It is time to replace Kevin Colabro for the Blazers. Kevin does not report what is happening effectively. Most importantly, he does not specify who fouls are called against. He does not explain fouls, omits who has done what, and thus fails in this important part of the job.

In the Spurs game, he kept referring to both of the players named Leonard by that name, when he should have been calling them Meyers and Kawhi, as both of those first names are well-known and distinguish the players.

During the game, he repeats the same statements while failing to describe the action. And he strays from basketball to talk about wrestling and other distractions.

Let's find a sports announcer to provide the essential game information.

If they put him with the right guy then he will be good. You gotta put him with someone who does the things he doesnt. Hurd just sounds like an idiot praising our opponents and babbling on. He makes Calabro look worse than he is, draws attention to the weaker points of Calabros work. If they can find a guy who does what Calabro doesnt, the humor and charisma, then it will hide those nuances, and draw out what Calabro does best. He's not comfortable with Hurd it's very clear. Too, like you said riverman, it's his first year with the blazers. I've seen what he can do, he just needs the right pairing.

I'd still prefer someone like Brent Barry, but man just about anyone would be better than Hurd. I thought he'd settle down and settle in after a month or two, but he's just as bad now as he was on opening night. If anything, he's worse. At least his stupid jokes and corny expressions used to be new. Now he's just repeating things that bombed the first time, and every time since.

Orlando Williams knows hoops Better than anyone on the CSN staff (not saying a lot I know). He's sort of a boring conservative christian type but I've always thought he had great insights into some of the nuances of the game.
