Notice Regardless of what the gun nuts say

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

Fair enough. What I COULD do, however, is MY business, and not anyone else's. And sure as hell not the business of any politician.

I've carried a gun since I was 21. I carried one when I worked in security. I have a hard time believing you'd want to be unarmed after having been some of the places in Portland at 2 in the morning that I have.

It's MY choice not to be a victim. You do what you want.

Or maybe.....just maybe......I enjoy shooting as a form of recreational activity with other safe, like minded people, and I enjoy knowing that I am exercising my Constitutional Right to bear firearms, as I believe any safe, responsible American should.

If I want an adrenaline rush, I'll go join a 3-gun competition. Or make a trek to Knob Creek, Kentucky.

If I just want to be safe, I'll carry my Glock.

That's the great thing about America. For as long as it lasts.
I highly recommend locking up all your guns and giving someone else the key until the gout is under control.

You like this but don't want to do one thing to PREVENT those people from getting guns.

You're a fence rider who really has already chosen which side you're on.

You blow much, never listen.

You bet I would like to know what the hell is wrong with all this young kids having so much trouble they can not make it to adulthood.
Seems to be young white boys doing it too.
So what the hell is up with this?
We ought to put the best we have on the issue right fucking now!

People will discuss topics like this and vote according to their beliefs and conscience. I believe we all know that without having to say it.

None of that is true, nor does it have any basis in reality.

-The AR-15 is not used by the military.

-An AR-15 does not shoot any faster than a semi-automatic pistol of any caliber. Unless you want to now classify FINGERS as deadly weapons?

-Any rifle bullet can penetrate Level III ballistic vests because velocity defeats armor. It is not limited to the 5.56 Nato round. Any hunting rifle that is chambered in a rifle caliber can fire a FMJ (full metal jacket) bullet that is capable of penetrating ballistic vests.

-Assault is an action, not a weapon. As I already explained.

Thanks for avoiding answering my question and deflecting instead. Typical answer from your side. How many times have you had to use your gun for protection in the USA? Why do you need an automatic or semi automatic gun?

OK--you're going to have to help me out with how the existence of the prefatory clause means that an individual citizen doesn't have a right to own a gun.

Madison made it pretty clear in Federalist 46 that state militias would serve the role of opposing a federal army in the case of a tyrannical government, and that those would be composed of ordinary citizens who would be armed. Thus, I've always read that clause as providing the reason why the right to bear arms must not be infringed, which itself is in keeping with the purpose of the bill of rights as a whole--to protect the people from potential overreach of the government.

Now, if you believe that the whole purpose of the 2nd is no longer valid--as many do--then I'd imagine an amendment to repeal would be on the agenda. But that doesn't invalidate the amendment's original purpose or meaning, which is that citizens do, in fact, have a constitutional right to "own a killing machine" (within the parameters of existing SCOTUS-approved regulation/restriction).

@PtldPlatypus, pardon me if you mentioned this earlier. In addition, Alexander Hamilton wrote Federalist 29 which also has some bearing on the 2nd Amendment. Just an FYI.

Twice in 13 years. Once in uniform, and once outside of uniform.

I am 63 years old and have never needed or felt the need to have to use a gun. Maybe I hang out in better places than you have over the years. Why do you need an automatic or semi automatic rifle?

I don't like guns because every pussy that was too afraid to swing on me always wanted to shoot me.

I've literally had people threaten to and one supposedly came looking for me with his friend but I wasn't home thankfully.
All over me talking about his momma, I never could control my mouth.

Good for you. I didn't make enough to live in a nice part of town as a young man.

As I answered in my first post: we live in a country of Wants and Desires, not "needs and requirements". The sooner you get that through your head, the quicker you'll get your answer.

Do you have to justify to me why you "NEED" a 5,000 square foot house? A 650 hp car? A six or seven figure salary? Because I've never met one person who NEEDS any of those things.

Perhaps there was some truth about his momma and that obviously struck a cord.

HCP NEEDS a 650 hp car. It just slows to about a 300 hp car when you add the driver.

WHY DO YOU NEED AN AUTOMATIC OR SEMI AUTOMATIC GUN?????

Don't reply with another idiotic answer. If you can;t come up with a logical reason then just say so rather than change the subject to 5,000 square foot houses, 650hp cars or 6 or 7 figure salary. That's a moronic reply. Have you heard of a mass killing happening with a 6 or 7 figure salary? a 5,000 square foot house or a 650hp car?

Hey fellas, don't fuck with me or I'm going to land my 5,000 square foot house on you and I make 7 figures and can wipe out the whole neighborhood with my salary. lol

I don't know what you mean by "semi-automatic gun". As in, you want weapons to not have the ability to discharge and re-load? Or that one trigger pull means one round goes downrange? Or...?

