Wow Raging Bull only an 8? That's ridiculous. Raging Bull is definitely Scorcese's best film and is one of the greatest character studies EVER done on film. Robert DeNiro's finest work as an actor. Taxi Driver is close and I can see why some people like it more, because it gives you some closure unlike Raging Bull. But if not for one of the greatest performances ever put on screen I would put Taxi Driver above Raging Bull.

I find it hard to take you seriously now though since you think Casino is a better film than Raging Bull.

There's no universal rating system with movies. Jesus Christ, you sound like those elitist NYU film students. Just cause you say one is better, it doesn't mean it is. Chill out. That's what the forum is for. Relax Roger Ebert.

And I do believe Casino was a better film. To me, Raging Bull was a great film, probably the best work De Niro has done, nothing was forced, he really became Jake LaMotta, (and not the other way around), but I just never cared for the story, I was never drawn in, and quite frankly, I felt like the movie was rather empty. I'd take Taxi Driver over Raging Bull any day of the week. Even Casino.

I miss Joe Pesci.

And to me, Ledger is overrated. Love Leo though, he's really grown as an actor.

And Romeo & Juliet was a decent movie, not great, but decent. Not "shameless" like you say.

Yeah, because people who know more than you are "elitist NYU film students".

Taxi Driver over Raging Bull is debatable, but Casino who borrows so much from better films than it, I don't think so.

I love however, how you criticize me for saying Raging Bull is better than TD and Casino, and tell me there's no universal rating on movies, then go on to say WHY Casino is a better film.

Casino and Taxi Driver are the only 10s from that list. Goodfellas is probably a 9 and 8 for raging bull. Imo.

Taxi Driver was probably his best movie though.

And I just find it hypocritical that you tell someone else that movies they think are 10's are not and then when someone does it to yourself you call them elitists.

Yes shameless. It turns Shakespeare characters into gun toting looking guido's. That's shameless.

lol now you just sound bitter.

And it's as if you don't seem to grasp a certain concept. I said there's no universal truth as to which movie is better. IMO (In my opinion), so-and-so was better. This movie is a __ while this is a __. C'mon, now you're just nitpicking at a criterion set by myself just because you got your precious movie critic feelings hurt. Relax, guy. And I gave the reasoning due to the fact that I needed to explain why I THOUGHT it was better. Really dude, now you're just arguing on the basis of semantics. "You said this, but you said this," so on and so forth.

In accordance to what? I just didn't believe what he did. That's all there was to it. I didn't base it as a fact-totem. You REALLY need to lighten up, take a midol :ohno:.

And as for R&J, it was a decent film; however, your lack of understanding towards another individual and their sentiments are pretty amusing, so its moot. I guess i liked it and you didn't. No big deal.

Look, there's no point in arguing this. This dick-measuring contest you're trying to put out is really old, and quite frankly it's a waste of both our times. Let's just agree to disagree.

Calling Raging Bull empty is a crock of shit. That movie is far from empty.

Meh

and oh, I meant i thought the directing was, the acting was amazing in this one though. In terms of direction, I thought Scorsese did a much better job on TD than Bull. If I thought the WHOLE film was empty, I wouldn't have rated it an 8/8.5 lol.

In that case, I tend to agree. The acting definitely made the film.

Relax, I'm relaxed dude.

I grasp what you're saying but it's not true. There are movies that are definitely better than others. For example Shawshank Redemption is definitely better than movies like Shark Attack 3 or Transformers 2. Usually people try to listen to experts that have studied film and have a lot of knowledge on cinema. I'm in the movie industry, but it's probably better if I don't elaborate. I watch, on average, 200-300 films a year... which isn't nearly as crazy as it sounds. Anyways, it's safe to say I know what I'm talking about. I don't tell a mechanic of twenty years that I know more than he does and he doesn't know what he's doing. What I'm getting at is, not all opinions are created equal.

That's not to say you can't have one but I definitely know what I'm talking when it comes to movies more than you do.

Movies aren't really objective to begin with, they're either good or they're not. It's comes down to opinion if two good movies are really better than each other. In which case I usually listen to the people that know more than me.

[EDIT: I wasn't trying to fellate myself]

Wow you are blowing this way out of proportion. Dick-measuring contest? Telling me I need a Midol? Who's the one taking this more seriously?

I just thought your bullshit was hilarious how you can comment on what somebody else thinks on a movie but when I do it, you freak out. You call me an elitist and tell me I need to relax. You keep sounding more and more like a douche. Your responses sound like cries for help.

