One word: annoying.

The music was decent, but the voice was extremely annoying, and she had nothing but a bunch of bullshit to say. This is one of the most esoteric pieces of garbage I've heard in a while. And what the hell is with the crowd cheering at a whole bunch of nothing? It's like, you get someone up on stage who speaks fastly and throws around words that sound important but have no meaning in the context, and you get them to throw around cliches, and people go wild cheering, like they've got some genius message.

Here's my offering:

Spruance, Secret Chiefs 3's chief composer and a former guitarist for Mr. Bungle, is a visionary madman capable of instilling both fear and respect in his listeners. Secret Chiefs 3 have existed in various incarnations over the course of the past eight years, and have served as the funnel for Spruance's remarkably far-flung studies of the hermetic mysteries and musical traditions of unknown and underappreciated subgenres. Album titles like Grand Constitution and Bylaws and Book M hint at the music's vaguely metaphysical bent. Over three years in the making, Book of Horizons is Secret Chiefs' most expansive and coherent statement, an alchemical fusion of Morricone-esque cinematic grandeur, midnight surf guitar, traditional Middle Eastern rhythms and time signatures, demonic death metal, and electronic deviance that yields a work of undeniable force.

Nah, been kinda strapped for cash. I'm actually going to pick it up today though. Talkie Walkie is one of my all-time favs though... probably one of my top five most played albums I own, and I own a shitload of albums.

Cool song. I'm not huge into Damien Rice, but all of my friends love his stuff, so I've been listening to a lot of it lately just kinda by association. A bit of terrets going on there though... did I hear right? Like a rootless... **** you, **** you, **** you?

D, never knew William Shatner did music aswell. Wasnt really feeling the song at all, it wasnt too bad, just kind of too slow for me.

One of the best songs of all-time, period. I still like them a hell of a lot more then the Mars Volta.

Dredg - A-

Didn't really get the video. I mean, a penguin, a person with down syndrome? Didn't really connect. You were right though - haunting music. I love Dredg; thanks for turning me onto them and Venus. I probably prefer Venus at the moment, but you can't really go wrong with either one. Both are two of the greatest unknowns out there (at least unknown in the sense that no one on the mainstream knows them).

Mr Bungle - Pink Cigarette - A

Nice find here. Very unique song with a unique stage set up for the live video. I like the simple vocals and basic approach they used for every verse. It blends together, still making each minute brilliant. What's up with the bassist though? haha!!

New song is by dredg, sorry, just felt like making my own video. lol

Nothing special with the video, just tells you what's playing. I took a blend of two tracks that are supposed to go together so I hope you like long songs before you play this. This is from Leitmotif, which was more of a so-called "jam session" album so don't expect to understand the lyrics because they're random anyway and most of it is babble. Sort of like what Sigur R?s does with their Hopelandic language.

As for the songs, genius. Everything from the intermission intro to the main track itself. So many different styles blending together. This is meant for high quality headphones or stereo so if you have either, blast this track.

I like some of the French groups M Two One has recommended for me, but that was hard for me to listen to because it was in another language, probably because I've heard it in English before. Either way, I thought the singing was dry and uninspired. Maybe that's because it was lost in the translation, but whatever the reason, I really prefer the original. The original is simply an amazing song.

New Song:

Sorry to break the YouTube trend, but I couldn't find this one on there. It's a song called "Good Thoughts, Bad Thoughts" by Parliament Funkadelic. They're definitely one of my favorite groups of all-time. I've seen George Clinton five times, I've got all their records, and they inadvertently got me into the older RHCP stuff because Clinton produced it. For any of the RHCP fans in this forum, I suggest you check this out, because those guys were heavily influenced by this group.

Just let it play in the background, listen to the spacey, simple, yet brilliant guitar solo, and wait for the vocals to kick in - they're deep and soothing, and the lyrics are very poetic and inspiring. Enjoy:

Second best "Ice Cream Man" ever recorded. Check out the Tom Waits version from his '73 debut album Closing Time. Anyway, as for this particular song, I've really just never been able to get into any 80's hair metal, even Van Halen. I admire his ability and acknowledge that he's one of the most technically proficient guitar players of all-time, but I've always kind of found most of their music hokey.

I didn't mind them so much, I always thought the song was kinda funny. I suppose that's 'cause I first heard it when I was a little kid. Anyway, it is a good track. I think the ending is what basically makes the entire song stand out for me though nowadays.

