The directing/writing was terrible as well, but watching him ask the same repetitive questions to a bunch of Amish people for 2 hours, while butchering a classic horror film was just too much.

I did enjoy 8mm, though.</div>

I thought that movie was going to be so good going in, but like you I was dissapointed with the results....

Yep.

Have you seen it? What did you think?

<div class="quote_poster">Mamba Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Denzel's a great actor, but I think his acting wasn't as good in that movie compared to Man on Fire.</div>

Man are you crazy? Denzel is usually so passive, and such a good guy, yet he f'n hammered the role of the cold, ruthless, manipulative Alonzo Harris, he didnt win an Academy Award for this role for nothing, he was fantastic.

His acting was good in Training Day, no doubt. I felt he was so much better in Man on Fire, though and I feel Man on Fire is a better movie.

<div class="quote_poster">M Two One Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Give me some details on Baraka, Sasha.</div>
<div class="quote_poster">Quoting Wikipedia:</div><div class="quote_post">Baraka (1992) is an experimental documentary film directed by Ron Fricke, cinematographer for Koyaanisqatsi, the first of the Qatsi films by Godfrey Reggio. Often compared to Koyaanisqatsi, Baraka's subject matter is in fact similar?including footage of various landscapes, churches, ruins, religious ceremonies, and cities thrumming with life, filmed using time-lapse photography in order to capture the great pulse of humanity as it flocks and swarms in daily activity. The film also features a number of long tracking shots through various settings, including one through former concentration camps at Auschwitz (in Nazi occupied Poland) and Tuol Sleng (in Cambodia) turned into museums honoring their victims: over photos of the people involved, past skulls stacked in a room, to a spread of bones. In addition to making comparisons between natural and technological phenomena, such as in Koyaanisqatsi, Baraka searches for a universal cultural perspective: for instance, following a shot of an elaborate tattoo on a Japanese bather with one of Native Australian tribal paint.

The movie was filmed in 70 mm Todd-AO in 24 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Nepal, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States. It contains no dialogue. Instead of a linear plot, the film uses themes to present new perspectives and evoke emotion.

The title Baraka is a word that means blessing in many different languages. The score provided by Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard (from Dead Can Dance) and Michael Stearns is noticeably different from the minimalist one provided by Philip Glass for Koyaanisqatsi. Notable music was also contributed by the band Brother. The film was produced by Mark Magidson, who also produced and directed the film Toward the Within, a live concert performance by Dead Can Dance. A sequel to Baraka, Samsara, is currently in production and expected to be released in 2007.</div>

Anyhoo...

Eh.
6/10

"Blood Diamond"

I loved it, it really showed how rough the life in Africa is. Ofcourse it's not a true story, but in Africa, there are 200, 000 child soldiers and the life is crazy out there. :S
DiCaprio was great in this film, he really fit in that character.

Ya'll should go and watch this movie. At times, it really brought sad feelings.

Just saw Bridge to Terrabethia last night and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I'm usually not one for movies like this, but this one was actually really good. Ending was kinda depressing though, but didn't take away from the fact that it's a really good movie.

8.75/10

Oh yeah, I forgot - my rate for the "Blood Diamond" is 9/10. It was marvollous.

It is a really good movie. My Dad won't watch it cos it has DiCaprio in it. He is really missing out.

The Green Mile- 10/10

Ghost Rider-7.5/10
Despite it's corniness it made me laugh alot. And Eva Mendes breasts sure helped. I like the destruction his bike caused and having two Ghost Riders at one time was superb to me.

The movie should've been controlled by that guy David S. Goyer I think that's how u spell his name that did Blade 2. It was suppose to be rated R orginally but Nick messed that up. I have nothing against him except for that. I've been waiting for this movie for 5yrs and was left just a little dissapointed. The constant laughing made up for it. But the fights especially against Black Heart should've been something like Blade and Nomac damnit! Without all the martial arts, but the same intensity. With a whole lot more power.

