On the record we have an added wrinkle - one that we thought to be highly unlikely until we found it reported with a quote attributed to Celtics GM Danny Ainge. It seems the Celtics are willing to package Rajon Rondo with Allen to make the right deal happen

"He's stubborn," Ainge told ESPN's Jackie MacMullen. "He doesn't always take direction well. He's very bright and knows what he needs to do to be successful. But sometimes he doesn't understand what the team needs to be successful."

Doc Rivers expressed similar sentiments, which he directed at Rondo himself earlier this season.

"Do you know your teammates hate playing with you? ... The point guard has to be the guy that brings energy to the team. You can't be the guy that sucks it away. Your moodiness is affecting us. Change it."

He sounds like a headcase but the guy is a beast...

:edit: meant Rondo, not Rando.

No thanks, Roy is the Alpha Male on this team. Plus we don't have what it would take to get rondo AND ray (since they seem to adamant on packaging the 2 together)

exactly. I'm sure they arent looking to just get Rid of Rondo for the sake of getting rid of him.. they would want a lot.. and a lot of salary would have to match with Jesus Shuttlesworth being included.

Re: Rando available?

I didn't say we should trade for him.

The rumors say they are talking to Phoenix about a Stoudemire package.

If that's what they are looking for I'm pretty sure they'd ask Portland for a LaMarcus Aldridge package.

Re: Rando available?

He is a great player, but I wouldn't want a headcase PG on the team.

The way Rondo played in the playoffs, if they ever deal him, it wont be on the cheap:

16.9 PPG
9.7 RPG
9.8 APG
+25

Insane numbers.

I fully expect Boston to start dealing their old players to retool before it's too late. Ray Allen hasn't been good in 2 years. Rondo has always been one of those guys who pisses everybody on the team off because he thinks he is all that, but he isn't.

This comes as unexpected.

Yeah, weird. Ainge and Doc just throwing their starting PG under the bus. I doubt the Blazers make a play for him, but I never thought Rondo was an idiot. Is Boston blowing up their team already?

I know sorry didnt mean it as you said we should trade for him.. you were just reporting.. it was more to shoot it down before the others start lol

I kind of think it would be stupid of them to trade him. He almost averaged a triple double in the playoffs. They should move their older guys before him!

I think you are missing the idea of the article. The idea being, they have to package him with one of their old dudes in order to move them. He is the value, the old dude being the contract they want to dump so they can bring in somebody else to play next to KG.

Also I wouldn't be surprised if they just stick with Marbury at PG, and say to hell with it.

Ainge and Rivers sound like headcases after those comments, actually. Rondo was easily their best and most consistent player in this year's playoffs.

Rondo must really be an asshole. Looking at that roster with KG/Pierce/Ray all on the fast decline and the way he played in the playoffs, I'd build that team around Rondo.

Okay I see. They need to move on of their best players to get rid of one of the older guys. Makes sense.

That is kind of what I thought too. They could find some sucker team to take on Ray or KG for a better piece.

I'm wondering how hard Ainge and Doc tried to work it out with Rajon before throwing him under the bus like this. I was always a critic of Rondo, because I felt his numbers are inflated by the presence of KG, Allen, and Pierce, but regardless, he's still a good PG. I would have expected the Celtic organization to find some kind of solution, which didn't involve moving their starting point guard.

Since Allen only has one year left on his contract, I think they are not trying to dump his contract, they are trying to obtain a younger impact player (like Stoudamire) and they need to include a good player along with Allen to entice the other team.

Sounds to me more like Ainge/Rivers are in full panic mode and desperate to shift the blame. :tsktsk:

Not really a surprise though. Throughout his playing career, there were mutterings about Ainge's "looking out for #1" attitude.

How bad just Rondo be to make Starbury look good?

That said, it is weird that Ainge and Rivers would throw Rondo under the bus. After all, it certainly doesn't enhance his trade value.

If they were to get Amare...how does that work with KG on the team? Too much PF mojo if you ask me...

Well, since there is only one Center in the Eastern Conference that is worth a damn, you play Amare at the 5 spot and call it a day.

Yeah, I thought about that after I posted, but I thought also that Amare does not like playing Center. I guess for a chance to play alongside KG, he would do it.

Rondo's talent is amazing, but clearly I have no idea what sort of attitude problems he has.

Of course, if Pritchard thought his attitude could be handled by this team, then I'd love for him to acquire Rondo. Assuming the attitude weren't a deal-breaker, this would be an ideal "consolidation" deal, if Pritchard could put together a package for Rondo that didn't involve Roy/Aldridge/Oden.

yeah even though I hate Ray Ray's age etc.. he would serve as Rudy's spot as backup 3 point specialist.. although he might not like it.

I agree...I think Rondo at PG would be great for us, but I am not sure if that is what KP thinks. We will see soon enough.

Let's face it... Ainge has a terrible track record before Kevin McHale handed him Garnett. This really doesn't come as surprising.

Whoa. That took me off guard. I call BS on this though. This is a ploy to put a budding star in his place. They would be stupid to announce these damaging issues and then try and move him. His value takes a major hit with this. Are they stupid?
