- Seed the Playoffs 1-16.
- The top 13 teams are locked in (13 has a 7 game lead over 14). They play 6 games amongst themselves for seeding purposes.
- 14-20 play 6 games amongst each other for playoff positioning.

Here is the current league standings 14th-20th (number determined based off 14th).
14.
Memphis Grizzlies --
15. Brooklyn Nets 1.5 GB
16. Orlando Magic 2.0 GB
----------------------------------------
17. Portland Trail Blazers 3.5 GB
18. New Orleans Pelicans 3.5 GB
19. Memphis Grizzlies 3.5 GB
20. San Antonio Spurs 4.0 GB

The should alter the standings placement for these final 6 games as follows (number determined based off 14th)
14. Memphis Grizzlies --
15. Brooklyn Nets 1.0 GB
16. Orlando Magic 1.0 GB
----------------------------------------
17. Portland Trail Blazers 2.0 GB
18. New Orleans Pelicans 2.0 GB
19. Memphis Grizzlies 2.0 GB
20. San Antonio Spurs 2.0 GB

Then all teams play each other.

The tiebreaker could be based on:

- Who won H2H in their most recent game (of the 6)
- Total H2H
- Standings Placement going into the final 6 games
- A tiebreaker game?

You could also make the case to have a 16 v 17 playin.

This is the best format because:
- Teams that still have a chance to make a postseason run can still make the playoffs.
- Teams that have a lead for one of the final spots still get a similar lead (ex. instead of being ahead 3.5 games with 16 left, Memphis is ahead 2 games with 6 left).
- Every game means something since it's among a bunch of teams gearing for that final spot.
- The two eastern conference teams have to earn their way in, which makes sense if the seeding is 1-16.
- This would be the perfect time to try a 1-16 seeded playoffs.
- Teams reach 70 games to fulfill contracts.
- 6 games is a good warmup for all postseason teams.

If you rearranged the standings for the top 13 it could look something like this:

1. Milwaukee Bucks --
2. Los Angeles Lakers 2.0 GB
3. Toronto Raptors 4.0 GB
4. Los Angeles Clippers 5.0 GB
5. Boston Celtics 6.0 GB
6. Denver Nuggets 6.0 GB
7. Utah Jazz 7.0 GB

8. Miami Heat 7.0 GB
9. Oklahoma City Thunder 8.0 GB
10. Houston Rockets 8.0 GB

11. Indiana Pacers 9.0 GB
12. Philadelphia 76ers 9.0 GB
13. Dallas Mavericks 9.0 GB

I like the idea of the "group stage":

This would definitely create some drama:
One concern raised by team executives is the possibility of a “group of death”—a term used by soccer fans to describe groups that are far stronger than others, making it unfair for the top contenders. For example, if groups are randomly drawn, there is an unlikely-but-possible scenario that the Bucks could end up in a group with the Celtics, Rockets, Mavericks, and Pelicans—arguably the four best teams in Tiers 2 through 5. As an alternative to having groups randomly selected, multiple league sources say the league has considered allowing Tier 1 teams—the Bucks, Lakers, Raptors, Clippers—to draft their own groups. Now that would make for some drama during a selection show.

The writer suggests Eastern Teams wouldn't like it, understandably, but maybe we could throw them a bone by (a) excluding the 5 Western "tier 5" teams from the lottery (obviously) and (b) perhaps making the lottery chances more even, so, say, the Wizards get a better-than-usual shot at moving up.

That's very intriguing.

"If we come back and they're just like, 'We're adding a few games to finish the regular season,' and they're throwing us out there for meaningless games and we don't have a true opportunity to get into the playoffs, I'm going to be with my team because I'm a part of the team. But I'm not going to be participating. I'm telling you that right now. And you can put that [expletive] in there," Lillard told Yahoo Sports on Tuesday morning via phone.

"If we come back and I don't have an opportunity to make the playoffs, I will show up to work, I'll be at practice and I'll be with my team. I'm going to do all that [expletive] and then I'm going to be sitting right on that bench during the games," Lillard told Yahoo Sports. "If they come back and say it's something like a tournament, play-in style, between the No. 7 and No. 12 seeds, if we're playing for playoff spots, then I think that's perfect."

Takeaways:
1. Stupid headline.
2. Dame has been doing two workouts a day at the PF since being allowed to return.

He's probably going to get heat for this, but it's basically what the Warriors have already said. They've basically said their season's over.
Do you think if GS is in it to fill out, with no chance at the offs, Curry Green will play?

Honestly, the NBA shouldn't finish the regular season, because there's no incentive commiserate to the risks for teams on the outside looking in. Let those teams stay home.

Players lose lots of money if 70 games not played.

I don't think "less is more". For fuck's sake, you've LITERALLY got a captive audience! We'll watch any old shit!

It wouldn't surprise me if at least one player gets infected though. Then what?

It wouldn't surprise me that, if the league doesn't continue the season, at least one player gets infected. Then what?

if the NBA 'resumes with just the 16 playoff teams....then....the 14 teams left out should have close to equal odds in the lottery. Entertainment for everybody

Silver does have a really tough decision to make. Whatever he and the NBA decide, there are obviously going to be some pissed off people that disagree. Whether that be players, staff, fans, or general public, he is pretty screwed here.

I think the play-in tournament is the best route to go. I can't see making the teams that are already eliminated or who have no realistic shot at making the playoffs come back and play out the rest of the regular season in a somewhat risky environment. OTOH, I can't see handing the Grizzlies & Magic the 8th seeds just because they happened to hold that spot when the league went into shutdown. If he just goes with the existing top 16 teams, I'm going to be pissed off. I get that some fans are going to be pissed no matter what he does, but I think he should err on the side of generating the most fan interest and giving the most teams a shot at making the playoffs.

We were 10 games behind Dallas, there is no way we could have caught them. It's unfair to make the Mavs play in a wild card sorta thing. And the 8 teams in the east are pretty set in stone as is. Washington is 5.5 games behind #8.

So Memphis was the only one really in question when the league shut down, and fighting them for that spot were: POR/SAC/NOP/SAS all sitting within 4 games behind #8.

If we just do a wild-card tourney, I think it would really satisfy everybody. Maybe a round robin with the four teams, and winner facing MEM for the 8th spot. It would be pretty straight forward with 13 games total, which would take about a week max. And each of these teams would have to play 3 games + 1 if they have the best record. Adding 4 games for the 8th seed prior to the real playoffs would be fine. The other 15 teams would get byes.
