ill take the agents word over anyones here.

*Sigh*

Even if the Jazz have given no "indications that they will match." If they are able to dump Boozer within the 7 days period, it's a lock that they will end up matching. Use your head.

utah has been trying since boozer opted in.....its not gonna happen

But, they don't really get into lux tax hell unless they keep Boozer past the deadline. They can match Millsap's offer now, and explore Boozer deals later on in the year.

Yes, that's true, good point. Of course, at that point they're locked in. If they can't find a deal, they take a bath. They may not have the risk tolerance for that.

They might have been trying to get value out of Boozer. If they are absolutely certain Millsap is their PF of the future, they can give Boozer to the Thunder for free.

why do you think the thunder want him?

Can we trade him back to Utah? Say for AK47 (just an example, not saying I want AK47) but how soon can we trade Millsap if we get him?

Do you guys really think Utah isn't going to match? Come on. After this season, they will have $52 million tied up in 4 guys. That's all of their cap room. There will have limited flexibility in making player moves. I say no doubt they match on Millsap, and they deal Boozer when they can. An average of $9 million per season is not that much for a starting PF - look around the league. I pray I'm wrong, but I have little doubt that I am. Utah has pretty deep pockets, and I'm sure they'll do whatever they can to keep Millsap. Like many teams with restricted FA's, they let the market determine the value of their player, then they match.

Hold off on getting excited, and hold off on a press conference. The only good news I see in this is they cause Utah to tie up some more money. And perhaps they unload Boozer for less than they would have gotten if they could do so on their own terms.

Yawn.

Re-sign LA and Roy, make them both happy, make the fans happy with this piece of news. Then accept that this offseason didn't work out as you planned, and that's okay. But don't hurt two cornerstones, two guys who absolutely want to be hear!

76. Can a free agent be signed and immediately traded?

Under no circumstances can a team sign and then trade another team's free agent.

Why the Blazers gave the offer to Millsap

You ain't going to catch no fish unless you put the line in the water...

True. But I don't fish just for the fun of it. I enjoy fishing, the catch, and the meal. I don't fish to catch and release.

I don't either, but you got to catch them first.

Not necessarily. You've never eaten a fish without catching it first, I guess? Try it some time.

...I get what you're saying. I just think it's a futile effort. It's like fishing in a lake you know if catch and release only, hoping to keep any fish you keep anyway, then you catch the fish with an officer from Department of Fish & Wildlife standing over your shoulder, forcing you to put the fish back.

You've found me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been waiting to years to tell you what a slimeball you are! So here it is...You are a slimeball. J/K.

I love the enthusiasm, I really do. But with the way Utah will be bagged if they don't match Millsap, there is no way they don't match.

It would be very shortsighted of Utah to not match this offer. They take a hit this year, but get their starting PF locked up for several seasons at a fraction (60%-ish) of what they've been paying Boozer all along.

If they resolve to take the one year hit, they're absolutely in a strong bargaining position. They can say take it or leave it. They can use Boozer's expiring contract (and ability to play well) at the trade deadline and get under the LT and not have to pay it.

Who would they trade Boozer to? If the Thunder don't want him, they'd be stuck trading him to the team with the most capspace (Portland). I suppose they could try and trade him for an injured player whose contract is covered by insurance, but they're still going to be stuck taking back a lot of salary.

Also, if they want Millsap to be their future PF (as they should), they will have a problem with minutes until February.

The only thing I'm suprised at is how low our offer was. We could have offered more.

Uh, why wouldn't the Thunder want Boozer? And why wouldn't they like to get in on this, not only get Boozer on the cheap, but block Portland from getting better?

And a problem with minutes? How so? The guy will wait patiently for Boozer to be dealt. It's not like the guy is going to start here. He's getting paid, playing on a playoff team either way in Portland or Utah. If Utah matches, he gets paid, waits for a few months, then becomes a starter. In Portland, who knows what his PT would be, but he'll get paid.

He can be traded to anyone over the cap for a ~$9M salary, saving Utah $6M in LT and salary. Beats a sharp stick in the eye.

That stood out to me, as well. I realize Portland doesn't want to totally grossly overpay the guy, but it makes you wonder if it's a sincere offer, or an offer to make fans seem like we're trying to make a move, yet low enough that we expect Utah to match, all the while Portland management says, "Oh, well, it looks like we tried, and it cost Utah extra cash along the way."

Well as we've seen with Brandon's contract debacle, fans' wishes don't seem to have much to do with these matters.

That's true.

I just thought that Jazz fans would be hollering for management to match and bitching at how management might be cheap. Instead most hope Jazz don't match.

Some pretty good posts, sounds like a knowledgable group of fans. I like the Blazer fans representing in that thread.

Hey guys,

Look at the bright side: If/when Utah matches the offer to PMS, it will essentially be like trading him for cap space!!!!!:unsure:

There seems to be a predominate thought on this board that the Jazz will match. But reading though the responses from Utah fans on the thread below, most don't want the Jazz to match.

I found it interesting . . .

they can't even spell "desert" right, I wouldn't put much stock in the opinions there ;) Besides, though you might come across a few intelligent posts at oregonlive, we all know the truth.
