Restaurant recommendation thread

Food carts have some of the best food around, but it's getting to be the time of year I need some place warm and comfy to sit.

Anyone have any good recommendations for a restaurant that is delicious, kid-friendly. It can be loud and a little crazy. I have the kids to myself for the next two days and we're going to be out and about having some fun, so I'm planning on having dinner out with them at least one night. My image was that of one of the old Sunshine Pizzas..... but those are no longer around.

Laurelwood Brewery on Sandy Blvd. seems pretty kid friendly and the food and beer are good.

Yeah, no. I knew someone would suggest Laurelwood. I almost put to not suggest that place. That place is rampant with crazy kids, and it's a little to kid-friendly, so parents with their friends taking advantage of getting inebriated and neglecting their children. I appreciate the response, I really do.

But Laurelwood is the one place I can't go.

I just fill up a growler there once in awhile. I don't go there myself for the reasons you mention (and no kids myself) but you did ask for, "loud and little crazy." First thing that popped in my head.

I hear ya. I appreciated a response. I should've made it clear that I wasn't looking for mind-numbing insanity. They do have good beer and food, the kids there make the dining experience brutal. After I mentioned the old Sunshine Pizzas, I did find that a new pizza place took over the one in Crackamas, so if I can't think of something else, I might give that a whirl.

Anybody ever eat Lebanese food? I think I'm gonna try this little place on Hawthorne tomorrow

Bombay Cricket Club on 20th & Hawthorne is off the hook! So is The Fish and Chip Shop on Killingsworth right next to I-5!

Our fave, and one of my favorite places in town, is Nicholas Restaurant on SE Grand. Fantastic, and quite affordable too.

Funny aside: When our kids were little, they had a hard time saying "Lebanese restaurant" so one of them accidentally called it the "Lesbian restaurant." So now when we want to go there, we always say, "Let's go for lesbian food."

That's a funny story.

You get a lot of food for your money here, and it's good. My roommate and I used to go and eat there because we'd have so much food leftover, we'd have a second meal later. It can get crowded if you hit at the typical busy times, so you may have to wait to sit.

I thought that was at Sassy's.

Evoe at Pastaworks? Andrew Knowlton from Bon Apetit is in town for feast and ate there today.

When my oldest was 3, she loved to go to Fuddruckers. One time we asked her where she wanted to go to dinner, and she said "Fuckers!"

We still call it Fuddrucker's.

Evoe is great. Funky seating though. I'm a big dude with a bad back. Not the most comfortable arrangement. Think kitchen cutting block type tables with odd, tall stools. Small, and no reservations, so you may wait quite some time to eat. But the food is certainly Portland-esqe and amazing. Generally, they're fairly small dishes, but it does give you the opportunity to try a lot of items on the menu. Everything on the menu pretty much changes daily. If you get the window seat, it's super-rad to watch the random people of Hawthorne walk by. Depending where you're sitting, you may be sharing your table/space with strangers, which can be good/fun and bad. But again, the food is amazing. I've tried many things, even things that I wouldn't usually like given the ingredients, and it's amazing.

Had Toji's Korean BBQ last night. Always super bomb diggity, no doubt.

Racion any good? Spanish/Basque tapas...might hit it up.

All right!!!

I went to a good Lebanese restaurant in San Francisco.

Nope, Eastoff, it really was a good Lebanese restaurant, called Mezes. I had pita with spreads, lamb kabobs, pilaf, vegetables, baklava. Interestingly they serve alcohol, although I drank tea. I know the owners are Muslim, so either they are non-observant, or they figure "business is business" (drinks are a big portion of profits for restaurants).

Crandc, are YOU Lebanese?
