Roy to retire today????

If this is true, I hope he stays with the organization in some kind of developmental role. There is so much he can teach Wes and Nic about scoring, and also to help LA in developing that clutch mentality.

Re: According to Chris Broussard, Roy to announce medical retirement today!

I wouldn't be surprised if Roy was offered an assistant coach or broadcasting job after this.

woah... not to mention this screws our cap for next season!!!!!

If league docs concur Brandon Roy isn't fit to play, his contract comes of Blazers books 1 year from date of official retirement.

It makes the off-season coming up a little bit dicey, but after that it's a huge boon for the team -- insurance will pick up some of the tab on his contract, we get to keep the amnesty just in case we need to use it and cap room wasn't really going to be all that big of a deal for this team anyway, aside from changing the mid-level exception available to us this coming July.

why would they use the amnesty if he retires? thats dumb.

also it takes 1 year for the retirement clause to kick in.... which means no cap space next season. we are fked

LOL...there has to be a reason that you're trying and failing so hard to put a negative spin on this.

Hey, do you DJ? Work for a radio station?

Re: According to Chris Broussard, Roy to announce medical retirement today!

Would Broussard put his name on this if he didnt have a good source? He's gonna look like a fool if it ends up not being true.

Re: According to Chris Broussard, Roy to announce medical retirement today!

so they should blow it up now....

next summer we lose roy, oden camby and wallace.

Cap space was never really an option even with Roy amnestied; we were still going to be over the soft-cap.

Re: According to Chris Broussard, Roy to announce medical retirement today!

So how does this work? Could we offer oden a large contract and still be umbrella under the amnesty? That can change everything

This is depressing as is. Who the hell cares about the bets now?

Amnesty is for contracts from the previous CBA, so Oden would not be eligible.

Re: According to Chris Broussard, Roy to announce medical retirement today!

Today we lose Roy, though some might say that we "lost" Roy on his last surgery before the PHX series where they took out all of his meniscus.
Potentially we lose Oden.
We'll lose Camby at the trade deadline, probably.
Wallace has a player option for almost 10M. If you think that a past-his-prime SF is getting more than 10M guaranteed a year, then yes, he's probably gone. Fortunately, he plays the same position as Batum.

What does blowing it up now have to do with anything?

in respect to what Roy has done for this franchise and fans I negate my bet with Mags, have no interest in collecting. Great respect to Brandon to make what had to be incredibly hard decision in his prime.

THANKS FOR ALL THE GREAT MEMORIES!!!!

with wallace camby and oden off the books.... we wouldnt have the full mid level???

THAT RULE SUCKS!!

Re: According to Chris Broussard, Roy to announce medical retirement today!

If it is true. Roy deserves a lot of respect for not trying to keep playing just to collect his $$$$.

Re: According to Chris Broussard, Roy to announce medical retirement today!

Unbelievable. Literally.

unfortunately it's very believeable to those of us who consistently warned on how bad a bone on bone condition was. Rather see him do this then cripple himself and need a double knee replacment within 5 yrs or less.

Thank you Brandon for helping turn a franchise around and bringing back excitement to a city!

plus a MILLION, max respect for Roy

Fuck. I can't work like this. This is devastating.

They better honor #7 in some way on opening night.

I LOVE B-Roy! (no homo) It's tough to see his career end like this.

Well, he gets paid no matter what, but I agree that it shows some class from him to think of how his performance would affect the success of the team.

It would be awfully tough for a guy with Roy's competitiveness and past level of play to accept being nothing but a short-minutes, role-player after achieving all-star and all-NBA honors.
