But if we do Dame dirty we won’t get any Free agents. Man we need lots of draft picks, it’s our only chance.
I disagree. FAs with their pick of destinations generally want to go to a franchise where they can get paid and win. For Portland to land Free Agents of note, first they'll need to have Scoot, Shaedon & ??? develop over the next couple years to the point where the league is taking notice that they're going to be great. If that is happening & management has cleared space resisting the temptation to overpay for short term bandaids alla NeO, Free Agents will come. 3 years from now they'll be looking out for their own best interests and won't care about what happened with Dame any more then they wanted to come here to play for peanuts for the chance to play with him... they'll want to get paid and win.

So yes, management accumulating draft capitol and continuing to draft well will be important but not as important as committing to a long term plan of developing and setting the stage for big moves in a few years when they're ready to rock.

I'm listening to this right now but it sounds like Siakam didn't want to come to Portland at all.
I was at the Raptors game at Moda last season. It was like being in Canada. The singing of Ol' Canada was louder than any i had ever heard before an event with a Canadian team. It was Toronto West.

The cupboard is pretty bare at this point. I'm not even sure if we'd sign someone at this point because it would push us over the luxury tax.

As it has always been...Look at the top free agent signings and top trades in the history of the team. It's always been the draft.
Traded for Sheed, Damon, Pippen, and Nurk. And we’ve been good at signing our own FAs.

Yeah I highly doubt we sign anyone until the Dame trade is done - we might have a full roster after the trade.

Blazers have I believe closer to $7 million under the tax but again not clear if they will take on any salary in a trade and yes might need to keep some room to pickup someone during the season.

Jody has also shown she wants to just pocket cash, so Blazers haven't gone right up to the tax the last few years, instead staying 5-10 million below it.

Cronin said that we're unfortunately in a holding pattern on free agent signings until we see what happens with the Dame trade. He said it's unfortunate because players aren't willing to hold out to see what Portland can offer which he doesn't blame them but it sucks for us.

It's low risk for us. We're not winning next year. We don't need to lock up any free agent. We can just stink on ice this year, save a bit of salary cap and spend it in the future when we have a better idea of our needs.

yeah, I have been wondering about this. Not necessarily regarding OKC but all teams. I am hoping for a young "big" to get cut.
Obviously, it won't be a big-name player but maybe one that our staff thinks they can develop.

Really like Jaylin Williams from Arky. Doubt they cut him, still on Rookie deal i think but he his a charge taking machine

Until the Dame trade is done, we aren't adding anyone of significance. The last thing this cheap ass ownership group wants is to waive guaranteed contracts, and we might need roster spots to acquire guys in trade.

Yeah but when would the thunder have to cut down their roster? September?

Really?

TPE. $8+ million. Hunt big guys. Not can’t move, 2 years from 2 years from Euro play. Athletic, good feet, defending, rebounding, rim running bigs from 6’10 to 7’0 and lean — not emaciated. Guys who can stay healthy.

Nurkic and Nas are the two to shop as the season goes along. Simons gets added to that list if all 3 guards are looking great and sacrificing him gets a higher quality 3 or 5 — Simons is McCollum 2.0

3 of those contracts have zero guaranteed money so are probably just summer league/training camp guys that will be cut anytime.

Rudy Gay is 37 and was drafted with LMA/Roy... can't believe he still has a guaranteed contract. They probably just cut him.

Similar with some other veterans, Oladipo/Bertans/etc. Maybe they can agree on a buyout.

Then theres a few of these players like Jermiah Robinson-Earl that I guess could just be cut.

But yeah I believe the team can carry 20 guys until we get to the end of the pre-season so not sure why this is being tweeted now.

TPE and MLE don't really matter if the Blazers are up against the luxury tax, the team has never paid tax since Jody took over.

We need to see where the team salary is after a Dame deal. The Blazers are going to be well above the salary floor regardless - so I could see Jody just pocketing any cash even if there is $5-10 million of room under the tax/TPE/MLE/etc.

I agree but I would include a quality 4 as well with that description. Grant can play the 3 and besides that who knows how long he will be around. We need that big who can "get to the ball"

You guys realize we are going to tank this yr, right?

I compare this season to 06-07, Roy and Aldriges rookie year. We won 32 games that season. Ime Udoka was our big FA signing in the summer and he started 75 games for us.

And out most substantial trade acquisition the summer prior was Jamaal Magloire.

We aren't adding anyone worthwhile.

I'd say we need any one of a quality 3, 4, or 5 long term.

We are good on guards right now, but everywhere else is wide open. Grant I don't think is around long term, even if he is he can possibly switch between 3 and 4 as he has positives and negatives for either position. Nurk I doubt is here long term and even if he is plays fewer minutes while missing tons of games.

So, you're saying that we added an all-star :)

I thought you could have 20 guys on the roster leading into the preseason?
