Yeah, you really can't bring the number 23 into a movie and expect it to be good. I haven't seen it, but I've heard from friends and read reviews that say it's terrible. Numerology of that kind is so vast for a movie.

Raging Bull - 1000/10

The Prestige - 9.7/10

300 - 8/10

The Departed - 9.8/10

The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly 11/10

Directed by Sergio Leone, starring Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach, and Lee Van Cleef.

I had seen this once years ago, but it was not until now that I watched it from beginning to end. Amazingly enagiging, with perfect bouts of comical moments by Eli Wallach, who is the "Ugly", and plays Tuco. Lee Van Cleef plays the "Bad", with Clint Eastwood playing the "Good". This movie has it all, except for a woman. This story deals with the pursuit of money ($200,000) and secrets involved in the location of the money. This leads to some quite comical and tense situations. All 3 characters were born to play their roles, and I must commend Eli Wallach on his Tuco character, as it was deftinteley the glue that held the movie togother.

I have no hesitation in recommending this movie, but do steer clear if you cannot stand Sergio Leone's close-ups and minutes of no dialogue, but plenty of action, and, naturally, Westerns(Wild West settings, gunslinger gunfights).

The Last King Of Scotland- 7.5/10

Great movie, but why was Forest Whitaker best actor? He was brilliant as Idi Amin, but the movie revolved around James McAvoy`s role of him being Amin`s doctor...

easily the best movie i have seen in theaters in a long time. Has everything you would want from a scary/action/sci-fi movie.</div>

Same here. 2 movies for the price of one + that amazing car chase in the end.

Good movie, but the ending was a bit weird.

I thought Paul Walker played the part really well.

^I l was expecting another lame Paul Walker movie, but I thought it was really good.

Spider-Man 3: 7/10
Good

HARD CANDY 10/10

Directed by David Slade, starring Patrick Wilson, Ellen Page, and Sandra Oh.

I will start off my review by recanting a few quotes about this film.

"Two Thumbs Up" -Ebert and Roeper
"Riveting and Terrifying" -Claudia Puig, USA Today
"The Performances are Extraordinary!" -Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal
"A Fiendish, Scalpep-Sharp Thriller..." -Dennis Demody, Paper
"Beyond Intense!.... It's 'Fatal Attraction' for a new generation." -Pete Hammond, Maxim

I'd like to expand on Pete Hammond's quote...

"Fatal Attraction meets Death Wish" - Me

I had heard of this film when it first came on DVD, but for some reason never got around to watching it until recently, last week. I put the DVD into my laptop, ready to watch it and fall asleep if it did not keep me entertained or engaged. The visual style took me in from the start, but it was not until Hayley (Ellen Page) started taking over the screen was I engulfed into this film, and HOOKED. To put it mildly, I barely blinked throughout the entire film. If I was a pedophile, this kind of film would scare the living bejezzus out of me. I am not a pedophile, yet this movie had me awake for a good hour after viewing. It is very thought provoking, and quite a marvelous film. A shaky camera is employed in scenes, and I usually do not like shaky cameras, buut it was VERY apprpropriate for this film, and the messages, feel it was trying to convey. David Slade did a remarkable job directing, setting everything up seamlessly, and Patrick Wilson and Ellen Page are eletricfying beyond believable in their roles. Don't expect much of Sandra Oh in this film, I don't think she even got five minutes screen time in this.
Paul Kersey (The character Charles Bronson plays in Death Wish) would be very proud of Hayley Stark (Ellen Page) in this film. Not very many men will be able to watch this film without cringing, and I can picture a number of women rooting for Hayley in this movie, and loving the film even more than a man could.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Running With Sisscors 2/10

1 point for good and wacky characters, 1 point for, being laughably funny, but not comedically, for being laughably bad. This is based on the memoirs with the same name by Augusten Burroughs.
Not recommended, unless you are just instatisbly curious or incredibly bored.

Gunbuster 10/10

6 episode anime OVA (Original Video Animation) by Hideaki Anno, director of Neon Genesis Evangelion.

I like to dub this "The greatest sci-fi story ever told". It just is so many levels of awesome, and sheer numbers, sheer will. Noriko, a teeange pilot of the giant mecha Gunbuster goes up aganist billions of aliens, and the fate of humanity rests on her shoulders. Gunbuster also features one of the best, if not the best endings of ALL media, IMO.

Read my review in the SM3 thread.

I've actually seen a few movies as of a late, but i'll comment on the last one

Spider Man 3 = overrated.....bad acting, bad plot, too many cornball scenes (spiderman crying, spiderman dancing,etc.)......there's some good action scenes, but it's not worth wasting your money on imo.

You make it sound horrible. It was actually pretty good.

Half-Nelson: 10/10

If it weren't for this thread, I wouldn't even have known of this movie. I really enjoyed it. The characters were so real.

^Gahhh I still haven`t seen it. I heard Ryan Gosling was awesome.

Yes, I'm bias when it comes to Spiderman. The only beef I have is that there should have been more Venom. It was cool seeing him in the final battle, but I would have enjoyed it more if he was in the whole movie.

Can't wait for the next one.

You can pick it up at Blockbuster now. I had kind of forgotten about it, but saw it when I was looking to rent Blood Diamond.

As for Gosling, his performance definitely stood out. He's definitely grown into a terrific actor (I remember when he was on Breaker High... god, that was a terrible show). That young black girl also did a good job.

*mild spoilers* Spider-Man 3

I still can't believe they got the guy off the 70s show (the geeky star wars kid) to play Venom. In the cartoons, Venom was a big tough buff guy. The hob goblin was so lame. They killed off Harry just to be original, and the scene where he died was so wack. The actual symbiote/venom was tyte, but needed more screen play.

