Yeah I don't like Staind either, their guitarist is horrible he believes dropping the guitar as he does actually sounds like music when all it does is kill the guitar's purpose of melody and art. Thing is though, they are good live. I seen them as an opening act in 99' when I used to be into that type of music before I discovered new things.

Tangerine Dream - Bath Tube Sessions - C-

Not feeling it I understand this is somewhat of a jam session recording, but the bass line is poor to me. I'm an accomplished bassist and I just wanted to smack their bassist for playing like that. The song itself is rather random, which is cool, but I didn't like that it had no actual flow to it. Tangerine Dream are pretty good, but this one just isn't my thing. Not horrible, but not something I would put on for a good tune for myself.

New song is from the Doves. Awesome video and song, one of my favorites of all-time.

They're awesome live, amazing voice.

I'd say his voice is alright, he doesn't have a great range. But at least he sounds exactly the same as on the albums, which is almost unheard of in that genre of music. That's why I give them some respect still, even though I'm no longer a fan.

I still enjoy their tracks "Raw" and "Suffocate" from time to time.

I actually feel his voice is great. He does have a better range since he quit smoking. To each his own.

I will agree with the statement on Aaron Lewis with that his voice has gotten much stronger since he quit smoking and his range is much higher now. Personally, he's got one of my favorite voices in all of rock music (right up there with Brad Arnold and Chris Daughtry) and I love their music. And they are great live, I've seen them twice, once as an opening act for 3 Doors Down (speaking of Brad Arnold, his voice is amazing live) back in '05 and headlining the Jagermeister tour last year. They put on great shows each time, and Aaron Lewis sounded great each time, especially with his acoustic stuff. I think you underestimate his range, you should really listen to Chapter V to get a better understanding of it, cause it's MUCH better than what it was a few years ago.

I used to give singing lessons professionally, I know range. I'm not bashing anyone's opinion, I'm just letting you know mine from that perspective. That's great you both like his voice, more power to you. Also, I've heard the new stuff. Two friends of mine let me hear the band's new album every time they release one.

Aaron Lewis. Range? Oh, I told myself I would stop.

Ah come now bro, let's not argue on that. Let's continue the thread, yeah?

That was an awesome song you posted M21, absolutely love how the chorus picked up. The video was beautifully done, beautiful colors. What are some other songs by them? Sad, indeed.

The thread is now cleaned up, let's get this going again.

I didn't do anything. Delete this post you made and then mine as well and let's continue.

The band is from the UK. They remind me a bit of the Flaming Lips in a sense, strangely though before forming Doves they used to actually be successful techno artists! Two other great songs from their last album are listed below with link. To anyone, do not rate these.

Black and White Town

Snowden

I'd like to get to the Damien Rice video, but I need to get to bed and someone else should probably get a chance to view it since I know the singer anyway.

Beautiful song, beautiful video. I think it should be everyones goal in life to see Rice live..well it's my mine anyway. He just has a such a pleasant/beautiful voice. And his songs are so well orchestrated.

That really wasn't my stuff, but it wasn't bad. He had a decent voice. You might want to get a second opinion on it from someone else.

Daughtry - Home

Love the song, and the video even more. It's an unofficial video...Bush bring back our troops.

Daughtry - Home - C-

Never heard of this guy I was hoping for something really good here. However, these singers are a dime a dozen (in tone and vocal style) in the media so I'm not impressed at all with this. The way the song is done is so typical I just couldn't take it. I felt like I heard it already several times in my lifetime. However, the video this fan did was really nice, which prevented me from giving it a D. Really a shame those kids are being killed for such a useless "war," but I won't get into that in this music recommendations thread.

New song is one of my five favorites of all-time. Also my second favorite music video of all-time. Rivaling the strangeness of Tool, but in a way only American McGee can do it. What a crazy ass mofo. Love the point they make in the end. The band that revolutionized heavier music into more beautiful and organic original music.

Dredg - Same Ol' Road

* This is also the band I had a signature and avatar for back in 2004 when I first joined up. Some of you remember it I'm sure. Ah, the old days.

* Sasha, better stray from this one I already know your love for this band. lol

I love this song! Great recommendation... I've heard you and Sasha talking about them but I haven't really made the effort to get into them myself... I'll have to download some more of their stuff now though.

And it's funny that you bring up Tool, because that's the first thought I had when I started watching this video, "Wow, looks like a Tool video." It's a different style of music though - a lot more romantic and spacey. It kind of sounds like a mix between Radiohead and Tool to me. I'm really looking forward to hearing more of their stuff.

Shoulda known you dug them, seeing how you're into the bass as well, and they introduced slapping into the world (arguably, I know, but I've always felt that way at least).

