Don't worry about Zeke, he's going to the Knicks.

A match made in heaven. They truly deserve each other...

I think that the Blazers blowing a big chunk of their cap space on Nash would be a mistake unless he was the second-biggest signing.

If he's the biggest signing, the team will have just cemented its place in mediocrity for several years... the Blazers will be a fringe playoff team and, while they will hopefully have added a pair of lottery picks, in addition to Nash, I don't think they'll be good enough to win anything during Nash's time as a Blazer. Nash is, IMO, on the verge of having his age hit him like a ton of bricks, and I'd rather not have him sitting in street clothes as a 8-figure a year guy for a borderline playoff team.

If Portland can add a free agent that is bigger than Nash in terms of salary, then we might be getting somewhere, because if Nash stays healthy then the team might be good enough to push for HCA.

Jerry West

Nah, he'd be a double agent, just like he was in Memphis. His heart will always bleed piss and purple. He'd use our lottery picks to draft a stud, let him develop here until it was obvious he was a star, and them promptly trade him to the Lakers for a larger Dominos pizza, breadsticks and a two liter of Mugg rootbeer, and then resign and slink back to Smogville to kiss Jerry Buss' rings.

Other than that, I'd be happy with signing him...

Quote:

"We are excited to have Isiah Thompson join the FIU family," said FIU President Modesto A. Maidique. "This is bigger than basketball and bigger than athletics. Having a nationally-recognized coach like Isiah at FIU will have a positive impact on our university as a whole, helping us achieve additional national exposure."

According to Debbie Downer:

Sure, the Blazers will have plenty of room under the salary cap, a luxury the franchise has not enjoyed in recent years. But the truth of the matter is that Portland isn’t going to land an elite free agent.

The truth is that Deron Williams and Dwight Howard will have offers in cities they think are more attractive. And the danger is that Portland will make a panic signing like the four-year, $26 million deal Glen Davis got from Orlando last summer.

I'm still on the Dragic train. He's been starting for the Rockets for 15 games now since Kyle Lowery went down averaging 36.7 min, 18.5 pnts on 52%, making 2 3's per game at a 44% clip, 3.9 FTM at 82%, 8.2 Assts vs 3.2 TOs, 3.5 Rbs & 1.9 Stls. He's a Restricted FA but they've already got Lowery under contract.

Pretty sure he's UFA.

Re: Quick on progress finding a GM and goal of becoming instant contender next year (

I'm struggling to figure out the point of his article.

The point of the article is to make it appear that the author is much smarter than the Blazers' staff as far a planning for the team's moves this summer. He's of the opinion that the Blazers have to rebuild through the draft rather than reload through FA/trade moves this summer. He thinks that no big FA will sign with the team. Of course, he seems to totally miss the fact that Miller and Buchanan have talked more about making moves through unbalanced trades than through FA signings.

So many people are forgetting this, were gonna have a lot of capspace to make lopsided trades with probably two very attractive assets (our lottery picks). If we wiff on the big FA (Willaims) I'm guessing were using our Lottery picks to pull lopsided trades. We could very well see something like one of our Lottery picks plus a S&T Batum going to the 76'ers with Iggy coming back here then our other Lottery pick and someone like Smith or Ewill going to Atlanta for Josh Smith.

Re: Quick on progress finding a GM and goal of becoming instant contender next year (

Isn't Greg Jayne just playing the odds with this piece? The next time the Blazers land a big name free agent will be the first time, won't it?

Re: Quick on progress finding a GM and goal of becoming instant contender next year (

that would be even better. I saw him listed on different sites as RFA & UFA

He was a 2nd round pick, so he can't be a RFA.

Sure, but as I said in my previous post, because of that fact the Blazers are more likely to be interested in an unbalanced trade to acquire a major player than a FA signing.

Side note---looking over Houston's roster, how the hell do they have a much better record than us?

Re: Quick on progress finding a GM and goal of becoming instant contender next year (

They have two starting caliber PGs (we have none). And two above avg SGs in Lee and Martin (we have maybe one when he's hot). And a very good front court in Parsons, Scola, Patterson, Dalembert, and Camby (we just have LA and Hickson). We don't have that kind of balance or talent.

You probably could have made a case for us having more talent before the trade deadline, but not having a serviceable PG and a dumbass coach kind of killed us.

They have better wings than we do. It's hard to win when the other team is doubling down low and you don't have wings to punish them. With Ray Felton and Babbitt shooting well, Aldridge and Hickson are having good games. If this was the case at the beginning of the season; we would have a much better record. I think that's why it's soooooooooo important to find two good wing players. Players you can count on every night. Hopefully one is a superstar!

I just found it funny how when he was saying we were likely to overpay a free agent, he said remember, this is the team that signed Miles, this is the team that passed on Durant and thought Babbitt was a first round talent. Which criticizes both free agent signings AND our drafting. So would seem just advocating for new management or something. or he just wanted to throw in the Durant and Babbitt comment, even if it didn't fit his build through the draft thought process.