Rosie Thomas - Much Farther To Go - D

First, don't take this as some backlash, because it isn't at all. I just don't like many female vocalists because most women don't have much vocal range. This voice is so typical I thought I'd heard it a thousand times over. The music is pretty drowned out and ongoing with a struggle to find any real major point to it. Reminds me somewhat of Half Asleep on what she's tried to do, but a piano expresses more emotions alone. I'm sure that would've worked out much better for this track.

Very cool video, not my favorite track from them, but the repetitive tempo is made up for by nice vocal expression and musical strength in the chorus.

I'm not feeling that song at all, found it rather boring. The tempo, like you said, was repetitive and awefully boring. I found the vocals to be poor, as well. The video is cool, though.

Nah, that's just media BS. Males actually have three times the vocal range of females, depending on how hard they train.

Damien Rice - Dogs - C+

Damien isn't that great of musician or vocalist, but he has some nice tracks and deserves to be noticed. This track in particular is nice. The thing I like is that he always gets into his music when he plays. He is quite overrated, but you can tell he really enjoys what he does, which means a lot to me personally.

I hate their pretend image and truthfully most of their music is crap now. However, this song is their only real stand out. I had high expectations of them until they were signed and just bombed. Anyway the video is fun.

The one on this forum with an elitist attitude is you, kiddo. Every time someone puts something out that you don't like, it is considered as crap. You also basically believe it is ok for you to write that Elbow's singer is poor, but when I say Damien Rice isn't great, which means he's alright, that's not ok and that I'm an elitist. You are the elitist, so don't accuse people of something that you fit the full description of. You're one of the most egotistical and ignorant members on this entire forum. If you can't take an opinion then why are you even on here? You're always starting problems with people, especially when it comes to music as you did with Sasha, Rafy and myself and then deleted the entire discussion to "clean the thread." Sasha and Rafy who are regulars in this thread both know I don't bash music or opinions, I just make my own points as does everyone else because that is the purpose of being here. That is to express yourself.
 
Honest Mistake - A

I'm in the same boat as you. I hate a lot of things surrounding them and have never been able to get into much of their other stuff, but this song has always been a real favorite of mine. They fall into that category of pop, emo, indie, etc. bands that got kind of popular over that one summer (was it '05?) that I saw a lot of promise in but never materialized into anything special, like Franz Ferdinand, The Killers, Kings of Leon, Modest Mouse, Secret Machines, Kasabian, etc. Loving listening to this song though, haven't heard it in a long time.

I'm going to let someone else rate West Indian Girl, but I'd like to note that I'm a bit of a fan myself. I actually ended up discovering WIG when someone labelled a track as being from R?yksopp and I was like, "wtf is this?" I ended up liking it though. How weird is that?

Also about those bands, I actually was really for the craze. I like a few of Franz's tracks like "Take Me Out" and Modest Mouse have a few quality tracks as well. I want to hear the new album. The rest however I'm not that interested in, what about you? I personally can't stand the Killers. Oh and I do believe it was '05, yeah.

You wouldn't believe how many indie fans were against the increase of interest by the media for that genre of music. The way I see it is you just have to remember that almost everyone will eventually sell out, but hope that your favorites don't change themselves or their music to deter your interest.

I won't lie, with a name like West Indian Girl, I thought the song would be crap. I like the mellow kind of rock and the high pitched vocals from the girl match pretty well with the other guy's vocals.

I hear ya' on West Indian Girl. When I first heard their name, I had the same reaction. The more I listened to them though, the more I found out they were legit.

I saw a hell of a lot of parallels in that to Muse's "Thoughts of a Dying Athiest." Are the bands related in any way?

Overall, I enjoyed the song, and it too was better than I had expected, because after watching the first few seconds of the video I was expecting something emo. Still, as good as this song was, I didn't like how the refrain was so soft. They really built up to it. In a way, it was like "Thoughts of a Dying Athiest" except without the powerful refrain.

I just changed the video in my post in response to M Two One's thread with the lightning video. The song, Lou Christie's "Lightning Strikes," is from early '66 and reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard Charts. It's got a very Frankie Vallie-ish feel.

Dude how weird is this, you post one of the songs I learned how to play the drums off of. My mom listened to this music a lot when I was a kid so I picked up some of it as time went on. I like the bassline a lot for such a simple song that gets you goin'. I never listened to much else of Christie's work though.

That's cool. You should check out "Touched" because that is their most famous track. I don't know how many damn commercials companies used this for it was rediculous. Crosby's music is definitely not for the religious seekers. lol
