Sabonis on trade block

Sabonis is 1.5 years older.

yeah....ok?

he was a 22 year old big who had a PER of 21.9, a TS% of .630, and a winshare/48 of .197. He had a rebounding rate of 20.8% which was better than Kanter (20.6%) and Nurkic (20.2%). He averaged 4.2 assists/36 and had an assist rate of 18.2% which was better than Nurkic (17.9%) and CJ (13.8%)

the fact he's only 1.5 years older than Collins with only 1 year more experience suggests he could easily have as much upside as Collins, if not more, and he's starting from a much higher level, right now, than Collins. His numbers compare more favorably to Nurkic than Zach's numbers compare with him

I'm not saying I'd trade Collins for Sabonis because I'm not sure how suitable Sabonis is for PF, although he does have good mobility. That and the fact he'll be getting paid big-time in 8 months

This trade will not happen due there GM will never trade with us due to he got fire here.

personally, I'm mostly convinced that's fake news. I don't believe it and it seems a lot like spin from somewhere in blazerland, maybe some ass-covering for a weak offer for Paul George...yeah - my theory

Olshey didn't arrive till 3 years after KP was fired. Paul Allen is gone. IMO, If Portland offered a strong deal to Indiana, I really doubt KP would decline because Portland fired him a decade ago

Indy fans are saying the whole reason why he's not re-signed in the first place is because he can't play power forward. Offensively he can, but defensively not so much. So he's basically an undersized center. We don't need that.
Is that proven that he can't play PF? Lots of Blazers fans say Zach can't play PF either. It doesn't necessarily mean they can't.

bbref says he played 33% or the time at PF and 68% at C

82games says the breakdown was Sabonis played 11% of Indy's PF minutes and 35% of their C minutes.

so, they seem to have the breakdowns about the same. 82games breaks it down a little more: Sabonis was a slightly better offensively at C, going by PER and rebound rate; better eFG% at PF though. But Sabonis was much better defensively at PF. He gave up a PER of 22.4 at C and 13.5 at PF

going by the numbers at 82games, Sabonis was a better overall PF last season than Zach. He just didn't play as big of chunk of his minutes there:

I think we need two types of PF's. Zach is one kind, and the other needs to be a very good perimeter shooter and perimeter defender. So Zach or Sabonis- but not both.

I think Sabonis would be a lateral move for any of our young bigs….I think Nas is going to be a keeper for one..I'm not sure Sabonis at his price is that big of an upgrade at the 4. The only guys on the roster that I have no attachment to are Trent Jr., Hoard and Tolliver or picks. I want to see what Pau brings to the mix before trading away the roster. To get Sabonis they'd want Whiteside probably ...I think that's what you'd have to consider to bring him to Portland.. Whiteside is a way better center in my view but he's expiring and expensive.

Cs are much better in the East than PFs.

Sabonis' stats are impressive. Weird that I have never seen him impress against the Blazers.

Why on earth?

Because he is less effective at the 4 and on defense than Collins - and with Nurk as the #1 center - it will be inefficient to play him next to Nurk and a downgrade on defense when he plays C in the 2nd unit.

Might as well have Collins with better versatility and defense.

So, why is Sabonis on the block?

So pretty much the same situation he would be in here.

I think we have the money to spend next summer and maybe we are willing to do it. Indiana doesn't want to do it and so they look for what they can get. They tried to extend him, it is not they don't like him. But probably he asks around 20.

All those guys that expire next summer know what they are doing and they ask more than they deserve. It will be so dry market next summer so somebody will overpay for them.

Super cerebral and an elite rebounder/glue guy.

Zach for Sabas -- it'd be tough but I'd do it. This is the value you'd have to give up.

Restricted free agency is weird sometimes though. Either a player gets really overpaid or it's sometimes a value deal. A lot of people thought we were going to have to give Nurk $18-$20 million.

Yeah this I don't know how it happened. I guess Nurk was right to sign with Paul.

Neil's probably having a good laugh at this thread while he has his eyes set on Kevin Love.

Sabonis is a gamer. He has a high bbiq is scrappy and despite some weak spots in his game, really can play either position depending on who he's against. If Nurk does come back, Pau shows he can contribute, Sabonis could be a huge asset in the playoffs with all of them. If we are in win now mode and can get him for picks and a combo of Skal, Trent, Little etc. He is more valuable than any of those guys at this point and most likely the picks we could acquire. (debatable) We could reload next season with Whiteside etc gone. Or possibly still trade Whiteside for another piece. If it's win now because we're in Dame's prime....why not take a big swing.

Is anyone comfortable paying Sabonis a ton of money to come off the bench?
