The guy on 620am was just saying that the NBA is against the Seattle offer because the stadium is privately funded. Supposedly that is not sitting well with 3 other owners who are currently asking voters for tax payers to build them new arenas.

You have just discovered a new theory for why referees are told to make bad calls against the Blazers.

Weird...the Seattle arena has a public contribution of $200M public money (NBA and hockey) or $125M (NBA only). Or something like that. Maybe they don't like that the private contribution is a bigger percentage than Sac?

Could be that more than anything else, they like the threat of Hansen being out there to scare the politicians into giving them better arena deals.

The franchise and their arena plans, this is going to cost over a billion.

I'll be honest, $625 million is enough money for Paul Allen to sell the team to Hansen and just give the deed to the Rose Garden to the city of Portland. The City of Portland is so fucked up they would let the Blazers out of their lease agreement in exchange for the Rose Quarter.

Years back when PA was thinking about selling the evaluation of the team and the arena together was $300 mill.

what good would the RG do the city of Portland if the main draw for the RG is gone?

Genius. Guessing the cheapskate owners won't like the idea of the Maloofs continuing to draw from the revenue sharing for the foreseeable future.

Lol maybe one of the other owners will step up and let Hansen buy their squad. The price is getting high enough, some of them may be thinking about it.

I'm guessing Hansen will get the Kings, now that the Maloofs said they'd sell him 20% and keep the rest and completely refuse to entertain the offer of teh SAC based group.

Sort of on-topic:

Phil Jackson's decision to return to the NBA is contingent on the resolution of the Sacramento Kings sale, ESPN.com reported Saturday.

Jackson, winner of 11 NBA titles as coach of the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers, has expressed interest in taking a front office job for a team.

Jackson reportedly wants to wait to see if the Kings get sold to the Seattle group that is looking to buy the team. ESPN.com recently reported that Jackson "hit it off" with Chris Hansen, who is leading the Seattle group.

It upped its offer Friday to buy the Kings from the Maloof family to $625 million and move them to Seattle. Hansen is reportedly interested in hiring Jackson as the team president if the sale goes through. However, the NBA's relocation committee already voted to deny the move of the franchise. A final vote by the owners on the issue is scheduled for Wednesday.

So, the question is after:

1. Blowing the doors off the Sac offer, with an increase in return to the Maloofs of $60 million
2. Making a huge relocation fee off that would give $4 million to each of the other owners
3. Guaranteeing not to be a revenue siphon (Hansen actually said the guarantee was to be a payor, meaning big budget payroll)
4. Putting a back up offer to the Maloofs that would basically fund the Maloofs to continue as Kings own and continue to siphon league revenue
5. Pointing out all the advantages his group had anyway (better funded, arena deal signed, land already purchased, permit and environmental review underway, etc.)

...has Hansen done so much that he's just PO'd the NBA and they reject him again?

Second question, if he gets rejected, does he play nice or go scorched earth?

Tomorrow should be an interesting day...the combined relocation and finance committees are meeting again. So the NBA isn't completely ignoring Hansen's moves

Man this is crazy! I thought the meeting was on the 15th.

The BoG meeting is on the 15th, but the finance/relocation committee meeting set up a teleconference for tomorrow and the Hansen and Ranadive groups are reportedly presenting in person to the finance/relocation committee on Tuesday. Each of the next three days should be interesting.

Mobes was my nickname from college and it's a takeoff of my last name.

So each group is presenting their cases AGAIN! I love it......Go Seattle!

I think the Tuesday meeting had been the plan for awhile...but it'll be a lot more heated than the NBA thought it would be. Tomorrow's meeting is new news.

Purely for PR reasons, I'm guessing the relocation committee official recommendation won't change regardless of Hansen's moves. If Hansen ultimately succeeds, it's possible the finance committee suddenly makes a recommendation (which would require another 7 day delay in a BoG vote) or the BoG ignores the recommendation of the relocation committee.

Doesn't this have to be figured out by the lottery? Not really leaving a lot of time...

I haven't heard anything said about the lottery being a factor as far as timing goes. The only timing point mentioned by the NBA so far is setting the NBA schedule for the 2013-14 season...obviously Sac and Seatle would have different scheduling constraints and travel schedules need to be set. OKC relocation apparently happened in July, so this probably isn't an issue yet.

There's no real decision as far as the lottery goes, but I could imagine some weirdness when it comes to the actual draft if the purchase isn't finalized and is in limbo. In that case, it would probably be up to the Maloofs to draft.

One other thing to keep on the radar is that Ranadive's group apparently has not put the full purchase amount (of their lower $ offer) in escrow. There's some question whether they have liquid cash to do this and the Maloof's have raised it as a concern repeatedly. If Ranadive fails to put the money into escrow, that could be used as an excuse by the NBA to switch recommendations to Hansen.

"The Maloofs have informed their fellow owners that if their deal to sell and relocate the Kings to Seattle is not approved by league owners next week, they will not sell the team to a Sacramento-based group that promises to keep the team in Sacramento, two sources told ESPN.com on Saturday."

Shit's getting real.

I can get the Maloofs wanting the better offer, but to outright push for the relocation seems a bit much. How much more money do the Maloofs get from Hansen's group for the relocation to Seattle, as opposed to simply selling to Hansen's group (and they keep them in Sacto for the time being)?

It may be Un-American way, but I just don't agree that because someone owns a team, they can move it anywhere they want. This is not like other businesses. You should not be allowed to do that to fans who have invested so much to their team. It was wrong that Seattle lost the Sonics and it is wrong that the Maloofs will get their way with the Kings. I realize the Kings started somewhere else as well, but they were not supported like they have been in Sac town. It should not simply go to the highest bidder.

It will be a very sad day for a lot of kids who are die hard Kings fans. In the end the fans always get screwed.

I don't think Hansen buying the team and keeping the team in Sac is on the table. Hansen's been pushing hard to make that not happen. The Maloofs make $60-$65 million more selling to Hansen than they would in the lower dollar Ranadive offer. Maloofs want the Hansen deal for the cash, which is pretty understandable.

The backup offer means the Maloofs keep the team...guessing that would be the Maloof's preferred choice and the NBA's living breathing nightmare.

Despite all the pro-Sacramento steps the NBA has taken through the process, I actually think it's very possible there's change today or this week. With the 7-0 relocation decision, there was a lot of talk about the tie going to the runner (current city) and that the offers were in the same ballpark. Hansen made it so the two deals are not in the same ballpark. The total franchise value is approx. $100 million more with Hansen (more money for the Maloofs) and Hansen also agreed to be a revenue payor and pay a hefty $100 million relocation fee (money to the owners.) My bold prediction (that will almost assuredly be wrong) is that the relocation committee, in connection with feedback from the finance committee and it's review of the deals, changes its recommendation and the BoG meeting is re-scheduled for late next week.

I should add, that prediction could easily change if Ranadive ups his offer or other facts change.
