So what spots now are open?:
These are the ones that I know about.

Channing Frye (FC)
Raef LaFrentz (FC)
Sergio Rodriguez (PG) <--- traded to Kings
Michael Ruffin (PF) <--- probably will be traded.
Shavlik Randolph (PF) <--- a scrub

In theory we officially have these players right now

1. Roy
2. Aldridge
3. Oden
4. Joel
5. Rudy
6. Batum
7. Webster
8. Bayless

9. Blake
10. Travis

9 and 10 are as of today, and while I would be shocked, technically they might not be tomorrow.

Ruffin is a free agent and so is Shav.

5 spots available as of right now.

I am going to throw out this idea to see what folks think.

You have the salary cap.

You are allowed a 15 man roster.

In the old days, you could survive easily with 12 guys on your roster.

So that being said, what if you only carried 12 players. But by not having guys on your roster, you could buy better talent for the 12 guys you have. So not as deep in roster, but higher quality. Lets face it. The last 3 guys aren't going to see the court.

Then if an injury comes up, you have a roster spot to sign a free agent.

11. Pendergraph
12. Cunningham
13. Mills

For some reason, I feel pretty confident we are keeping our 2nd rounders.

I think a lot of teams get more than 12 on their roster just to have guys for practices.

You could hire guys as practice bodies, not team members. There is nothing preventing that circumvention, and I am sure there are plenty of basketball players looking for a job. Now instead of turning off the gymn lights in college for money, they can practice against but not be part of the team.
