OT RIP Evoca TV

I know it's a business, but this deal has been extremely short-sighted and the organization is losing money because of how many people watch illegal streams because they have no other viable option. I would hope views would be up going from a tanking season to a hot start, views have been up for me too (gotten pretty far). It is NOT a smart business decision to fall out of touch with your diehard fans to attract passive fans who aren't from Portland. Those aren't the fans that'll buy merch and tickets, or that'll talk to all their friends about the game, or drive engagement (and the eyeballs this orginzation is so desperate for) on social media. Instead, the organization gives these fans the impression that they don't care, and that is a bad long-term business decision all because they didn't negotiate strongly enough with a regional sports network.

That is ridiculous, because regional sports networks are trending away from the pay TV bundle that is driving these views, and the organization certainly doesn't need an RSN to distribute it's own in-house product on a subscription-based model. As I said, this entire thing has been short-sighted.
You lost me at the team is losing money because of this tv deal.

I agree. You can get Root Sports on FuboTV with their cheapest package that's only $70 a month. That's only about $5 a game. People spend more than that on a coffee.

Or just go half on it with a buddy then stop the service when the season ends

More fans would be able to watch legally if they negotiated better. You're the one that said views = money.

If you don't what "long-term" means, then oh well. Blockbusters made money in 2005. Better to be ahead of the curve than behind it, and the traditional business model isn't always the best.

I don't think anyone said "fuck blazers broadcasting".

More like fuck Blazer management who signs these deals that eff over the local fans and make it easier for people outside the market to watch Blazer games than it is for local fans.
Yeah, it's not personal with Blazers broadcasting. Don't know why anyone would take it as such.

Youtube Channel Memberships would do the job. Could livestream it on YouTube and only members who pay monthly to the Blazers channel would be able to see it.
I'd go for this for sure. Not exactly sure how much i would save but i would save a bit.

I pay $260 a month for Comcast so I get all the games. But I watch other NBA and NFL games on streaming sites

Part of the frustration lies with the league on the blackouts and their antiquated way to doing things. Last time I checked on League Pass I get blacked out on all three Texas teams, SA I understand being about 2 hours away, but Houston is a 5 hour drive and Dallas a 7 hour drive, why in the world am I being blacked out of those last two? I get the blackouts to watch the local broadcasts of games, but I can't even get Houston or Dallas games if I wanted to legally on any of the cable packages. That's extremely frustrating and is the same with MLBtv that I get in for baseball. Add to it that the NBA doesn't want each team going off and doing their own rouge internet streams because they are pushing the League Pass model. It will be interesting to see how much longer they hold onto this old way of doing things and finally embrace the new. It really is a trip that I can be 2,000 miles away and can watch the team for easier and cheaper than someone living a few blocks from the Rose Garden.

Currently in Bend, I am blacked out on league pass from not only Blazer games and TNT/ESPN games, but also Kings and Warriors games. It's because the local cable company offers a package that can broadcast the channels where those teams play. And that package was $125+ per month last I checked.

I don't think it's the league that is entirely driving the blackout rules, but also the cable companies and networks.

Seems like simple economics to me. Demand is going to be much higher closer in.

But, the Blazers aren't meeting that demand and are losing out on a lot of money. It would be a win/win to have the games more openly available.

Wouldn't it be in Roots best interest to have their network on the most services they can?

For $5 a month per person I would be willing to show what is happening during the game by interpretive dance.
Sign me up!!
Wait, will you have constant repetitive replays, interrupting live play?
I only need to see each interpretive dance once.
I would hate to see a replay of an interpretive dance when I know that the live interpretive dance is going on in the background.
I pay attention!

You never know? You might need to see it twice?

I would do replays using shadow puppets. Think of it like a second camera angle.

if you didn't care, you'd just let it go and subscribe to a service that carries the game though right?
In my case I use to be able to watch the Blazers on Hulu, I like Hulu and was disappointed when they went to Root since Hulu doesn't carry it. I did add Evoca since it was only $30 a month just to watch Blazer games but now I'll have no options without switching my preferred service. I won't do that because Hulu has everything I want at a reasonable price so the bottom line for me is no more Blazer games this year. Makes me long for the days when I could just listen to the Shonse on the radio. Those were the days!

It is definitely bullshit that I can watch every Blazer game living in LA, (for less than $100/yr) and you local guys get blacked out from NBA league pass.

Just find a stream and you're good to go. You shouldn't have to switch from your preferred provider to watch Blazer games.

But you have to live in LA so that’s probably worse.
