Sounds like Rudy is gonna be okay, based on what they just said on the 5th Quarter show.

What does okay mean, that he can walk? I mean the guy is going to miss some time.:sigh:

His reaction is what made Brandon get so mad. I'm glad Roy won't be suspended but I would've enjoyed seeing him deck Ariza. Or Odom if he's not available.

Ruffin can earn his paycheck for the year by blasting Ariza in the face with an elbow on April 10th.

That's what Roy said in the intereviews after the game. Ariza was being a douchebag. Roy headed into his direction and Ariza started trash-talking before Roy said a word.

I just went back and watched it a few times. You are right. It looks like he was almost enjoying the moment. Trying to make a statement. Fuckin Bruins

Well your guess is as good as mine right now, but they keep saying on the 5th quarter that things look good, not as bad as first anticipated, etc. 🤷

Please expound upon that comment for those of us in hell (L.A.).

Given how they've handled the Oden injury I'll take that with a grain of salt the size of Spain.

They said he could move all his extremities, but that he was feeling pain in his chest.

On the postgame show Nate said he'd heard from the hospital that they didn't think it was going to be serious but that Rudy would be in some pain tomorrow.

Hopefully Rudy is OK and at 100% ASAP. I would bet that Batum's showboating and Rudy's celebrations after his three pointers and the overall score at the time added up to frustration for Ariza. It doesn't make it right, but it's at least semi-understandable.

I'm rocking my Rudy Fernandez shirt to work tomorrow (boss is out of town, don't have to meet with anyone so I'll just throw a blazer over it).

viva blazers!

So basically they can dish it out but when someone does it to them they resort to flagrant fouls because they're upset... But I'm glad you find it understandable, I'm sure that means a lot to Rudy.

Lakers' Ariza speaks about Fernandez, the hard foul and the ensuing altercation
Posted by Joe Freeman, The Oregonian March 09, 2009 22:28PM

There is no new information on Rudy Fernandez, the Trail Blazers reserve who was carried away from the Rose Garden on a stretcher after enduring a hard foul on a fast break in the third quarter of the team's 111-94 win over the Los Angeles Lakers Monday night. The Blazers intend to release something more within an hour.

Lakers forward Trevor Ariza, the player fouled Fernandez -- drawing a Flagrant 2 foul and automatic ejection -- spoke to reporters following the game. Here's what he had to say:

"First off, I want to say I hope Rudy's all right. I was just trying to make a hard play to the ball. I hope he's fine and my best wishes go out to him and his family."

From your perspective, what happened on the play?
"I was just trying to go for the ball, trying to make a good play on the ball and unfortunately somebody got hurt."

Surprised they called a Flagrant 2?
"A little. But that's the referees' decision. I'm just trying to play the game the right way, not give up anything easy."

What did you think about the reaction from the Blazers?
"It's expected. That's one of their teammates. If it was one of my teammates, I would probably do the same thing, too. No hard feelings. It was just protecting a teammate."

Put yourself in his position. You're going down on a fast break and someone comes up behind and fouls you like that. How would you react?
"It happens. It's basketball. Nobody's trying to hurt anybody out here but things happen."

Any concern that you're going to get suspended?
"Honestly, there's nothing I can do about that. I hope it doesn't happen. I was just trying to go for the ball. I wasn't trying to hurt anybody or do anything like that."

What went on in the altercation by the team bench?
"Honestly, I don't even remember. It was a heat-of-the-moment thing. I don't remember what happened."

Surprised the Blazers surrounded you like that?
"Like I said, that was one of their teammates. They're a good, close team so that's not surprising at all."

Looking back, would you still have handled the play the same way?
"Yeah. Because it wasn't anything I was trying to do. I wasn't trying to hurt him. I was just trying to make a play for the ball. It wasn't anything; I wasn't trying to hurt him. I was just trying to make a play for the ball for my team."

I was at the game.

I saw the play.

I saw Rudys body twist and flip.

Aziza is a liar. He wasn't going for the ball.

He pulled Rudys arm down.

You think it means a lot to Rudy that some here wanted a fan to throw a beer at him? Or to physically threaten Lakers players or fans?

That's ridiculous.

Good, Lakers needed a garbage man, Ariza might as well turn out to be that.

P.S rudy had it coming. Just saying.

Uhh... how did you come to that conclusion? Evil Knievel couldn't have made that leap...

What. the. fuck.

Do you really think that seeing it in real-time in real life is better than seeing it in multiple camera angles, with the ability to play it back over and over and over in slow-motion? You don't really think that, do you?

Did he get the ball entirely by accident?

It's CLEAR that he was going for the ball IMO. He just went through Rudy's body to get there. If he wasn't going for the ball--if he REALLY wanted to hurt Rudy as much as possible--he could have grabbed or pushed his legs out from under him.

The way he went for the ball was illegal, and it was punished with a flagrant 2 foul. That's why they have flagrant 2 fouls.

Rudy twisted and flipped because he was high up in the air, because Ariza flagrantly fouled him, and because Rudy doesn't weigh very much. His flipping is not inconsistent with Ariza's stated INTENT of going hard to the ball.

I agree that Rudy had it coming. Hitting every shot he took, completely owning your team. It must have been hard for the L*kers to take. Now Kobe knows how the concierge felt; your team was bent over and raped.

What does this even mean? First you state that a flagrant 2 foul is semi-understandable because somebody celebrated early in the game, and then you build strawmen to support your ridiculous initial post.

Ed, he swung, hit him in the head and then grabbed his wrist. We're going to have to agree to disagree on Ariza's intent.

Ed O in a "taking the other side" shocker :rolleyes3:

Increasing his "anti-homer" bona fides, but it doesn't really come off that way, does it?

Why is it so hard to call a cheapshot a cheapshot? Ariza's antics after the foul leave no doubt what he was trying to do.

What. the. fuck.

You said that the position in my post would make him feel better. You were being sarcastic. You therefore meant that the position in my post would NOT make him feel better.

The only reason you would bring that up, assuming you weren't hitting keys randomly, was because Rudy might be consoled by other positions in other posts in this thread. Since you did not go out of your way to note that the things that I mentioned (beer being thrown, safety of players and fans) would not make feel Rudy feel better, it seemed to me like you were tacitly accepting them as things that Rudy WOULD feel better about.

Which is silly. Rudy doesn't give a shit about what anyone on this board thinks, and I find it likely that he would agree more with the post you responded to (explaining the illegal fould Ariza performed) than some others here that you did not call out.

Is that clear enough for you now?

Ed O.
