Which idea do you like best? Do you have your own?

Personally, I like the idea of having all 30 teams finish a shortened season (72 or 76 games) followed by some sort of play in tournament. Seems like the most fair idea that’s been thrown out there. Jumping straight into the playoffs or a play in tournament seems like a bad idea. Guys can only get in game shape by playing actual games. Having them get into shape in a playoff atmosphere just seems like injuries and bad basketball waiting to happen. A shortened end of the season can act as a sort of preseason.

Either play out the full regular season schedule or go to a four team play-in for the eighth spot. Given the 3 1/2 game lead that Memphis has, coupled with them having a very difficult remaining schedule, anything else would do a disservice to the teams still in contention. The Grizzlies shouldn’t get rewarded for having one of the easiest schedules through the first 3/4 of the season. My preference would be the play-in tournament. Do that in Vegas the week before the playoffs start for the West and Orlando for the East. The shortened format you suggested would allow the Grizzlies to avoid one head-2-head game against the Blazers and magnifies the advantage of their 3 1/2 game lead.

Don't even finish the season. Just go straight to the tournament and do best of 5.

There is plenty of time to finish season and playoffs with a delayed 20/21 season to start Dec/Jan
I'm not taking about any playoffs though. I'm talking about a 30 team tournament. If you want to go ahead and just do things the same ol fashioned way might as well just jump to the WCF & ECF. Lakers vs Clippers/ Bucks vs 76ers.

The decision has been made to finish the season, absent changes in the course of the pandemic. The question is how best to play it.

The way I see it, 16 games of regular season could be played in 4 weeks, which would take to the end of August. The playoffs can be done in 6 weeks. That takes til mid-Oct. A month off and start training camp the first of Dec., with opening night of the 2020-21 season on Christmas.

If that's the case I hope they can at least go back to a best of 5 first round. Probably not going to happen though.

Christmas opening night is probably for sure definitely happening and it’s going to be amazing. Only a month off is gonna suck for whoever wins the championship, but I think that’s a trade off anyone would take.

Why does Philly get an automatic ECF? Raptors should get it before they. I say finish the complete season and do full playoffs.

It’s such a mistake. The only bet I’d take on this is the over on How Many Players End Up Infected

Maybe, but it’s their risk to take. Their careers are short so giving up a season can be a big chunk of a career. The league is doing everything it can to keep risk as minimal as possible, and it’s not as though it’s zero if they stay home and don’t play. The players are young so their risk of serious illness is low. I think the league should look at keeping older coaches away if at all possible.

Think they are serious about a 30 team playoff? I guess they would look at it similar to March Madness Tourney, to generate the TV revenue?

I posted this another place, but here's my idea:
In each conference...
7 vs. 10
8 vs. 9

Highest winning seed gets seed #7
Lowest winning seed gets seed #8

short of hiding under the covers and never going outside and coming into contact with other humans, there’s nowhere these players, coaches, etc will be safer than the environment the NBA will provide them. But this thread isn’t about that.

If we’re gonna do it, then go wild: no more regular season games, do top 16 records regardless of conference in a single big tourney, with a sixteen team single elimination tourney to determine 15th and 16th seed. Each round best of seven, every other day, two days off between rounds.

I think the NBA will have to try something different sooner or later and this night be the perfect time to try something new. March madness type tourney? Sounds good to me! Although I do prefer a best of 3 or 5 situation.

Asterisk the season like the lockdown and just prep for next season. Too many people will be focused on other things this summer i think anyhow.

Best of three, with a bottom 15 and top 15 tourney, the winner of the bottom 15 getting the #1 pick and The chance to play a single game “cage match” to win the championship trophy off the winner of the top 15 tournament.

I think one problem with that is, it's unfair to Dallas, who has a sizeable lead, and unfair in the east, where 9 and 10 are a decent ways back. It seems like it's only needed for 8,9,10,11 in the west, who are all close to eachother.

Yeah, the NBA has always been a marketing machine so for them to bring sizzle wouldn’t be surprising.

Posters here are coming up with ideas that make the most sense in rooting for a fans team and are fun to follow.

The league and players are returning for money.

The reason they want a normal regular season for all teams is they can then still get all the local and national TV revenue that have signed contracts based on games played.

The most logical solution would be leaving all the eastern teams outside the top 8 home and having a play in tournament for the final spot in the west. But that doesn’t take into account the revenue teams would lose by not fulfilling their 70 (or whatever the minimum is) games. So the next most logical solution imo is 72 or 76 games + a play in tournament.

"Pick a scenario for the return-to-play plan, and someone has surely heard it already. Bringing back all 30 teams and resuming the regular season is an option. So is bringing back something like 20 teams and having an expanded playoff of sorts, a notion that essentially mirrors what the NHL is talking about these days. A condensed playoff has also been discussed."

This. We get in the playoffs with a healthy Nurk, hell yeah.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was at least 1 player infected. It will make other spots organizations think twice.
Here's the thing......don't you think a bunch of players/staff already had it this season?

The season will be resumed, probably at Disney World. The NBA and Disney are finalizing how much the NBA will pay Disney to do it. The regular season will finish because teams have to play a minimum 70 games in a season according to the CBA. Not to mention the NBA wants to make money. The season will be played out within a 4 week period followed by the playoffs.
