rather have an injured Zach Collins not playing.Trent, Hood and Zach Collins for Aaron Gordon and Michael Carter-Williams works on the trade machine.
There's this LeBron guy. It really depends on how well that vet is still capable of contributing and the prospect of the 21 years old. But yeah, I tend to agree that you don't trade a young prospect for an old vet that doesn't have much left to contribute to a winning team.
Is this tennis or basketball?

Meyers Leonard about to be available![]()
We can agree to disagree on how much of a difference maker he is, but he's on a declining contract, while Hood and Jones may not even be here next season. And Simons has no long term role on this team, IMO.
And on the pro-Barnes stats:
He's averaging 16 points per 36 on 62% true shooting and 17.6 usage rate. The shooting may not last, but the fact that he's contributing offense on 17.6 usage rate is really what excites me, because the forwards on our team are going to be low usage. Trent has 19.9% usage, Melo is at 23%. Jones and Covington are at ~12% each. You don't think we could benefit by moving some of the usage from Trent/Melo to Barnes who would be replacing either Jones or Cov?
Plus, he plays defense, he plays multiple positions. He's a clear upgrade over Jones in crunch time when you need to space the floor, and he won't kill you on defense like Melo.
it seems pretty clear Portland isn't going over the tax line this year. They only have a vet minimum deal to offer. If Porter or Hill become free agents, I'd guess it's likely both would get more than a minimum deal. I have no clue which teams have exception space left, but I'd imagine there's enough of that space out there to price Portland out of the market for guys like Porter and Hill
I'm skeptical of this report. It smells like spin
He won't help them win any playoff series, and I whole heartidly disagree about Simons.
But grass is always greener.

honest question, not loaded: when was the last time Portland and OKC completed a two team trade?
I believe the Eric Maynor trade, 2013.
We're due!
good catch
now, that would have been before Olshey messed with OKC by extending a max offer sheet to Kanter. Both Olshey and Presti are still in their jobs so I'd wonder if there is any residual bad blood
Probably that paired with being a division rival.
his deal has a team option for next season. Safe to say Miami will waive him?
worse, for Meyers, is that he could be without a contract in less than 4 months. He might have to go thru a year or two before any team would sign him. Maybe longer because he isn't that good
2 seconds of unthinking bad mouth could cost him millions
Ahem.

(Of course, a problem with this is that we lose one of the targets of the lobs. But Nas can take over.)
Where did he say that?According to Marks, Portland can’t sign or trade for Ariza
