Of all the potentially available pieces that have been discussed, it seems Robert Covington is the best possible fit for this role. NO clue what it would take to get him though.Going back into what else we're missing:
With Lebron/Kawhi/PG all in our path in the west, and Giannis/KD/Simmons/Butler in the east, a versatile wing defender seems to be a glaring weakness on our roster right now. For all their faults, Harkless and Aminu were two of our better defenders and we have effectively replaced them with Hood and Bazemore. Baze is good enough to battle guys like Harden, but the LA trio are just too big for him. Hood doesn't have the speed or strength to defend much. Little isn't ready yet.
This defender isn't available in FA anymore. And Gallo isn't the answer either.
Really wonder if CHI would part with Porter. Jerami Grant woulda been perfect. Coulda defended 2-4 well.
I'm so tired... It took me a good 20 minutes this morning to understand why you were bumping like every thread. heh.Bump

I really wish we had more guys making 6-12 mil to use in trades. RoCo is a good one.Of all the potentially available pieces that have been discussed, it seems Robert Covington is the best possible fit for this role. NO clue what it would take to get him though.
Baze/Skal/Trent for RoCo/Dieng or Baze/Zach for RoCo/Dieng both work. I assume both of those are seen in this forum as overpays on our part, but are they really?I really wish we had more guys making 6-12 mil to use in trades. RoCo is a good one.
I'm not including Zach in a deal for RoCo, the first one-- sure.Baze/Skal/Trent for RoCo/Dieng or Baze/Zach for RoCo/Dieng both work. I assume both of those are seen in this forum as overpays on our part, but are they really?
It's kind of disappointing when looking at trades because of this. We had a few good sized contracts for trades previously, in Harkless, leonard, Aminu. Now, it's basically over 20 or under 5.I really wish we had more guys making 6-12 mil to use in trades. RoCo is a good one.
Even re-signing Layman for a 1+1 around 5-7 mil/yr woulda been useful simply as a trade chip for the deadline. Not with a 1+1 I believe, could be wrong.Yes but doesn't Hood have a no-trade clause because of the type of Bird rights?

We need a superhero:

Hell no to trading Simons for RoCo. I truly think Hood is a better, albeit different, player than Covington and that we're all going to be surprised at how well Kent Bazemore fits in. I'm all for upgrading the roster but let's not Petro for Walter Davis or Jeramine for Dale Davis this thing up!
Did I miss where Livingston and Noah were signed? Here is somebody's top 8 left.
1. Kenneth Faried
He hasn’t adjusted to the offensive or defensive ways of modern bigs, but his physicality and interior presence is still effective in spot minutes. He revived his career a bit in Houston last year, scoring 13 points with eight rebounds in 24 minutes.
2. Thabo Sefolosha
Sefolosha is a good defensive guard who can fit into any rotation. He averaged a steal in 12 minutes last year, and added four points and three rebounds.
3. Cheick Diallo
Diallo is only 22 and showed promise with New Orleans. He averaged six points with four rebounds on 62 percent shooting last year. Take a chance on Cheick.
4. Nene
At 36, he’s nearing the end of his career, but he was still effective in very limited minutes with Houston last year. He’s a good pickup as a last-resort option for a competitive team.
5. Pau Gasol
Gasol’s season ended early after he had surgery on his foot to repair a stress fracture. And he’s 36 years old. But when healthy, he was still fine last season, averaging four points and four rebounds in 12 minutes.
6. Jonas Jerebko
Jerebko can shoot from deep, making 37 percent of his three attempts per game for the Warriors. Add him for bench depth.
7. Dante Cunningham
Cunningham’s offense isn’t stellar, but defensively, he’s pretty good. He also made 30-of-65 threes he took last year, so maybe he can take (and make) more elsewhere.
8. Nik Stauskas
I’ll never give up on someone who can shoot.

Honestly should’ve signed jerebko instead of Tolliver, assuming he gets the minimum.
That is correct. 1 year contracts have a no trade clause unless the player approves. Not with a 1+1 I believe, could be wrong.