YouTube can suck sometimes though. I never find the songs I want on there anymore.

Yeah I'm a slapper myself I never believe in playing the bass with a pick, it just isn't the same most of the time. I can only accept a pick if the song doesn't need the precise play of the bassist's fingers or thumb.

I donno if they introduced slapping into the world, I really don't anyway, but either way they're still legendary. Have something else to replace the video? I want to get in another recommendation tonight before I get to bed. lol

Strange that Youtube users have the ability to block off site play like that.

Yeah, I replaced it. Check out my post. It's a Zero 7 song. I don't know if you've heard of them, but they remind me of Air. In fact, I've got to thank Sasha for getting me into them. He brought them up in an old thread I made about Air, and now I'm hooked.

Zero 7 - In the Waiting Line - A

Great song, Zero 7 always put out solid atmospheric music. This song is no different and the video really captures the "image of the song" if you understand what I mean. The best way to describe it simply is dark, relaxing and ambiant.

Next song is from a nice CA band who seem to get no love in the US despite their talents and unique blend of several genres. The song is short and nicely written.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Ain't No Easy Way

That was a great song. I love the country twist to it and the vocals were on point. The video fit the song, perfectly IMO.

The Eagles - Hotel California
Invalid Video Link
Just heard from my sisters room, completely forgot about this song, actually. I figured I'd throw it up.

Hotel California - B

I know it's generally considered a great song, but I always found it hackneyed and hard to listen to, like most Eagles stuff. I'll give them credit for sounding so amazing live though, and the solo's something to really appreciate.

New Song:

Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun

That was a really good song with a very, very interesting video. I will admit I did like the video though, it was out of the ordinary. Chris Cornell's vocals were on point, as usual. Great voice. The solo was good, the video really fit it. i'll def. check out some more Soundgarden material.

Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise

Grew up listening to this...

Phil Collins - Another Day in Paradise - B

My God, old days for me when I listen to this. I know a lot of people hate Phil Collins, not a huge fan myself, but really he was a pretty good musician. The beat was done well to make it avoid being too repetitive throughout the song and the video itself was cool for the age of it considering many older vids are crap. This song is just screaming 80's style and well, I'm a fan of plenty of 80's junk. The Cult in particular. Haha! Well, it isn't junk to me. Anyway, I prefered Genenis over Collins' solo career though.

My last recommendation of the night comes from Elbow and I've wanted to put this video up for quite some time. I'm going for it all today, playing my three favorite videos of all-time. Doves - There Goes the Fear, Dredg - Same Ol' Road and now for the finale. Just hate how the song is shortened.

I was jammin' this song full blast in a limo on my way back home from the airport last month. One of the best, if not the best climaxes to any song, ever. The driver was headbangin' and dancin' the whole way to it, I'm surprised we weren't pulled over from his driving. Woot!

Elbow - Forget Myself

The video was awesome, great cartoons. The bouncin' boobs on the chick cracked me up. Very strong ending.

...don't mind the video...mind the song.

They're actually one of my favorite bands from the '90s and easily the best thing Chris Cornell has ever done.

C

One of my least favorite songs from the new album. Though a C is pretty good for a "least favorite" song. Here's mine...

The Divine Comedy -- A Lady of A Certain Age

The Divine Comedy - A Lady of A Certain Age - A

Some of the best lyrics I've heard since Venus' Vertigone album. Most notably in the chorus. Very relaxing and well written musically as well. Surprisingly I don't know much of the Divine Comedy, but surely I will in the coming months. Thanks, Sasha.

My next song .. I made the video myself. lol

So here it is plain and simple .. for me personally, the greatest written song lyrically and quite possibly musically of all-time. I love the story that is "told." One of the hidden gems of the music world. Set between John Barry and the Jewish Folkore along with the full Ensemble Musiques Nouvelles, Venus played a sold-out show in Brussels.

Lead violin and upright bass by band members Christian Schreuers and Pierre Jacqmin, respectively. From their album The Man Who Was Already Dead, which I hold in high regard as the greatest album of all-time. A simple "video" that showcases the lyrics.

Venus - White Star Line

Invalid Video Link

Soooo damn beautiful. The song, not the video. lol

B+
The music was ABSOLUTELY beautiful, some of the more finer music that has ever graced my ears. The lyrics were awesome, although I'm not to fond of the singer's voice. Such an emotion packed song, I've listened to it 5 times today.

Andrea Bocelli - Con Te Partiro
Invalid Video Link
This song holds a very special place in my heart, as it was one of the 16 songs on repeat at my grandmother's wake, she absolutely loved him. This song brings a tear to my eye every single time I listen to it. Absolutely amazing song for me, personally. (the video is off with the singing)
