Hi.
I would first like to preface by saying that I am not calling any of you who post or visit this forum racist. I am interested in the perception that a racist is more likely to be a Republican than a Democrat. Do you find this to be inaccurate?

There have been a lot of links, graphs and postings lately which I find inflammatory and only reflect the views of a subsection of people and they often get in the way of an honest discussion, so I am not posting those here.

Personally, I really don't ever hear any racist comments in real life, so I have almost no firsthand knowledge to go on. Would any of you care to share your views on racism in America? Is that where some of the hatred of Obama comes from? What are the political leanings of anyone you know who is racist?
 
calling somebody racist is bringing up race, which is racist, you racist
 
I've seen many, and I mean many, on Twitter drop the n-bomb but later claim they aren't racist.

I challenge you to find any KKK member in the history of that group who wasn't a Republican.

I tried to make the original post in a non inflammatory way so as to invite an open discussion. Please help that happen, don't hinder it.

Most republicans dont care obama is black so much as his poor performance in office, disagreement with his philosophy for america, political inexperience before office and his seemingly mysterious origins (we know shockingly little about him).

The racists are outliers. It is my contention that more people voted for him because he was black than voted against him.

Non-inflammatory isn't a word. Flammatory is.

A civil war was fought against the fascist South over this issue, so it's flammatory.. Racists are conservatives. Conservatives are mostly Republicans nowadays.

There are racists in both parties.

However, some of the most out-front and blatant racists are Democrats. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton are anti-Semitic and have been allowed to skate on this because they are black and Democrats.

As well, many of the black Democrats are constantly allowed to paint white people and white republicans especially as presumed racists. That is a kind of racism. "Because you are a different color skin than me, and because we disagree about the role of government, I assume you to be a racist."

Well look at the nationality of a majority white society in Oregon. Then see how the the majority population being democrat. So I don't believe the political party has as much to do with racism. I think the area you are raised is the biggest influence as being racist.

I actually have a few liberal friends that are really racist. China is a completely left wing society and they were extremely racist society. In Japan; they are considered a very liberal society; but racist. It happens everywhere and on any political view.
 
How many of your examples are modern day democrats OR democrats who would actually be called one today?

I'm asking that intellectually, because it's weird how evolving both parties are. Whats considered a Republican now wouldn't be 25 years ago, and same with Democrats, etc.

Plus, while not exactly a great organization, the KKK in the times you are referring to (pre 1940's) was mostly an Anti-Catholic group, and not a racism group.

Look no further than the 2008 Democrat primaries. Obama won ~97% of the black population vote over Clinton in the southern states.

Why was this question directed at Republicans?

racism isn't about voting for a person who is of your race, but thinking that your race is intrinsically better.

Look at it this way, if voting for your own race was racism (as thats what you seem to be implying), you seem to be suggesting that 60 (? 61?) % of the white people in the country (especially white men) are racist.

And historically, it's not black people that had large groups of their people that have racist tendencies, nor were they ever in charge of the government/state government and could enlist racist laws or rules.

Black panthers are liberal and extremely racist. I can go on and on. Russia was a completely liberal society and they had ethic cleansing in their country.

In England; they are mainly liberal and have huge race issues against the Pakistan and Indian population. Israel is an extremely liberal society that has huge race issues.

What is it you want to know? Before becoming President, Obama was in public office (and thus watched by the media) longer than Romney, Bush, or Reagan.
 
Apparently if you're a liberal, it isn't racist if you're being racist towards white people.

Fez asked for "I challenge you to find any KKK member in the history of that group who wasn't a Republican" and that's what I gave him. That statement by Fez shows how little he understands how political parties have changed over the years or even how racist Portland and Oregon were at times. Hell, until the early 90's the Portland Police were still tossing dead opossums in front of black owned businesses.

Mostly an Anti-Catholic group?!? So those were Catholics they were hanging? The KKK has always been about race first.

Are you REALLY trying to claim that race was NOT a huge issue for the black vote in the 2008 primaries? REALLY?