I've added three more movies to my collection: Mean Streets, Gangs of New York, and The Prestige. I've watched two of them, so far:

mean_streets_01.jpg

8.5/10: De Niro's acting in this movie was phenomenal, greatest actor ever.

the-prestige.jpg

10/10: I was so surprised about this movie, it was flippin' excellent. I love Christian Bale as an actor, I think he's highly underrated. Scarlett Johansson can get it.

<div class="quote_poster">I-Miss-MJ Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">The Prestige - 9/10. Gotta love Hugh Jackman

The Illusionist - Really liked this. 8/10.</div>
Yea but he sort of got owned in the end.

Anybody seen 'Man of the Year' with total pimps Robin Williams and Chrstopher Walken? I'm trying to think of something new to watch, and I've heard mixed reviews on this one. If you saw it, I'd like to hear what you thought...

It was alright. I'd give it a 7/10. If you want something new to watch, try some of these...

Half Nelson -- 10/10
Unknown -- 7/10
The Protector -- 8/10
The Illusionist -- 8/10
Conversations With Other Women -- 9/10
Factotum -- 10/10
All The Kings Men -- 10/10

I don't know your taste per se but those are some good mainstream flicks. I highly reccomend Factotum, Half Nelson, and All The King's Men.

Just saw Lucky Number Slevin, might be the best movie i've ever seen. Best i've seen in awhile at least but i'm not a huge movie buff.

Saw a preview for The Protector and looks good.

Little Miss Sunshine- 8.2/10

<div class="quote_poster">Apollo Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">The Departed. 10/10 hands down.</div>

I watched it again yesterday and I think I'm changing my rating to from a 9 to a 10 as well. It was really good even though I thought the ending was just ok. How could you not love a movie with gems like this:

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Ellerby: Go **** yourself.
Dignam: I'm tired from fucking your wife.
Ellerby: How is your mother?
Dignam: Good, she's tired from fucking my father. </div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Colin Sullivan: [Fighting] What the ****?
Dignam: You ************! Cocksucker!
Colin Sullivan: [Fighting back] What the **** did you say you cocksucker? What the **** did you fucking say?
Dignam: Your mother's ****! Your mother's ****! </div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Frank Costello: [slaps cockroach] You know what I like about restaurants?
Billy Costigan: The fucking food. I don't know, what?
Frank Costello: You can learn a lot, watching things eat.
[licks cockroach off palm] </div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Frank Costello: I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me. Years ago we had the church. That was only a way of saying - we had each other. The Knights of Columbus were real head-breakers; true guineas. They took over their piece of the city. Twenty years after an Irishman couldn't get a fucking job, we had the presidency. May he rest in peace. That's what the niggers don't realize. If I got one thing against the black chappies, it's this - no one gives it to you. You have to take it. </div>

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Frank Costello: Do you like little miss thing sucking on your cock?
Colin Sullivan: [pauses] Yes... yes, I do. </div>

All the other good quotes can be found here (can be some spoilers in there too so be careful). They basically have all the dialog from the whole movie because every scene is great.

I wouldn`t be suprised if I see Marky Mark take home Best Supporting tonight.

Alan Arkin FTW y0! I thought Whalberg was weak in his delivery.

Honestly, I thought Wahlberg was the worst of the main 4 actors in The Departed. They should've given the nomination to Jack Nicholson.

Did anybody see The Last King of Scotland? I heard it was a terrible movie, but Whitaker's performance is f'n brilliant (I fully expect him to easily take BA award). Sasha, you seem like a big movie buff, so I'm mainly askin' you. BTW, How do you compare The Illusionist to The Prestige?

just got back from reno 911: Miami. pretty funny, not too great though. i guess you could say it had a bit of an overlapping plot. 6/10, maybe 7?

<div class="quote_poster">Mamba Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">BTW, How do you compare The Illusionist to The Prestige?</div>

IMO The Prestige is better, it was more elaborate and thought out...even if the ending doesn't make much sense to some.
The Illusionist was pretty straight forward once you realise what happens although one aspect was never explained.

Its weird that two magician movies came out so close together when they are rarely made as movies anyway.