I thought they did a good job on the Sandman. He's not that great of a villain or that interesting for that matter, but they got the right guy. The scene where Peter forgave him was cheesy. I was like, why don't they hug and end the movie there.[/sarcasm]

During the scene where Harry kissed MJ, people were like OOOOO, I shouted out WHORE!...everyone got a laugh out of it.

I want to see the Lizard and Carnage/Venom in the next one. Toby is a punk...at first he didn't want to do a 4th one because he didn't want to be just known as Spider-man. Now he's saying he'll only do it if Raimi is on board because he knows Raimi doesn't want to do another one.

Wrong. Toby will only do it with Raimi because they've got a great friendship. Also, Raimi does want to do another one and reports are he's already thinking of his villains, with Lizard being one.

Either way though, Sony pictures has stated they'd like to make 3 more, with or without Raimi, Maguire, Dunst, etc. It's a great franchise and it's popular. For the most part, the movies are decent and single-handedly revived the comic book genre, so why not.

Dirty Harry 9/10

Directed by Don Siegel, Starring Clint Eastwood.

"Well, do you feel lucky... Punk?"
If you have seen this line before, and wondered where it came from... It comes from this movie, "Dirty Harry". It stars Clint Eastwood as inspector Harry Callahan AKA "Dirty Harry". Dirty Harry works the streets of San Francisco, and often, no not often, always disregards standard police procedure. He cares more for the victim than the assailant's rights, so he in essence, takes things real personal. Real personal. a .44 Magnum is Harry's weapon of choice in the Dirty Harry films. I enjoyed this movie, the character Eastwood plays, the grittiness, the wisecracking lines uttered by Harry. This movie was made in 1971, so If you have a hard time watching old movies, this one may be a bit dated for you. Otherwise I highly recommend it. It was so good and popular that 4 Dirty Harry sequels were made.

Alpha Dog 7/10

Written and Directed by Nick Cassavetes, starring Justin Timberlake, Ben Foster, Shawn Hatosy, Emile Hirsch, Christopher Marquette, Sharon Stone, and Bruce Willis.

* copied from the DVD description*

They grew up togother in the suburbs of LA, living their own version of the American dream, with every day a blur of partying and looking for the next thrill. Johnny(Emile Hirsch) Is the leader of their sordid world of drugs, greed, power and privilege. But when he is double-crossed by another dealer, things quickly begin to spiral out of control, and an imipulsive kidnapping leads to a shocking conclusion.

*End descirption*

The characters portrayed by Hirsch, Timberlake and others are quite believable. Timberlake is a pretty good actor, even if typecast. I really liked the direction this movie took, from a high life to chaos. Emotions run high in this film, and characters' anger is really well portrayed and acted out. There is nothing soft about this film, even if I had a ho-hum feeling towards the end. I am rating it a 7/10, due to it not being too rewatchable in my opinion.

Recommended rental, but if street life full of weed smoking, drinking and swearing turns you off, steer clear of this film.

*Movie discussion about Ryan Gosling*
When you see or have seen Half Nelson, I highly recommend The United States of Leland. I recommended Fracture to my Dad without ever seeing it (how can you go wrong with Gosling AND Anthony Hopkins?) and based on a review in the paper, and my Dad said it was really good. I look forward to seein it open captioned or on DVD. (I am deaf so I require some sort of captioning or subtitling to fully enjoy a film)

Spidey 3. 7/10 I thought they could have did a hell of a better job utilizing venom. There was so little character development with the villains it sucked.

A Little Trip To Heaven 8/10

Directed by Baltasar Kormakur, starring Julia Stles, Forest Whitaker, Jeremy Renner and Peter Coyote.

Forest Whitaker plays Abe Holt, an insurance agent investigating a death that is suspicious. I stated watching this film expecting it to be just above or at a decent level of quality to watch. The cover art and the description made it seem like it would be above average. I was pleased to find myself enjoying this drama of defrauding the insurance company, selfishness and selfless sacrifice. The world of insurance claim adjusters and scammers is darkly shady, and I am sure is a big business on both ends. It was interesting to see Peter Coyote in this film, even if it was a minor role. Forest Whitaker plays the Abe Holt character really well, and Julia Stiles is equally as good in this film.

Recommeded if you enjoy heavy dramas.

Bale kicks ass like always.

Movie also reminds me of V for Vendetta.

<div class="quote_poster">THE DREAM Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Spider Man 3 = overrated.....bad acting, bad plot, too many cornball scenes (spiderman crying, spiderman dancing,etc.)......there's some good action scenes, but it's not worth wasting your money on imo.</div>

Perfectly sums up all of the Spiderman movies IMO; overrated, horrible acting, bad plot, not worth the money. I can't understand why people like them unless they are fans of the comic books or something.

Spiderman is overrated. But the action is great if u forget about them not utilizing all the characters. But yeah Venom should've had a story line of his own.

Spiderman 3: 9/10

I was pleasantly surprised after expecting the worst for the past week. During the movie, I was wavering between 6, 7, and 8's and originally thought they could have eliminated either the 2nd Goblin or the Sandman and it would've been better. But I liked how it wrapped up. I wasn't a fan of "emo Spidey" or Eddie Brock, but when Eddie got the symbiote he was awesome and I thought they did a good job with all that romantic stuff. The action scenes were simply incredible. Really acrobatic stuff that was true Spiderman. The movie lost a mark for cheesy/implausible scenes (the homo-erotic butler scene, MJ breaking up with Peter, the Bollywood-esque dance in the jazz club, the "God Bless America" scene, etc.), but none of them were bad enough to detract from the movie. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and hope to see a lot more Venom in the next movie (I'd like to see him as the sole villain).
