Glad you value my endorsement. If you said I was right it would be the cause of serious soul-searching.
Try being right sometime.

What have I done.
So I was wrong when I said you were right?Try being right sometime.
So Denny: which state of nature would you rather live in: Hobbesian or Lockean?
So I was wrong when I said you were right?
Nope. I pay one premium. I have one plan. My wife is also a beneficiary under the plan. We pay into a group. There are some customizations you can make to your plan. You are basically saying women, you need to pay higher premiums because having babies is expensive. You don't think there's something wrong with that?YOUR insurance and HERS should be different, accordingly. Duh.
Medicare isn't that good. Saying "medicare for everyone" sounds good, but look at the benefits and cost.
The free medicare (part A) only covers hospitalization and home care.
Medicare Part B covers the stuff we expect insurance to cover (dr. visits, tests, etc.) but has a premium starting at $134/mo per person. Plus you pay 20% of everything. I had a recent test done that would have cost me $1500 with Medicare. It cost me $30 co pay with Blue Shield.
None of that covers prescriptions.
Some plan.

When people say Medicare for all, they don't literally mean Medicare with no changes. It's simply a shorthand for a public option (Medicare you can buy into) or single-payer. It's an effective shorthand because Medicare is a type of socialized medicine that Americans have become familiar with and seen operate successfully for many years and therefore isn't frightening, the way specters of the old USSR are frightening to people.
Right now, Medicare functions alongside supplementary insurance. Presumably, a "Medicare for all" plan would fold that supplementary insurance in. Either at a (subsidized) cost (Medicare you buy) or else as a wholly subsidized system (single-payer). Both of these are likely to be more palatable to Americans than other forms of socialized medicine because the health care delivery would remain in the hands of private industry (no "government doctors")--it would simply be financed for everyone by taxpayers.
Medicare is medicare, not some nebulous thing you imagine that nobody else does.
I think it's repugnant to say that only women should be charged group rates for prenatal care, because only women can have babies. You're saying having babies should be free?
I am not following your logic. Having babies does cost someone.
EDIT: I add, your wife doesn't need to be covered for prostate related issues.
You are saying women should pay increased premiums because they are the only ones who can have babies. That's ridiculous. You're saying having babies should be free?

I accept your admission that you haven't followed the policy debate and don't know how these things work.
You are saying women should pay increased premiums because they are the only ones who can have babies. That's ridiculous.
The proposal is to expand medicare to cover more people.
Your utopia sounds pretty fucked up.They should pay less ($0) for prostate care or other men's health issues.
It's ridiculous that they do have to pay for that.

In 2009, David Frum, the former Bush administration speechwriter whose ideological apostasy was in its formative stages, met with conservative intellectuals to discuss the policy response to the great recession. Faced with evidence that only massive government action — a financial rescue coupled with fiscal stimulus — could have prevented a complete economic meltdown, one conservative made a startling confession: “Maybe it was a good thing we weren’t in power then — because our principles don’t allow us to respond to a crisis like this.”
The financial crisis is hardly the only issue for which conservative principles turn out to be incompatible with the practical demands of governance. (Climate change leaps to mind.) The collapse of the Republican plan to repeal and replace Obamacare is an especially vivid demonstration of the broader problem. The cohesion Republicans possessed in opposition disintegrated once they had power, because their ideology left them unable to pass legislation that was not cruel, horrific, and repugnant to their own constituents.
Insurance is overly expensive because it covers unnecessary things.
Everyone is super excited, taking the monorail in to the entrance. And then the gates open...
Welcome to DennyWorld! The most magical Place on Earth!
I heard I can get health insurance here!
Oh we specialize in health insurance! I just need to know some basic information from you to get you a quote.
I need to know your race.
Wait? What? Why do you need to know that???
Well, here at Denny World, we make sure you only buy insurance that is truly customized for you! You won't pay any more premium than you should based upon your profile. We don't think the government should control whatsoever how we price our insurance and we take every risk factor into account. Depending on race, we have statistics for your propensity of skin cancer, lung cancer, and of course diabetes as well. It's very important information! I don't want to charge you too much or too little. This way we make sure you just pay for the insurance you need based upon your risk factors.
Are you sure? That seems like you are doing racial profiling?
Well yes, we are! But our great forefather Denny has proclaimed that you should only be charged for what you need and are likely to use! So, don't worry you are going to be charged the right amount.
I also need to know your gender.
Wait? Really?
Well yes... really.. It's very important! You see here at DennyWorld we don't make men pay for women related treatment or women for male related treatment. I mean I know they had no control whatsoever over their gender, but it's only fair that women pay for their own care and men pay for their own care. That's true freedom!
Well, okay, I don't want to be accused of being a terrorist...
Don't worry. Women can get hysterectomies and then they get an insurance discount. Let's see, I also need to know your sexual orientation and the sexual orientation of all of your beneficiaries.
Ok.. this is getting ridiculous... why do you want to know this?
Oh it's very important! It helps us factor in whether you are likely to become pregnant. It's relevant for sexually transmitted diseases. Also, because of the stigma LGBT folks carry, it is relevant for potential risk factors such as substance abuse and mental health treatment.
I'd also like to know your religion...
Am I being punked?
Oh not at all! You see, certain religions believe in circumcision, others don't. Some religions are against birth control, others aren't. All of this is very important information. We need to make sure you are not charged more than you owe!
Well, what about the people that don't believe in birth control? Do they pay more than me?
Oh absolutely! You wouldn't want to be charged the wrong amount would you?
Nothing in recent years is like Health Care in drawing a stronger contrast between, doing the right thing, and the desire to be re elected. We need term limits if we are ever to get logical decision making. Without it, we will be governed by the best pandering money can buy.
I agree, we need to limit all politicians named Trump to a term of one month in office.
