just announced on the BFT.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Yep, full max deal just like most people expected him to get. Great news!

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!

Woohoo!

I just tuned in, and they're not talking about it. Just said "verbal agreement."

Were the terms of the deal mentioned?

Canzano said on his breaking news thing that they had a verbal for the max. That's all I heard.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Sweet.

I don't know where Roy ranks talent wise among the elite in the NBA, but I think he is the perfect fit as the face of the franchise for the city of Portland.

Stay humble, classy and most of all hungry Brandon.

Can't believe this thread isn't 12 pages long already.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Oops, missed this thread. Well, as I said in the other one, a full max deal with no player options would seem like a good compromise. Wonder if there are any player options.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

This has nothing to do with this thread but I just realized Minstrel has a CALVIN AND HOBBES thing in his signature. Points for you sir, points for you.

Thank god - and with only 88 days to spare. I was getting nervous- NOT!

Top 7 player in the NBA...

I always get inexplicably nervous in October when they still haven't picked up rookie deal options - I get it into my brain that somehow Pritchard/Penn/Miller/Allen will totally forget they have options to pick up and we'll lose a player the next summer.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Hmmm. Sky not falling. Good.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Full max deal, eh? Was that so difficult?

Not a bad result for Roy having no leverage. :devilwink:

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

KP is spineless...caving to Roy when the org had all the leverage. Vulcan must have been on vacation.

Calvin & Hobbes may be the greatest artistic achievement in human history. It belongs in art museums.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Does this mean we can all be friends again? Group hug?

Oh wait, no Aldridge signing yet and we still have Outlaw and Blake on the roster.

Drat!

Man I grew up on Calvin and Hobbes. In fact I still have the very last C&H strip Bill Watterson ever did for sentimental purposes.

For some of us it certainly seemed to be.

What will we do with all those KP voodoo dolls now?

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Any player/team options?

Yes, there is a Vulcan Option where they can deem this contract as negative or positive to the bottom line of team profits as they deem necessary.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Top 7 player in the NBA...
I see this (usually "top-10") thrown around a lot, but I'm not convinced... Somewhat in order:

LeBron
Kobe
Wade
Garnett
Paul
---
Duncan
Howard
Yao (when healthy)
Nowitzki
Parker
Gasol
Bosh
DWilliams
Ginobili
Billups
Pierce
Nash
Shaq
Carmelo

I would say the top-5 are pretty well established, but there are at least 10 in that next group that are arguably all on Roy's level. Roy probably gets a "potential" edge when factoring in youth, but it's a stretch to say that he's undoubtedly at the top of that list already. Top-20 is a safe assertion... But once you get down to that low of a cutoff, you're talking basically best player on the team status.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Get KG out of there, he hasn't even been close to Top 5 for quite some time

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Great news. We can all breath a collective sigh of relief.

Says that guy with Felix Gaeta as his avatar.

Having anything representing BSG makes you infinitely more awesomer in my opinion.

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

I'd say top five is certainly LBJ, Kobe, Wade, Paul and Howard (probably in that order too).

After that, you have a lot of guys who have been all-time greats (Duncan, KG) but are on their last legs. Some guys like Billups are having career seasons, and Parker is probably still underrated for all of the things he does for the Spurs. Add that together and seeing as Roy was 2nd-team All-NBA, I have no doubt calling him a top-10 player. I believe by offensive metrics he was in the top 7 or 8 for sure. Roy may not be a "lockdown" defender, but neither are Nowitzki, Anthony or a bunch of offensive minded players on that list either.

Roy is somewhere between 6-10 just about any way that you want to slice it, whether with numbers or just by how good he is and how much he impacts this team. I'll put those five guys above him, but not anyone else with any certainty. Outside of those five, there is no one that you'd be like "yeah let's trade Roy for him" without hesitation. He's that good.

This is essentially what I would have said! So, "+1" :)

Re: Roy agrees to terms with Blazers

Fantastic news! He's here for the long haul... Drexleresque I might say.
