It’s time.

Only three rules:

—No Stotts
—New GM
—Mutually send Dame to a destination that makes sense for both sides: fit/assets.

Find a way to land Suggs or Cade as the foundational piece.

Go!

I don't think that is an awful idea. Worth considering. But it won't be considered. Dame is the messiah to this organization. But without the rose (see what i did there) colored glasses you can see he has reached and probably passed his prime.

You can see my point by the one word dismissal of this notion. Dame is not a top 5 talent. There are like 3 untradables: Steph, Lebron, and probably Giannis. The rest is fair game. You have to plan for the future when it's clear you aren't a contender. They need to plan for post-Lillard ball.

I think if we traded Dame I would just take a break from the league for a few years. I’d rather see Dame retire at 37 with the team without a ring, even if it means mediocrity for the rest of those years. But for sure get rid of everything else around him.

Crazy to see people turn on Dame after a rough stretch. Dude was top 3 MVP candidate at the all star break and the only reason this franchise is relevant.

I was actually messaging with TBpup since the last Memphis game wondering if it’s time to complete blow it up. I’m just not sure.

How is trading Dame to a real contender so he can get a ring giving up on him? If anything it's the opposite. I think it could be argued that it is selfish to want to keep him here, mired in mediocrity.

problem is contenders don't usually have assets good for rebuilding, especially high draft picks

and another problem is Dame's super-max contract. Teams aren't going to be lining up to take that on

First off, hello? Sup.

The OP is not crazy.

Can we win a title with Dame as our best player?

Can any team win a title with Dame a their best player? The answer is no. Kyrie Irving, who is better, and way more skilled than Dame proved he cannot carry a team as the best player, so Dame has zero chance of doing that especially in the West.

I agree with the OP. I want to do right by Dame. However, I also want to make a business decision.

Hypothetically, what can we get for Dame?

Where can we send him?

Does he want to do what he once bashed and team up with superteams?

What can contenders offer a rebuilding franchise?

I am 100% all in on a rebuild, but that is just the opinion of one man. I think we can get a pretty haul for Dame and CJ. We don't have a true superstar, that other superstars want to play with. That is how the league is build now. You either trust the process like Philly and Golden State, or build super-teams like Brooklyn and LA. The former is more feasible imo, because people are not lining up to play with Dame like they are LeBron, Kyrie, or Curry. We are also not bad enough to get #1 draft picks.

Olshey found Dame and CJ, I trust him in a full rebuild.

LOL....Dame and CJ are the core of the team (and Portland was all over Dame before Olshey arrived). Olshey built the team around those two and it has been a failure....according to you who wants to shitcan the experiment and rebuild. If Olshey has failed once, why the fuck would you trust him to not fail again?

the absolute worst thing the Blazers could do is trust Olshey with a rebuild...9 more years of snake oil and bullshit

To give up on the team because Stotts doesn't know how to coach is giving up way too easy. It's totally possible this team can't win a championship, but we have a damn good roster who should go deep in the playoffs.

I'll fire Stotts and replace him with someone competent before I give up on the entire roster. That's silly.

You don't need to totally rebuild, You're not going to win a championship that way. You just need to get a new coach along with a new staff. I like the CJ for Gordon Hayward swap now that we have Powell.

Olshey actually didn’t find Dame.

Sounds like an awful deal considering Hayward is an injury waiting to happen.

We should be giving this entire team another chance with a new coach to finish out the season.

If things continue to tumble, look at building around Dame with some new key pieces.

I wouldn’t trade Dame away yet.

This is obviously to the Sixers for Ben Simmons, but if they wouldn't give up Simmons for Harden, why would they do it for Dame?

They would do that in a heartbeat

if Portland traded Dame and kept CJ, I would stop caring at all about the team.[/QUOTE

I think 2/3's of the league is drunk on snake oil. Think about the teams in the league now that have never won a championship throughout the many years.
And I thinks its getting tougher with the super teams and such. Im rooting for the Jazz, Memphis & Phoenix types to win it all but as they never have and they are damn good ball teams, but its going to be tough.
I really am hoping for new ownership and management/coaching.

That’s because of the grudge between Morey and Tillman - the Rockets owner
Okay then, this is your first move:

A starting lineup of CJ, Powell, RoCo, Simmons and Nurk (with Simmons playing PG from the PF position) is exciting. Instruct Stotts to play uptempo with fierce D (a la Memphis) and fire him if he doesn't.

Meanwhile, Philly replaces Simmons and Seth Curry with Dame and Thybulle, and brings Curry off the bench. Their defense takes a bit of a hit, but Dame complements Embiid so much better than Simmons...

Yes, Simmons can't shoot but wouldn't it be nice to have an all-D candidate in our starting lineup? Next to two very solid defenders in RoCo and Nurk? I salivate.

God how long have I been telling ya this? Noooooow ya listen smh

Then hit his annual slump at the worst time
