Ray Rice inside elevator punch video released.

Chris Mortensen said, back when this broke, that the contents of the video were described to him and he was sickened by it. It's hard to believe that the NFL had no idea what was in that video or that they didn't know a video of the incident existed that they'd probably want to see before ruling.

Goodell made a major mistake, seemingly assuming that first offenses should never be punished too harshly regardless of what the offense was, and it's bitten him several times since then.

Hopefully we'll hear more from the NFL. It might come down to what Rice told the NFL and Ravens what happened in that elevator compared to what we're seeing happening on the tape. Seeing the limit punishment the NFL gave him and the tweet the Ravens put out saying that Mrs Rice regrets her actions I'm not sure if they were given an accurate description of what really happened in that elevator.

If he told the Ravens and NFL exactly what happened then it is hypocritical to give him this severe of a punishment now but if he lied, had his wife lie and tried to cover up or mislead the Ravens and NFL about what happened that is a problem and he deserves what he gets.

I'm pretty sure the NFL knew. Goodell had even written a letter to the owners a while back informing them he'd failed them in this situation. Without having knowledge of what transpired, I can't imagine he'd have sent that letter.

So, basically because the video gets released - Ray Rice is given the death penalty. Can you imagine if there was video released of Vick's crimes?

Peter King wrote an SI article in July stating that he knew that the NFL had viewed unreleased footage from the elevator. Now today, he is saying that he wrote that based upon a source he trusted but he can't really prove that the NFL didn't view the footage.

Good for the NFL and Ravens. Classy move.

If Rice was a cop, he'd have shot her 14 times.

Sounds like Rice might have a case for a lawsuit.

Jail time seems obvious...oh, wait, he's a black sports celebrity, so ok?

If he cut McDonald before the legal system had a chance to play out, there'd be a lawsuit filed the next day against him. Now, if or when it comes out that McDonald did hit her, and at that time he does nothing, then I'm all for ripping on him for it. But he did say if convicted/guilty of it.

Not cut him

Just send him home because his actions are an embarrassment to the team and the organization.

Letting him play week 1 makes Jim Harbaugh's word mean absolutely nothing.

Weak.

Your bias against the competition barely shows.

What, you missed that very threatening half step towards him? I was concerned for him for a moment.
So... because she was so close it only took half a step to get in range, it doesn't count as an attack?

I'm not saying hitting her is justified in any way, shape, or form. He's a scumbag, and she's a fucking idiot for staying with him. But she was attacking him.

According to the police, McDonald’s fiancée is 10 weeks pregnant and reportedly had bruises on her neck and arms.

I have bias against thugs like Ray Mcdonald and cowards like Jim Harbuagh that can't even keep their word on violence against women.

Pathetic.

Safety Donte Whitner, who left the 49ers this year to sign with the Browns, told the Sacramento Bee last year that coach Jim Harbaugh “said that we can do anything in the world and we can come and talk to him and he’ll forgive us except put our hands on women. If you put your hand on a woman, then you’re done in his book.”

To let him play week 1 is a joke. His word means nothing.

Yeah, no. Not here. Roytoy is right this time.

I don't disagree. But the extra shots are unnecessary. Like most of his posts, the blind bias just makes most of his posts garbage. I do love how everyone is rolling with guilty until proven innocent. I don't know the facts of the McDonald situation, and I've barely paid attention to it as I've been pretty busy the past couple of weeks. That being said, I don't blame everyone for letting the situation play out. Goodell, himself, has said let due process play out.

When and where I will find fault with Harbaugh is if this thing plays out and McDonald's guilt and position in all of this is proven...... if McDonald isn't cut from the Niners, then I'll have issue with Harbaugh. Until then, he's not gone back on his word. And that's where RoyToy is incorrect. But what do you expect from a dude that supports a team of druggies?

Nice irony

What was he doing with her after she was unconscious?

I would not let someone who did that work for a company I owned . . . unless I owned a football team. :)

Fuck Ray Rice

Nice irony

I was waiting for someone to catch that.

But let's be honest here. RT's shots are filled with bias and are not factual. They're emotional. There's a lot of truth in the Seahawks use of drugs.

I don't think Harbaugh will coach the 49ers for much longer. You should just join the Harbaugh hate. :)

Eh, I don't really "hate" anyone. Life's too short to be wound that tight that and hold onto that level of emotion.

I don't think Harbaugh will be there forever, but I don't know that there's really anyone better out there. That's not to call him the best because I don't think he's the best. I don't really know who I'd rather have. I know that the Niners became winners again from Day One under Harbaugh. I like Harbaugh, I like his emotion and enthusiasm for the game, but sometimes it's a bit much.

I think he is a good coach, but he is wearing out his welcome in SF -- or maybe they just don't want to pay him. Look at what his predecessors did with essentially the same team. I was surprised Singletary and Nolan didn't work out. Harbaugh's in game tantrums are pretty awesome. His redass moments when talking to the press are also pretty entertaining.

The NFL has suspended him indefinitely formally. Informally, I'm sure Goodell has told every single team not to pick him up.

Frankly, I think this is bullshit. Seeing violence does not make the act worse. Yet that's what people are reacting to.

I'm frankly sick of this holier than thou bloodletting. Hey, let's hang guys like Sterling and Rice to make us feel better about ourselves and our moral superiority! We are all sinners, and we all make mistakes. These reactions, however, are over the top and too extreme.

I agree

Brody Logan @BrodyLogan

Harvey Levin from @TMZ told @TonyPerkinsFOX5 they will release news tomorrow that the NFL knew about the Ray Rice video & turned a blind eye
