I've been there 5-6 times, love it. Might actually go there for a group dinner on Saturday with friends but not sure what their plans are.

Doh . . . you only mention it in the OP.

There are some restaurants in the NW (Lucy's Table, Andinas ect)

Chinese generic but good, IMO, PF Changs

As sushi? Or in a dish? I know I've seen Mirugai at one of the better sushi spots in SD, so I'm sure you can get it in LA. I've never had it in a dish though. Actually, I've never ordered Mirugai either

Chinese have a steamed version I had many times as a kid. Sliced thin and steamed served with a soy-type dipping sauce. really bomb. The Geoducks are from the NW so the chefs in the region are probably more skilled at handling it. I've had it in sushi as well before and you can get it down here as well.

And now I'll ignore you're chinese food recommendations from now on. :MARIS61:

Spicy World in Beaverton. Looks like a dumb chain but it really the most authentic (and spicy!) Chinese food I've ever had.

Powell's Seafood is also a pretty good spot. That seems to be my family's go to spot for non dim sum Chinese.

There's a Chinese Buffet on 82nd ave that's in the old Organ Grinder Pizza place that's all you can eat. I've never eaten there but how bad can it be?

hey, how is Ox restaurant? Going to PDX next weekend, thinking about that....

any other recos on Chinese? Taking relatives out for lunch. The usual standby is Thien Hong on Sandy for their pepper salted squid, etc. Anything better? Wong's King is around there too...but i've been to it when it was in beaverton and it was just meh.

Thai is the new Chinese food. Much better as well.

Wong's King is the best chinese I've ever had.

My new favorite spot is Mextiza on the corner of Killingsworth and Detroit in the NoPo.

Bomb dishes, everything is top notch and pretty cheap for the quality of the meal. Just wish they'd expand their menu a little bit.

Ox is the bomb. Further and I were talking about it a few weeks ago. It's pretty bomb - I've been several times. He also recommended Firehouse on NE Dekum, so I have that on my list of places to check out.

porkchopexpress mentioned Ocean City. Yes, Ocean City is the bomb. And as the saying goes, the best Chinese restaurants are loaded with Chinese people. Ocean City is always PACKED with Chinese people. And I mean packed. Dim sum there is crazy busy, and any time I've gone in, they've had a good crowd.

What he said on both counts. Ox has a great atmosphere and they cook their meat all over wood oven you can see.

I hear very good things about Firehouse; we had their chefs at the Plate to Pitchfork and all of our food was amazing, but not on the menu at Firehouse.

Haha, yeah. Whenever I go, it seems like my dad is the only white person there. My sister is getting married in a few weeks and we have the whole restaurant reserved for a banquet. I'm soooooooooo pumped for that dinner!

In fact, now that we're talking Ocean City, I think I'm going to have to go in there on Saturday. My parents always note how much better service they get if my wife and I are with them (well, really my wife, I just happen to be there, too). My wife won't be with me, so I'll be curious if service is less than usual.

Haha. Yeah, I've never gone alone. Its usually with my mom, who I think has a cousin who works there (or a family friend who we call cousin). My family used to own a one of the bigger restaurants in chinatown, so we seem to have family/friends that work in most of the Chinese restaurants around town. Too bad I have no clue who they are (or more importantly, they have no clue who i am), which is why I have to go with my mom.

You have to be borderline rude at these chinese restaurants. Yell for servers, don't say thank you, don't ask questions, and don't take too long etc if you want to be served.

Yeah, my ex was part-Chinese. Her grandfather was 100% Chinese, and he'd owned a Chinese restaurant in town, so he knew everybody. We'd always get the best service and food at all the restaurants. He always knew where to go. He was rad and connected. Sadly, my ex was neither of these things.

Burgerville had buy one get one free bacon burgers yesterday. Gluten free buns are $1 extra.

Totally not huate cuisine, but I just had some of the best Chinese food I've ever eaten the other day. There's a food-cart pod that just opened up at NE 52nd and Sandy last year and this cart, "Chen's Express" was fantastic. Everything is super fresh, great flavor, really good prices.