I mean, there are people on the site here who've fired weapons I've never fired, but I've done my fair share, and I don't see how making a double-action vice single-action trigger pull makes things safer for the populace or not. I'm pretty sure (though I haven't done it) that there's a lengthy process to procure a weapon capable of automatic fire (one trigger hold makes rounds go downrange until out of ammo or the magazine empties). But magazines/etc don't make it safer or less safe for shooters unconfronted by others. In the Parkland case, the density of fire he was putting down didn't matter if he was firing an AK-47, AR-15, semi-auto Sig pistol or Glock, or ball-and-powder muzzle-loader (which I do know a bit about). Against unarmed personnel (especially kids--I'm not talking about meeting @riverman in a dark alley with his ninja skills) I'm frankly a bit relieved that only 17 people were killed before he decided to stop. That's less than one full magazine (or two in NY and CA) of rifle and exactly one pistol mag ("16 in the clip and one in the hole" - Nate Dogg)

"Assault" is an action, not a weapon. A weapon is incapable of action without the control of a person.

ALL guns are good for killing people. But according to @dviss1, Liberals don't want to ban guns.....

I guess if they look scary, then it's fine to ban them.

Ruger AR-556, bad......

But Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifles are okay.....

Get outta my face with that bullshit.

So atomic bombs should be legal? It takes a human to pull the trigger.

lol, bro I appreciate that, but I'm in pain.....not suicidal or homicidal.

I was yelling something fierce at the monitor last night during that game though.

When we lose, I frequently put a brick through my tv. The video store knows what happened as soon as they see me coming.

This is an issue of my personal concern...that any civilian would need 16 bullets in a clip for anything at all...a 6 shooter was enough to conquer the wild west..what's the purpose of having that much ammo loaded at any given time that's not combat?

So uh, build time machine and take Ar15 back in time and rule the world?

I've heard hunters who took many multiples of shots at a deer. Must have been crack shots.

Real hunters find such people disgusting.

First off, sensationalistic headline: "...gun nuts..." always gets clicks (no, getting clicks isn't necessarily a good thing). I digress:

Dillon roof was mentally ill. He went and fellowshipped with fellow Christians, and then shot them to death. One was 87 years old.

Now his FUCKING SISTER is taking weapons to school!!!
Who ever said he was a Christian to boot? Please provide proof.

As for his half-sister, is that really relevant? I mean, she's obviously stupid but is there any real proof that her weapon-packing is related to him? She didn't bring a gun, so how's that related to this thread? And don't act like I'm trying to defend either of them in any way.

Medical professionals have to report domestic abuse to women and children, I don't see any difference in reporting mental disorders.
Mental disorders don't necessarily lead to domestic abuse, violence, murder, etc. Sure, they could, but there's a fine line in between. Not saying I have the answers, but you can't just blur the two things into one.

I'm all for a change in HIPPA laws. I'm all for outlawing Private gun sales. We can't have private alcohol sales can we?
Actually, the vast majority of our states (about 2/3) now have private alcohol sales. Look it up.

Look, I agree that our country has a morality problem and a violence problem. It's such a complicated problem that I don't expect it to ever be resolved. Not a sexy conclusion, but realistic. Also, I'm not what you would call a gun guy. I don't own any and probably never will. I have no problem with discussing gun issues, but we do have to keep the constitution in mind. While "assault style" guns may be constitutional, maybe they shouldn't be. I haven't read my pocket constitution in a while, so maybe I should get on that. Regardless, I just don't think this is something that some emotional teenagers have any substantial knowledge about. I admire anyone who has a passion for wanting to preserve life, but the twitter vid in the OP has multiple contradictions. I also have no problem suggesting (and I'm not the first) that a lot of these teens on the national spotlight - esp those who go to Parkland HS - are subconsciously using the opportunity for 15 or more mins of fame. Not saying their original intentions are bad, but cameras and social media popularity can have that effect on people.

Go Blazers, love all of y'all

You gotta be kidding...

The people who shoot up schools aren't sick in the head?

Then why don't you do something about the mentally ill????

You don't want to take away their guns.

THAT'S THE PROBLEM.

Serious wuestion. Where are the mentally ill getting the guns from?
Are the purchasing? If so then we need more scrutinization on who can purchase.
I dont know for sure but something tells me they are not ourchasing but rather, taking borrowing or stealing them from someone else.
If this is the case, then i ask, how do you keep the guns from them? Without taking them from law abiding citizens who lock thier guns up and are safe with them?

Honest question. Because there is no way america will actually take he guns away from its citizens. That will cause a civil war. Mark my words.

Id rathher solve this withiut a civil war And taking away citizens rights to bare arms and defend ourselves against all things including a corrupt government.

Not fair. Six shooters conquer bow and arrows aNd muskets. But those are no longer todays threats.

Not asvocating for automatic weapons but what was good then is irrelevant now. Different worlds.
