Robin Lopez and His Future Here

I am happy to have Lopez. I think everyone on this team is just as happy. The problem doesn't lie on our starters, even Dame. Our problem lies with the role players and how they are used. Stotts needs to exploit mismatches and ride them. Something he doesn't do very well.

Or is unwilling to do because he wants to stubbornly stick to his "system".

One important consideration regarding Rolo's compensation is available options. Up until recently, it was assumed that Rolo was the best center we had. As Leonard has emerged and improved, Rolo-retention has become less and less essential. Keeping him around as a 3rd big behind LA and Leonard would be ideal, but I imagine he'll get more money and a better opportunity elsewhere.

Situations evolve, and opinions reasonably change.

I do think though that ML is more of a PF and Rolo is all center. So although I agree with your point, they really fill two different roles.

When did Rolo hurt his hand? Does that date correlate with his decreased performance? If so, is his injury permanent? If not why the hell are we that worried?

Good point. Not sure if his hand is the problem, but the dates do correlate. He has not played as well since he got back from that injury

his overall averages seem to be unchanged before and after.

I think Rolo's contract should fall somewhere in between starting C and back up C. I think we all want him back for the right price. He fits in well with this team, but there is no doubt he has limitations when it comes to rebounding. He is just not very quick to the ball. But he is smart, boxes out well and plays good team D. Not sure what that is worth with the new TV deal approaching, but I don't mind paying him a little more than he is worth. Just not too much more......
Yes. Robin is tantalizingly close to so many balls...and so many of them go to the opponent or out of bounds. If he could only jump a few more inches he'd be a dominant rebounder, LOL.

The TNT guys were having fun talking about Meyers.

Ernie pointed out he leads the playoffs in 3 point percentage.

Shaq kept calling him Baby Sabonis because of his shooting -- and because he wears Number 11 . :)

In the playoffs, the comparison isn't that far off... look at their advanced stats!

I actually started having thoughts about Sabas last night! I'm pretty geeked at the prospect of Meyer's continued improvement!

Meyers Leonard was a revelation last night.

Last night.

Can he set picks? Can he run pick and roll? Is he a league-leading rim protector?

No. Fortunately our GM knows this, and will keep RoLo where he belongs. His hand is clearly still bothering him, but he's way too valuable to let go.

No, but I'd consider afflalo and Lopez for hibbert and ? If afflalo opts in
IF Mathews is not the same player that COULD end up looking like a mistake. Then again it might not Wes is considered the heart & soul of this team. Afflalo would still be a very nice replacement to Wes as maybe even CJ. Perhaps CJ starts and Wes off the bench if Wes doesn't come back the same? Just throwing out ideas but by no means should this be considered a blue print easy decision.

I think more importantly Meyers is capable of playing alongside a 4 or a 5. His Mobility allows him to match up with PF's, and his Size and strength allow him to match up with centers too. Looking at his shooting percentages he lead the team in 2pt%, at .586, 3pt% at .420, ft% at .938 and efg% at .606. I wonder what his ceiling really is offensively... He's a very good passer too.

To me it's not about ROLO I want him back... But what about Kaman?

It sounds like Kaman is a big reason for Leonard's improvement. If that's actually the case I would love to bring Kaman back on a vet min contract to continue his mentorship of Meyers.

I like having this many 7 ft guys on the roster. I have no problem coming into next season with the exact roster we have now. It's minutes for bench players that will change and Wes may come off the bench when he gets back on the court..at least to get a clear idea of where he's at

Don't remember the specifics, but IIRC Kaman is signed for next year, team option, for a very cheap amount?

Anyone?

I like Rolo, but if he starts getting offers around 14-15 million, I would seriously have to consider letting him walk. He's a solid center, no doubt about that, but he's not even close to being a star player, and he's really just a role player. He's not worth that kind of money.

I have thoughts about Sabas EVERY night. But never because of Meyers Leonard. He gives me thoughts of Channing Frye.

If Aldridge stays I would love to somehow turn Robin Lopez into DeAndre Jordan. We have guys that could cover up Jordans bad free shooting if needed to be.

Meyers' passing (and shooting) is what reminds me of Sabas. Not that he's even 10% as good, but the fact that he's a 7'er who is good at passing excites me. Passing is such an underrated part of the game, yet I think it's among the most important things for success.

Kaman is partially guaranteed. Only $1 million of his $5 million. It's not a team option

He's got a way to go still to develop that no look over the shoulder pass that Sabos had

I have never EVER seen Meyers do this:

or this:

or this:

or any of these:

Meyers could be a solid passer... for a 7-footer. Sabonis was an amazing passer, period.

I don't think anyone is really comparing Meyers to Sabonis.

He is a long way from being Sabas in the Passing department even though he is the best big on the team in that game. In comparing Meyers with Sabas at 20 years old, Meyer is the only guy in the NBA that does compare, although Sabas at 20 was amazing. The man could handle the ball and simple do things you never saw a center do. Meyer is not that Sabas but I don't know that he can't or will not be in that league. At 24 years of age, I saw Sabas take a 3 point shot, miss but get his rebound and stuff it on the way down. The other nine on the court were spectators. I can see Meyer doing this and perhaps AD.

Aha. That's what I was thinking of. We can dump him cheaply (costs us $1Mil) or keep him for $5mil.

Thanks.

And he never will develop that type of game with the offensive system we are running. I loved the Walton/Sabonis high post passing game. Fun to watch.

Team option for 5 million is my recollection

Kaman is under contract for next season at like 4.5m, but only 1 million or so is guaranteed, so it's kind of like a team option in a way, but not really.
