We could do this all night. Tougher in Vancouver, oh well....more people can see it NOW that it's on ROOT, than before. Its a fact. Can't argue it.

MORE VIEWERS IS GOOD REGARDLESS OF HOW THEY CAN WATCH. MORE VIEWERSHIP MEANS YOU CAN CHARGE MORE FOR ADVERTISING. The whole thing is pretty simple.

That more people CAN see it, is not the issue. Are people in Seattle lining up to watch Blazer games because they can? The bigger issue is to die-hard Blazer fan that don't have as many options, especially if you die another day every time you have to deal with Comcrap, and if they do have Root in Vancouver, it is more difficult than Portland. The Blazers are second to the Kraken when they play.....not exactly a Blazer's first situation.

Just find a stream and you're good to go. You shouldn't have to switch from your preferred provider to watch Blazer games.

I guess I'll have to ask my teenage daughter show me how to do that LOL!

Dude, there are MORE viewers than before. Thats kinda’ the end of the conversation to be honest. MORE viewers is good.

Personally, and no offense, but I think it’s maximizing viewership.

Except for the fact that Root puts half the Blazer games on their version of The Ocho.

Got any ratings from Root and the other providers?

Oh I forgot you can’t see the game on the secondary channel. Thats right.

Wouldn't they put the game on an OTA channel if they wanted more people to have access to it?

Listen my friend, on Comcast the sports channels start at channel 720 and go to 736.

Roots' Ocho is 1253.

12... 53...

So if someone is home on a Saturday night and starts to scroll through the sports channels to find something to watch they're not going to scroll from 720 and stumble on the Blazers.

Your argument is that more people have access to the Blazers so the Blazers will get more fans.

And I'm trying to figure out how? ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN U are all in that 720 to 736 real estate. Roots 2 is not.

And they didn't even bother to list it as a Trail Blazer game, just basketball.

So sports fans aren't going to stumble onto the Blazers, only people who are looking for reruns of the Golden Girls.

Part of me wonders if the argument that there are more "viewers" is based on the access to the channel/games being improved from before vs the actual number of viewers who *watch* the game.

If the Blazers really want access to more viewers they should stream the games on Porn Hub.

Yeah, that's what I was asking. Saying we CAN reach 6 million households is all fine and dandy. But if it's because we expanded reach to Seattle, Alaska, Montana and Idaho, how many new viewers are we actually gettng?

Maybe put a grizzly and polar bear in the starting lineup.

I visit washington and parts of Idaho and Montana occasionally, and I can count on my hand how many fans of the Blazers there are that I've run into.

Not saying there aren't fans there, but the overwhelming bulk of Blazer fans live in the Portland area.

To brag about Alaska, Montana and Idaho getting access to Blazer games is missing the point. They make up a minor percentage of the Blazer fanbase.

But if you find the channel ONCE during preseason you should be good right?

I wonder why Root even wanted the Blazers to making the best offer that the Blazers felt they needed to take.

I've never been on that site? Can you please explain what it is? Seems to have a lot of followers around here? Maybe post a link or something?

Sometimes the Golden girls are more fun to watch! LOL

Me? Sure.

But I was already a fan before the Root deal. I didn't just stumble onto a game and decide to follow them.

Anyway, you can claim the Porn Hub idea as your own and tell it to your boss.
C’Mon dog, if people can’t figure out where to watch the game in almost 16 months….they deserve to watch whatever town hall meeting or crock pot infomercial they tune in to.

That's not what I'm saying.

Your position is that Blazer games are available to more people to watch. This should cause more non-fans to become fans because they can suddenly watch the team.

I'm saying that because many Blazer games are shown on Roots version of the Ocho, and that channel is so far removed from other sports channels, that is very unlikely.

But that then shows we're not bringing in the casual viewers that happen by the channel. So being available for more eyes isn't the huge deal they make it out to be if those casual viewers in Idaho don't flip to channel 1200 or whatever.
Either way, I'd be curious to see their television ratings throughout the years

I never said anything ever about non fans or what they do….. I simply said MORE people can now watch the team play. In the world of broadcast, that’s everything.

Yeah I don’t get into the ratings….good or bad, I just don’t understand that stuff. We will have crazy “good” numbers going up against ESPN against a crappy team one day and then “bad” numbers on a Tuesday night against a great team. So many factors that go into ratings, I leave that to my boss.

There is a reason why they don't put up Rolex ads in homeless camps. Just because more people see the ads doesn't translate to more sales.

You need to stick to whatever it is you do for a living….pump gas, deliver pizzas, stripping…… But in the world of broadcast, more exposure means more money plain and simple my friend. The little logos on the unis…. The amount the Lakers and Knicks get is in a completely different ballpark than what OKC and Utah get.
End of conversation….you are day drinking and I need to go to work even though we landed only 10 hours ago. Time to make the donuts Sly or whatever it is you do in the real world.
