Rodney Hood a Blazer

Yeah. Exactly. A “precursor” before another move. We’re in agreement.
Ah I was confused because you said you couldn't see us acquiring both but you think it's a precursor before another move, which that would be.

Yeah. I mean, I can’t see us getting Porter AND Hood, but the move seems to me like we went for the cheaper Hood, and will now follow up with another deal to balance the roster.

I'm just catching up on all of this. This trade didn't move my needle to a crazy degree, but it's still a solid addition for the rest of the season. Hood, while no Messiah, can be a contributing factor for us, whilst Baldwin and Steaksauce were not. The 2nd round picks are meh. You want to keep as many assets as you can, but, it's not hard to pick up a couple of 2nd round picks at a later date, if you need one.

This reminds me of the Afflalo trade, although I doubt we gave up someone of Barton's quality here. Same purpose behind the trade though: Bring in experienced wing help for the playoffs with a goal of hoping to make a bump up into the next round of the playoffs at least.

Hood is an ending contract, who's making about $3.5 mil this year.
edit: we do not have his bird rights, making re-signing him more complicated.
He's listed at 6'8", 208 lb.
He's an SG/SF.
He is 26 years old - Dame's timeline, blah, blah, blah.
He was thought very highly of in Utah (actually, not at the end), but not so much in his last 1.5 years in Cleveland.
He's Left Handed (which some seem to find relevant).
Slightly increases Luxury Tax.
A roster spot has opened up.
Shooting .362 from 3 this year, .368 for his career. Should thrive in a Stotts system.

We just traded 2 guys who don't play, for one that does. So, there is a bit of a rotation squeeze.

Low Risk, High Reward type of deal - a Buy Low, Sell High sort of deal (if we sell him high!)

Plays the same position as CJ.

I like the individual players on our bench, but their negative +/- is, frankly, why we don't have a much better record. Does this fix it?

Seems like it's signalling for another trade, but Neil hasn't made the promised "consolidation trade" EVER. Many of us are crossing our fingers.

OTOH, Neil has clearly been very busy. We'll see.
More important info:
Wade and Sauce are ending contracts, so if we decided we wanted either of them back, we'll have an opportunity this coming offseason.

Also, a great deal for Cleveland. They traded an expiring for 2 expirings + 2 2nd rounders.

Haven't seen it posted earlier, but Hood has played 65% of his time at SF this year. i don't see why he can't start there for us. He's long and 6'8.

Also, we've needed a lefty shooter for a while now

Blazers were a far better team then. Could have gone all the way that yeear had it not been for the wes Matthews injury

Might be snow on the ground tomorrow morning folks. My phone says it will start by around 9 tonight!

He's not long. His wingspan is within a half inch of his height....much less than Harkless, or Aminu. Good size though.

Yes, i know and have felt all along that he likely won't be dealt till the off season unless they get an offer that blows them away.
Thought I heard where they could trade for AD if they traded Kyrie before the deadline, other wise not until summer.

So here's how it breaks down.

Guards:
Dame, CJ, Curry, Simons, Trent

Wings:
Turner, Harkless, Aminu, Layman, Hood

Bigs:
Nurk, Zach, Leonard, Swanigan

Everyone of our wings needs minutes. While only 2 of our guards and maybe 3 of our bigs deserve PT. Something needs to shake out. No way we are done.

Not going to disagree with you here. But still, very similar trades, and for the same purpose really.

You forgot Curry too.

Neil's not done yet.

Hood can also play the 2. So add another guard to your list. Also, Turner plays guard the majority of his minutes.

Edit. Also Curry.

Guard vs. Wing is interesting.

Guard means PG or Combo Guard (A PG/SG) when being compared to a wing. A wing means more of a big SG or SF type. Hood would be a wing in this case.

We had some very deep teams in the early 2000 when we had Sheed and playing time was given to those that gave us the best chance to win. I remember Stoudamire was benched for a period of time. Nobody is guaranteed playing time as it should be earned.

Honestly, the only two who don't deserve minutes are Simons and ET. We have a LOT of Good players. We just need 1 or 2 more VERY good players...

We need a good defender at SF. Hood isn't that.

obviously guys can play multiple spots. I had trouble with ET, he plays PG on offense but can also guard Harden/Klay.
