If that is anywhere in the ballpark of what cally is asking/demanding slats needs to make the best deal he can between now and the deadline. He's not worth years or cap hit imo and he's been hurt so often team is used to playing without him already and at this point he is a 3rd line wing not worth that kind of investment.

If they can trade Brian Leetche than they most certainly can trade cally

I'd rather keep Richards, Callahan's not worth Dubinsky money, Captain or not. Hopefully this is an unfounded rumor, I don't see the guy as a pro in 7 years.

I'd sign Callahan for another 3-4 years but that's about it. Something like 3/17 or 4/22. Girardi is off his rocker apparently wanting a 7yr deal, he's wearing down faster than Callahan is. If they could get back a solid prospect and someone who could fill in for the rest of this year i'd move him, then just bump up everyone else and wing it.

“The Rangers are gauging interest in Ryan Callahan and I know that will be a big surprise to New York Rangers fans. There has been much speculation because of the significance of Callahan and Girardi but I am told that Rangers GM Glen Sather has reached out to a number of GMs and he is gauging trade interest on Callahan. Less so on Girardi but the sense is that the Rangers are more comfortable or at least confident that they will get Girardi signed.” (Darren Dreger on Insider Trading)

Callahan is searching for a seven-year deal that is worth more than $6 million per season. Callahan will get that type of contract as a UFA. (Bob McKenzie on Insider Trading)

Contract talks with the Rangers are not going well for Callahan (Pierre LeBrun) and one Western Conference GM said that “it’s a pretty big name” when asked about Callahan potentially being available via trade. (LeBrun)

If Cally is that crazy, move on. I get it is all a back and forth, but how is it possible Cally thinks he is worth 6 mill per season, and for 7 years...no way.

I still do not see the Rangers dealing their captain if in it, but if he wants 6 mill per you have to think about it. Just be sure you get a solid top 9 player back in the deal, and so be it.

I am sure someone would give Cally 6 mill per, or close to it, but I would not. I'd stay between 4.5 and 5 tops. And I would say 4 or 5 years MAX. Anything more than that and I'd pass. I don't think Cally is a 6 mill per cap hit player.

Dan Girardi is looking for a long-term deal, seven-years, and upwards of money similar to what Jay Bouwmeester is being paid, $5.4 million. Girardi will get that type of contract if he becomes a UFA. (Bob McKenzie)

There is a lot of trade interest in Girardi but the Rangers seem to feel more comfortable/confident that they will get Girardi signed. (Darren Dreger on Insider Trading)

Six-years from the Rangers is not out of the question for Girardi and the Rangers would likely prefer to go to five years. (Bob McKenzie)

Seems like Girardi is being more reasonable. I figured a 5 mill per cap hit +/-, and this report says 5.4, so you can work with that.

I think he re-signs before the trade DL. Maybe 5 years 5.2/5.3 or so per. I can live with that. Ages 30-34 which is not awful.

Few places reporting that talks have also picked up with Zucc's representatives on an extension. Might be a direct result of things with Cally going badly. Zucc only makes 1.15m, expect that to be up around 3 or 4m the articles say.

Absolutely no way Callahan is worth that kind of money and years.

Really like everything Cally brings but at that price trade him. See ya Capt

would anyone do Cally and a second for Moulson? Cally to his hometown area for a scorer like Moulson...

I would, but would Buffalo? Callahan would obviously walk as a FA since there's no reason for a rebuilding team to give Cally that time of contract, so basically all they'd get for Moulson is a 2nd rounder. They should be able to do better than that somewhere else.

Well they could try to resign and see if he would take a home town discount (they have some cap space for next season as well and could afford a 6m contract), they will lose Moulson either way.

how is Stepan just below Moulson in terms of salary....Moulson is a three time 30 goal scorer...what a bargin the Islanders had

I understand not wanting to lose him for nothing, but trading your captain while you're in playoff position is basically punting on the season. If they can get a 1st or an A-prospect plus a roster player for the rest of the year maybe but it still dosent seem all that logical. If they were out of the playoff race it's a different story.

but why would BUF want to resign him, though? Cally and his contract do not fit the direction they're going in. They should be able to get a 1st + prospect for Moulson at the deadline.

And agree on the bargain. Moulson has been underrated for years.

three team trade...I want Moulson and would be willing to give up on Cally....sorry Captain you are not Messier you do not demand big time salary for your level of play.

DAMIT 31! Buffalo '''these are the assets you want to build on" (waving hand and using jedi mind tricks)

Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out you delusional dumbass Callahan. Trade him. Bye, bye. I'd rather pay Kreider that money in a couple of years.

I would demand a 1st in any deal, especially if he's going to a top 10 team which is basically a high 2nd. I'd try and move him to Chicago for a 1st and one of their top prospects like McNeill, Terevainen or Pirri. Maybe StL for a 1st, Morrow, prospect.

Chicago is never trading Terevainen. Just forget that. I would think Callahan to the Ducks for Etem and one of their two, first rounders.

I don't think Anaheim would trade Etem either Dump. Chicago is stacked with prospects so even one of the others would be a nice return.

6:21PM: Girardi’s contract could be done by the Olympic break. (Darren Dreger on TSN Drive)

3:18PM: The Rangers have sent Girardi two-offers, one for SIX-YEARS at more than $5 million and one that is FIVE-YEARS and worth more than $5.5 million. (NY Post)

If they re-sign Girardi for 5-6 years were going to have another Redden situation. And no buyout available.

I'm with you mrm. 71 just hates Girardi, so anything more than 2 years at 2 mill per would be a bad deal in his eyes.

Girardi is a 1st pair dman who plays over 20 mpg for us. You cannot easily replace that. A cap hit in the low to mid 5's is not crazy. Even a 5 year deal means 30-34 age wise, not crazy.

He's not a first pair quality dman, that's the problem. On any other team he's a 3/4. Plus he's over 30 and on the decline.

On any other team he is a 3/4. Okay 71...LOL.

And he is 29, so no he is not over 30.

You are not a Girardi fan, that is cool, but let's at least be factual man.

Ok, but don't come crying to me in 2yrs when he's a cap issue. :) I bet if Sather took the time to ask AV about 5 more years of Girardi he wouldn't be thrilled.