I agree this is definitely a waste of our time.

You don't know me, thus you wouldn't know how often I watch films. I'm a movie buff too, so you don't need to get all presumptuous that all us mere mortals don't know films and should take your opinion in higher regard.

Thats honestly like saying if one were to beat the meat much more than anyone else, he's the best at sex.

For real though, I respect your opinion, and it's fine that you don't like some of the same films others do. Do I like films like R&J? Sure, why not. Do I think it's a great movie? Not by any means. And I think you took it out of context when i had said it, I actually meant Leo was good in that film (not that the movie was really good, when Run said Leo wasn't that good in any earlier films [i think?]).

On that note, I'm off to the Queen's Head Pub.

Yes, I don't know you and I didn't want to make an enemy. I'm still not trying to do that, so you can just disregard my last post. I was being presumptuous and I took you for a casual movie goer. I take movies pretty seriously so if I offend you, I wasn't intending to. It's not that I take everyone's opinion with a grain of salt either.

Raging Bull is one of my favorite films and definitely in my top 5. I was just trying to get across why I don't think Casino is a better film.

I was probably molested as a child, I guess?

P.S. I didn't freak out. I just didn't like how you went all post-WWII Stalin on my ass about how I don't know shit and you do when it comes to movies. Thats all it really was. Feel free to challenge my opinions on movies, sports, game show trivia (? ), thats what S2 is for.

LOL, okay really I wasn't trying to take it this far.

P.S. I didn't freak out either, and I'm actually very relaxed.

[EDIT: I also seen you had Chinatown in your favorite movies of all time in the top 3 movies thread. Which is my favorite movie of all time. Seriously how are we not best friends?]

Get a room, some condoms, and go to town you tards.

Big Fan- 8 out of 10. Ending was crazy. If Ndamukong Suh kicked my ass so bad I woke up in the hospital, id take his ass to the cleaners.

Legion -- 5/10 -- so ludicrous and sloppy it makes you wonder how some screenplays get approved and others don't. The redband trailer was all that was worth seeing.

The Dark Knight - 10/10

Sherlock Holmes - 7.7/10

Blow - 7/10

Rambo IV - 7.7/10

Fantastic Mr. Fox -- 10/10 -- holds a special nostalgic factor for me since Dahl was the author of choice during my childhood and Fox was my favourite by a country mile. Anderson's film of it is briskly paced, has snappy dialogue, and looks wonderful. Completely enjoyable film.

Kick-Ass - 8/10

I thought the movie was hilarious, but I can see where some people might not. The movie is incredibly over-the-top and is quite a bit different than the previews make it out to be.

It looks like complete garbage from the previews but people with knowledge of the comic tell me that its a lot more vulgar/violent/crazy than the previews make it out to be. Its as if the trailers make it seem like a tween movie.

How to Tame Dragons 5/10

Maybe it would have been better if my kids were like 9 and 10 instead of 3 and 4. At 3 and 4, they were generally frightened when they weren't busy stuffing their faces with popcorn. But we'd been wanting to try a movie with them. 4 year old ended up liking it. His review:
Danny said:
Yeah, there was a scary part at first. Then there was a good part. And now the dragons are all friends.

The three year old attempted to run off, the curled up and fell asleep on my lap.

Yup, the movie surprised me. It was incredibly violent and vulgar. The best comparison I can really think of is like, Kill Bill meets a funnier version of Superbad.

The Lovely Bones- 10/10

One of the best movies I've seen in a while. I can't believe Stanley Tucci didn't win any awards for this. All around great story.

Finally saw Avatar..

7/10

Amazing picture and sound quality on blu ray. However, the story was so damn predictable. It was like watching Pocahontas again. Decent movie, though.

city of god 10/10 - can't believe i didn't see it sooner

and watched remember the titans on tv a few days ago...one of those movies you have to watch if on..10/10

Sherlock Holmes 8/10. I've read every story, and it was a tad predictable, but I like the "steampunk" action (I learned that word from Wookee, btw :) ) and the dropped references from the stories. I was watching the DVD with someone who had already seen it, and a certain points (when they showed Rachel McAdams and I said "The One who Got Away" under my breath, they're like "how'd you know that?!?"). Another example was knowing from the jump that it was Moriarity in the carriage.

Then again, I try to figure things out and talk a lot. I generally watch my movies at home, where my wife is both unimpressed with my guessing and patient.

Am I the only one who thought that someone like Paul Giamatti would've been a much better Watson than Jude Law?

Law was good as Watson but he could have been a pretty good Sherlock Holmes also.
