What were the Blazers thinking when they hired these two?

Do we have a Post of The Year?

Really sucks (One TV household) my wife hates watching the games now

Doesn't matter. Mrs. HCP likes him.

Kevin did it again. Failing to identify who the foul is assigned to, what was the foul, and how many fouls for that man was the story of the game. How can he get by with just saying, there was a foul?

Again there was a lot of wasted time about his own personal tastes and activities instead of describing the game. There was a lot to be said, especially about the young players gaining experience. The Blazers deserve a better play announcer. At least present someone who can report those factors that are not otherwise known, like fouls, substitutions, and explanations of contested action.

Yes you can tell Lawler is dated by the fact that his law is "first team to 100 wins". But that doesn't take away from the fact he's a solid announcer.

A Blazer fan hating on Lawler is akin to a Clipper fan hating on Mike Rice. At this point from a team broadcasting standpoint I'd definitely say Lawler is top 5 in the league (and that's without even thinking about who is out there), and Clipper basketball absolutely would not be the same without Lawler on the call.

Cola Bro should just talk about how awesome Meyers is at shooting brick 3's.

Agreed that Calabro misses some of that but for every example of something he missed, there are many examples of Mike & Mike just getting things dead wrong. How many times a game over the years did I have to put up with Barrett anticipating a call (always in the Blazers favor) that wasn't close to right. Then when the correct call was made by the refs or shown on TV, he was just add, "Rockets ball they say." " Lillard for a deep '3'....long 2 they say." Things like that happened over and over again for years to where it became a drinking game. And Rice couldn't get half the names in the league right.

Loved both of those guys because they were familiar but as for calling a good game, not at all IMO.

Turning off sound and listening to Wheels is not an option for me; I only get Blazers broadcast when it's on NBA TV and I can't pick up radio signal. I used to be able to but they don't have as strong a signal as they once did.

Don't they stream it somewhere online?

Only way to stream it that I know of is via the Blazers app, and that's location based. @crandc is out of luck down in Oakland.

Interesting, back in the day KEX or whatever would allow you to stream their broadcast free of charge and with no app or anything. I believe Wheels is on 102.3 now, if they have a website they may do the same thing.

NBA League Pass has a radio-only option for $9.99 a season. The quality of the stream, especially on wi-fi, is really good.

I bet if crandc had a man around, she wouldn't have this problem. He would be able to fix it! And then she could fix him dinner. HA!

I ain't gonna lie. I miss Mike and Mike now. Hurd flat out sucks IMHO. I can't stand his voice and he tries too hard to add "flavor" to the color commentating.

I HATE it when Calabro says:

"to the cup"...
Yeah, I was never much of a fan of M&M, and was gonna give the new guys a full season before forming an opinion. But I agree - they have made me miss M&M. Being that I wasn't a fan to begin with, that's pretty bad.

I miss them, but only in the sense that they should've stayed in the family. I think Mike and Mike should've been on the pre and post game show stuff. Actually, Rice should've stayed on the radio.

The guy lawler works with makes him look bad. One of the worst color guys in the league. Right up there with the Cleveland clown. I don't even know their names.

That was me. I think Calabro said something about a hammer during the dunk, and it just clicked for me.

Anyway, I find them acceptable, and certainly better than The Mikes. Much less whining about refs, off tangents, incorrect names. I'd rate them in the middle of the pack as far as League Pass announcers.

But yeah, I like the idea of Brent Barry or Chris Webber (hey, I can dream).
I have been using it. Hope it catches on.

Cleveland announcers definitely aren't great but I don't think they are the worst either. When I think of bad announcers I think of the Thunder and the Rockets. Cleveland has got to be bottom 5-8 though. I'm not too high on the Denver announcers either.

The Knicks and Nets have the solid national guys in Breen, and Fratello. I'm also a fan of Jerry Reynolds and Grant Napear in Sacramento.

Who would you say are your favorite Local announcers in the league?

Brent Barry would be my first choice. I'm not sure Webber would click with the city, he'd be better suited for a job in Sacramento where he played. Webber is definitely a great announcer in his own right though.

I'm one of the few that actually enjoy the lakers crew. They are about as neutral as a local crew can be.

I agree about Denver. They suck. So does Houston, specifically Drexler. Sean Elliott in SA is awful too.

Jazz crew isn't bad.

Best announcers I can think of? From what I remember one of the Florida teams had objective announcers that called things clearly, I think it might have been Miami's. The Lakers also do have very reasonable announcers, I was shocked when I came to that conclusion as well. Sacramento had great announcers too from what I can remember. Worst announcers? Oh my god, it's Celtics or Clippers, not even close, they are just god awful! Houston is top 5, but wow omg I think if I had to choose it would be the Clipper announcers. One of them is just so unbearable.

Mike Rice should have been put out to pasture, really probably at the same time as Roy sadly. As bad as Hurd is, he's just boring, Rice was simply unbearable. Believe it or not, I would sometimes find streams from the opposing team just so I didn't have to listen to that guy, a million times yuck on him.

Barrett was alright, he grew on me, and tbh I prefer him over Calabro so far. But I was one of the few cheering this change on simply to finally FINALLY dump Mike freaking Rice, barrett was unfortunate collateral damage that was, and still is, acceptable to me to dump Rice. I was hoping they would pair Calabro up with Holton, I like him a lot, and I think he would mix well with him. Hopefully they'll make another change with Hurd this year.

I watched a game a while back that was announced by the Lakers crew, and although it felt dirty somehow, I came away feeling like the Lakers TV announcers were very good, and as clear headed and unbiased as any I've seen. I liked them. It shocked me. Probably because their douchy fans are so fucking douchy, I imagined the same for the whole organization. Fuck the Lakers anyway. Forever.

Easy to be fair and impartial when your team is tanking though.
