Thirdly, I must also say that I was a bit surprised to see our guys celebrating after the game. I kinda expected them to quickly leave the court and head to the hospital to check on Rudy. Much is made about how close this team is, and one of their teammates was rolled off the court on a gurney. Not something to be taken lightly. I realize a lot of it was probably done as a precaution, but still.... a very somber moment. I expected our boys to be a little more concerned with Rudy's well being.

Maybe they were told by team personnel that Rudy was all right, and there was no need to be worried. He might even be back at practice tomorrow, who knows. :dunno:

I'm sure there was no disrespect.

One thing that struck me while watching it in real time.... Rudy layed there by himself, it seemed, while the fracas occurred over at the Laker bench (until doctors arrived). The only player that went to check on him was Farmar, who then quickly tried to intercede between his teammates and the Blazers. I can understand why Roy, Aldridge, Outlaw, etc would want to stand up for their teammate, but I think my first reaction would have been to see if he was okay.
i don't think you can fault anyone for that. there's no way to know how you'd react until you're in that spot. there was also no way to know how badly rudy was injured. i definitely have a lot of respect for farmar though trying to see if rudy was ok and was prepared to help him up and then eventually went away to pull some lakers back to the bench.

I understand, but I'm just relaying my thoughts at the time of the event. It just seemed kind of sad to see Rudy laying there, by himself, while this shoving match broke out a mere feet from his head.

And you did see the players get together and pray while Rudy was being taken care of. How often do you see that happen in the NBA? I thought that was a heartfelt moment..

Do you know that none of them have visited him in the hospital, or are you just assuming they have not?

And, even if they haven't, it may have been on doctors orders (no visitors) or hospital policy (family members only after visiting hours).

Definitely. As soon as I saw Monty Williams with his head down and the players huddled around him, I knew they were saying a prayer for Rudy.

None of his teammates could leave the bench or face a one game suspension. The four that were in the game were being pushed away or being held back in order to keep the situation from escalating.

I didn't say that BNM. I said I was surprised to see them standing around celebrating, and that I kinda expected them to just leave the court and go see Rudy in the hospital. I guess my point is, it was a bitter sweet win with Rudy being taken away in an ambulance.

They were being held back because they all went to get in Ariza's face... they weren't being held back from helping Rudy.

Another update on Rudy's condition from Spanish media: Spanish Link

Translated Link

Some highlights:
-Sergio reported from the hospital that Rudy was initially very scared (I think it meant "in a state of shock") as he had difficulty breathing.

-He will stay there overnight (has already fallen asleep), but he should be fine. He is with some friends and a bodyguard.

-His side (I think one side of the body) and neck still hurt.

-Sergio didn't really know how to react to the situation as it was unfolding, since coaches formed a blockade around the bench to prevent anyone from joining the melee.

Ed O. playing contrarian in hopes of invoking excitement on the board. I've seen this same song and dance going on 6 years.

Yea when he went down I thought he just got the wind knocked out of him. Wow, what a downer. Ariza looks pretty stupid, down thirty, commits a dirty foul, and then wants to fight about it?!?

He's always been a cheap shot artist.

I like his fuzzy memory on the immediate aftermath where he was screaming and gesticulating like a madman.

Ah yes, the politician's answer, "I don't recall".

PapaG, like your new avi.

I had heard, from Mike & Mike, that Rudy seemed OK, at least he was conscious and moving all limbs. I thought then even if he has a cracked rib or separated shoulder or something, you DO recover from those injuries. A spinal injury is another matter. I think relief was a factor in the Blazers celebrating. Also, it's clear that at least Sergio went to the hospital.

As for them not gathering around Rudy on the floor, the docs and trainer got there very fast. I think the correct thing to do for the players and coaches was to stay away and let the medical professionals do their job unimpeded.

Farmar and Gasol clearly showed concern for Rudy. If Ariza hasn't got the ovaries to apologize, he should just sit down and shut up. Stupid boy. Even assuming no intent to really harm, as Spud says, hell, if you accidentally bump into someone on the sidewalk you should say "excuse me".

I think if Ariza had not intended to lay Rudy out, he wouldn't have gotten so uppidy after the foul. It was sorta one of those "by accident on purpose" deals. That little bitch knew what he was doing....just keep it real.

I wish Rudy the best. Sucks to get taken out like that when the game was basically over.

On a different note--hopefully when Rudy comes back he'll start to realize that high-flying 175 pound guys just don't last long in the NBA. He's either got to adjust his game and take the conservative layup in that position, or he's got to add about 15-20 pounds of muscle in the off-season. It's just not realistic to expect to have a long NBA career with his body type and playing style.

it will be shameful for oden if rudy did return wednesday.... shameful.

you know it and i know it.... oden is a pussy and would be out for the season (isnt he already)

least rudy seems tough and actually LIKEs to play.

After a great win over the team with the best record in the league the only thing you can say is still negative. Go back to your hole we didn't miss you. Really!!!!!:sigh:

good thing for most fans the laker game was a blowout....

i was thinking divison title after watching us vs the pacers and twolves

bottom line... if rudy is out for more then a week.... we are screwed and anyone wanna bet rudy is back 2-3 weeks before oden

Welcome to ignore. I've been participating in online forums on various topics for over 19 years. All forums are populated with people who deserve to be ignored, but this is the first time I have ever resorted to using the ignore feature.

You just troll, troll, and troll without adding anything useful to the discourse. I hope others will join me in ignoring you and you will eventually get the message, or at least stop being self-amused and simply go away. It would truly make this forum a better place.

I don't think you understand how the human anatomy works and how body parts recover.

truth hurts

rudy on the other hand has played through injuries all year like joel. oden milks them for all they are worth.
