We still had the rights to Detlef and Schenscher?
That's just plain stupid.

Yeaaaaah, boooooy!
Ed O.
I don't want to get my hopes up, but things are sounding good. If Paul becomes a Blazers, we won't be pushed around/out hustled in the Playoffs.
Crossing my fingers and toes.
If this actually finalizes, it's sort of Jermaine O'Neal in reverse, isn't it? We actually ADD a starting quality, young backup power forward.

Yup, minus the giving up anything part.
I would be absolutely thrilled if we got Millsap. I think people are really underestimating Millsap. He's the same age as Aldridge, produced nearly as well and is a good defender. Essentially the only thing differentiating him from Aldridge is that his size/athleticism probably means he doesn't have quite the upside.
He also can't create his own shot like Aldridge can. Millsap was ast'd on 65% of his pts, Aldridge 57%.
Aldridge is a much more complete offensive player. Millsap really thrived in Utah because Utah was #1 in pace factor in the NBA last year.
edit - Utah was #1 for playoff teams.
Although I agree with you, those numbers don't really help your argument. Those percentages are so close. We need a banger out of our backup PF, not a scorer. Thats why Milsap is going to be a great fit if for some reason Utah doesn't match. Too bad they will...
Millsap can get his own shot, but the Jazz P'n'R makes most of them assisted. Millsap has a great up and under move and has some fancy maneuvers to create space in the post. He also moves well off the ball, Rudy will love him.
Four years ago Paul Milsap would've been the best player on our team.
I don't know if I should laugh or cry.
Aldridge - 57%
Bosh - 53%
Dirk - 56%
Gasol - 57%
Amare - 57%
Millsap - 65%
There's obviously a noticeable difference here.

Brandon Roy says he feels there is a 50% chance he will remain a Trailblazer after this season
this came from Roy just days AFTER him saying on the radio that he felt there was only a 50/50 chance he signs an extension.

Strike-out Portland.
I continue hearing that a trade with the Bulls involving Kirk Hinrich is the most likely outcome of this whole mess.
I'd be severely disappointed if this whole thing was merely just a chess move to land a marginal upgrade in Kirk Hinrich.
More interestingly for Portland, Millsap tends to generate his offense near the hoop, while Aldridge is more of a high-post player. That suggests that a Aldridge/Millsap unit could be pretty complementary, lending further credence to the idea of an Oden/Aldridge/Millsap front court rotation.
I think adding Hinrich as our starting PG is better than adding Millsap as our backup PF. Just two seasons ago, Kirk had a 17 PER and was named second team All-NBA defense. No reason for him to not rejuvenate his career here.
I wonder how Oden and Millsap will play togeather? Will they get in each others way, clog the middle and hamper each others effectiveness? Or will they be an unstoppable duo gobbling up rebounds from every direction and pushing the other team out of the way.
