Not sure OG is worth a top 5 pick, unless you're sending fodder along with it to make the cap work. I'd rather try getting Bridges for Ant / # 2 pick, or Ant/multiple lower 1st round picks. Of course if we luck out and get Wemby, you can go Ant /multiple picks to acquire a nice starter as well. Best case.
 
I would love it if Poeltl declined to re-sign with Toronto. Nurk might look a little better to them

Well he really took off when he went to Brooklyn on the offense but he knows for his defense. Hell it be great if Portland pull off something like but I don't see it. He would be 2nd best player on Portland team if he came here.

unfortunately that's true and I think it was true at last season's trade deadline. The architect of the Blazer roster for nearly a decade had his head up his ass, but was allowed to keep fucking up, year after year. And while Cronin did the necessary tear-down of the team 14 months ago, he hasn't added any value to the roster other than Sharpe

Strongly disagree; if the Blazers are trading for another teams all-star it will be extremely likely to all teams the 2024 pick will satisfy the Chicago obligation. Then an unprotected pick years later when Dame and the acquired all-star are older would be extremely valuable.

Yes there's unpredictability and downside risk, but that's dwarfed by the upside reward (from the other teams perspective) of acquiring a future Blazers lottery pick(s) possibly even #1 overall.

The vast majority of distant unprotected picks worth is the chance they become a high lottery pick. The Blazers pick would still have nearly all of that component of its value.

well, I strongly disagree with your strong disagreement. The earliest pick Portland could covey is 2026, assuming 2024 was not a lottery pick. Yeah, some GM's like to collect future picks but they usually don't pay a lot for them and I really don't believe they value them that highly. I also would doubt the Blazers would trade that pick unprotected, which drops the value further

The value Cronin added with Sharpe and now this year's draft was from him having the team tank and miss the playoffs which Neil never did outside Dames rookie year.

Acquiring players such as Grant and overpaying contracts is basically what Olshey was doing all along.

Neil was able to get ownership to spend money, add contract in trades, and pay luxury tax. Cronin might have the worst record in the NBA of getting his owner to shell out dollars.

We'll see what Cronin does this summer. I don't understand how any fans can have hope we have a way to position this roster to contend with Dame soon. It's worse than what Neil and all his shortcomings had the majority of his year's here IMO; but I'd love to be wrong.

Different, yes. Lot of unknown variables to determine how different. What is the franchise trading the picks, what year are the picks, and what are the protections.

You also left off that Toronto expected the salary of the player coming back in return to be a nice young piece, not a bad contract from a guy getting DNPs.

If Toronto ends up only getting 1 first and a bad contract for OG, I'll stand corrected. I think 1 first is possible. Combined with a bad contract seems very unlikely unless it's a top 3 pick.

That's possible, as they've been doing that for a while.

Or they'll get a better deal than 1 first and a bad contract. I'm guessing that's the most likely outcome.
 
Build around Shaedon. We have tried the Lillard build around and it hasn't worked (not Lillard's fault), nor do I think it will work in the future. The last two tank teams played more exiting ball than any make believe playoff caliber team we have had recently. I like what Brooklyn did with the Durant deal and I would like to see Portland do the same with Lillard. Does Joe have the ability to pull that off? I have my doubts.

So far in a little over a year it appears Cronin has drafted a player with superstar potential, something Olshey didn't do (he doesn't get credit for Dame). He brought in Grant for one first round pick. Grant is probably better than any player Olshey traded for in Portland, despite Olshey having made multiple trades with two first round picks. Cronin has yet to let an all-star walk for nothing or given up 60% of the starting lineup of a playof team for nothing.

Olshey was dealt a much better hand than Cronin. He was given a better roster, multiple all-stars, and had an owner that was passionate about winning. Cronin hasn't proved to be good at his job, but he's already checked some major boxes Olshey couldn't.

Trading Sharpe for anything that's not a current top 10 NBA player is a mistake. I'm sure they would listen to offers, but I sincerely hope he's not on the table for a Siakam level player.

OTOH, it's a pretty wild success that we turned the 7th pick in the draft last year into the most valuable piece on our team not named Damian Lillard. Last summer the pick wasn't even worth OG, and now it's worth more than Siakam.

I hated Oshey because he didn’t take any chances. Everything was safe move hanging on to players way to long
 
Obviously, if the Blazers get #1, Wemby is the pick. But i still think you could add Mikal Bridges for Ant / and 2 to 3 1st rounders. Which can be unlocked with an agreement with Chicago. Now if the Blazers get the #2 pick, i could see the Nets wanting the chance to draft the splashy Scoot, and sending Mikal Bridges to the Blazers for that pick & Ant. It's about time the Heat start to retool as well. Sending 2 to 3 future 1st and Nurk / Nas for Bam may work. It's all speculation. But there are moves that can be attempted to build around Dame. Plus you still have Sharpe. I just don't see the Blazers giving Sharpe up for anything other than An All Star starter and a future 1st.
 
What's really fun is that we have about two and a half months of this shit before the draft and then a couple of weeks until the signing moratorium ends. That's a lonoong time listening to crazy trade proposals and arguing over everything Dame says between now and then.

Just have to be patient till the Draft Lottery on May 16th, then it really gets fun to speculate. Looking forward to the NFL Draft at the end of this month . Always a fun 3 days.

The first part of this take is wild to me.

What are the odds Sharpe ever turns into a top 10 player? I would think an optimistic person would say 50% chance, even though the true odds are probably much less.

To think anyone would turn down a sure top 10-20 player for the outside chance Sharpe develops into a top 10 player seems very wreckless. And please don't take me saying the odds of Sharpe being a top 10 player are less than 50% as me hating on his game or saying it's impossible for him to achieve that status. But if that's where people are valuing him right now, there is a great chance people will be disappointed in him down the road, even if he turns out to be very very good.

My position is that dumping our most valuable asset who is under team control for the next 7-8 years for someone that isn't a clear top 10 player does the franchise no favors because we wouldn't even be home court contenders on paper. That type of deal doesn't interest me and I'm fully aware that the other option is to trade Dame, which I am absolutely okay with. Cronin and the franchise may see things differently, in that they're fine with just being a middle of the road playoff team or they think Dame and a Siakam level player puts us in contention. I disagree but again this is just my position.

I think the second part of your assumption is inaccurate.

Fair that you love Sharpe's potential. I don't agree that Sharpe's potential is so high that it's worth more than a proven All-NBA player. Just a difference of opinion I guess.
