Parallel Universe - B+

HAHA! The bass line is taken from a Mega Man game keyboard riff. Nice by Balzary. Goes to show how influental games really are these days to everything. The solo at the end was good and the song was good in general as well, not too repetitive by the RHCP. Not a fan of Kiedis' vocals, never have been. In my honest opinion this band lives and dies off of Balzary and Frusciante. Good stuff.

Next up a special song .. so many music styles into one. This is the definitive of emotion in music.

B+. I really liked the intro, and the guy seems to have a good live voice. I also liked the changes in the song. One minute it's soft, and then it gets heavy at times. I was expecting a crazy guitar solo, but hey still a good song.

Thank God. I can't stand guitar players soloing. Half of the motherfuckers our there right now can't harmonize well enough with their own band members, yet they want to try out a solo. It just blows my mind.

Typical Jack Johnson. I love his stuff sometimes, and then other times I think it's so fantastically mediocre and don't care for it. It's weird, it's a whole 'nother mood swing I have for music, this one being one of the more extreme. As well, I didn't think In Between Dreams was as good as Brushfire Fairytales, my favorite from him.

My next pick probably won't be well received as it is rather weird, but I'm into this type of music, and even weirder stuff, so bare with me. It's a remix of the Tool track Parabola done by this guy Lustmord. Lustmord specializes in dark sounds, often taking samples from crypts or other dark places. The key to listening to this track is to have your headphones on to get the full effect. The track originally appeared on a Tool DVD, and since it's conversion to mp3's and now to a video file it has lost much of it's essence of what makes it great in terms of what Lustmord applied to it. Anyways, enough of my ramblings, here's the video.

It really wasn't that weird. That was pretty good, what is some other stuff that he's remixed? Like you said, it's really really dark. The background chants sounded very middle eastern...some of the most interesting music I've heard.

He's only remixed two tracks for Tool, for which two DVD's were released to accompany the remixes with videos and commentary. That was the first, and here is the second one, split up into two parts as it's too lenghty for YouTube...

He has an extensive collection of work, and has done stuff for numerous movie soundtracks as well. He's probably scored your favorite movie, haha! Also, he's in the studio with Tool's frontman right now working on some solo stuff. Should be exciting.

BTW, did you listen to those with headphones on? You gotta if you haven't, it makes it ten times better. As for the chants, that's just Tool's frontman in the beginning of the original song. He kind of drowns out his vocals, and Lustmord did an amazing job here just running with that idea into something way more unexpected.

I agree about the use of organs, should be used more often. Venus comes to mind.

fIREHOSE - Down With The Bass - B

Good stuff, nice bass line to keep the song at a pace. There isn't much of a change throughout the song, but I always have to think to myself that not every song can be that way. Anyway, I liked it. I haven't heard much of them before so thanks.

New song is my fianc?e's favorite. Great video too, never suspect the ending I'll tell you that. As always too, the video is shot in Iceland. The E-bow used on the guitar for the climax is almost unreal. Amazingly done, just be aware the song is long.

Those dolls in the beginning are creepy as all hell. The piano is nice. I can't stand the vocals, the voice is too distorted to enjoy for me.

Man, this is such a coincidence. Me and my friends were all sitting around watching this the other day stoned off our asses, and I loved every second of it. We came to the conclusion that Michael Shrieve was on something that whole solo. Look at how his face keeps twitching. Dude's ****** up.

Not a huge fan myself, just of this particular song. It's one of those situational things where you like the song more for what it makes you reminisce about than the actual music.

I think I should probably change it, because I'm not sure if anyone else would be into it either... one moment...

I didn't like his monotone voice all that much. I'm all for the lo-fi indie type stuff and I love Smog, but this guy is just annoying. I liked the video though.

I like most of John's stuff, and Inside of Emptiness is one of my all time favorite albums but I just never fancied this song all that much. Good lyrics, but it didn't have quite the music to push it through.

I wanted to bring in more Frusciantiness to this thread, but You Tube had nothing I was looking for. So, here's something a wee bit different than his stuff, but nonetheless cool...

Completely ignore this pathetic video. This song was one of my favorites when I moved from Virginia to back to California in the middle of my HS years. I was pretty depressed at the time, so that explains why the lyrics really expressed how I felt.

I really wasn't feeling the music personally, but I can see where you're coming from with being depressed and this being the kind of music you fell into. I personally listen to a completely different style of music as an outlet for depression, but like I said, I can definitely see where you're coming from with this song, so I gave it a decent rating. Man, changing high schools half-way through... can't imagine.

I just found this on Youtube - it's a recording of Pete Droge's 'Small Time Blues' from the movie 'Amost Famous'. I've searched and searched for this track on an album, but can only find the regular radio recording. This is a special cut just for the movie, and this is the scene it's in. The film is one of my personal favorites, and it's a very cool, chilled out song, IMO. Hope you guys enjoy...

Did anybody see The Last King of Scotland? I heard it was a terrible movie, but Whitaker's performance is f'n brilliant (I fully expect him to easily take BA award). Sasha, you seem like a big movie buff, so I'm mainly askin' you. BTW, How do you compare The Illusionist to The Prestige?

Rice is one of my favorites, so soothing, and comforting. Though 9 was a bit of a letdown, I really like this song. The climax reminds me a bit of Eskimo. Good stuff, here's mine...

It's from the movie Philadelphia with Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington. The aria states the following more or less: "I am divine. I am oblivion. I am the god... that comes down from the heavens, and makes of the Earth a heaven. I am love!... I am love." It's one of the most beautiful scenes I've ever seen and it's the song that introduced me to the fine talent of Maria Callas and the world of opera. Try this too...

Not a huge opera fan, but it's real chilling sounding... especially with the "lyrics" you posted. Good mood music.

The movie reference made me think of my favorite love making scene in a movie. It's from Cruel Intentions where Sebastian meets Annette at the top of the escolator and has sex with herand it's real passionate and good. But yea, the song playing the whole time is Colorblind by Counting Crows which is a favorite of mine... so here it is.

Nice song, fits the movie very well. BTW, that "Well, I'm in love" line is awesome. I've never seen the movie, I thought it looked cheesy but that was good. Here's mine, with the lyrics provided.
