c'mon man....the NBA commissioner spoke about the 'pending' sale of the Blazers and twice said the NBA's "preference" was to keep the Blazers in Portland at the same time he essentially said the team needs a new arena. So, does no new arena mean that preference is no longer in place? That's damning with faint praise and it absolutely opened the possibility of Portland ending up on the same track as the Sonics

will it happen? Probably less than 50-50 chance. But before Silver opened his mouth most would have thought it couldn't happen. Now we know it might
Cmon man, for years the NBA has always used "our preference" as a way to motivate cities. Justnlookmat Sac Town and their new area. If this city loses the team, just like Seattle its Portland's fault. The city of Seattle allowed that to happen knowing they had a new owner that could bolt. Theyvare extremely lucky the Seachickens and Mariners didn't bolt. Maybe they will leave, but Silvers statement is not that convincing to me...

wut?

do you believe Silver's comments were just random remarks he didn't think about before riffing on the 'auction'? Does he seem like a random comment kind of guy to you?

or is it possible he has already had some feedback from the Vulcans and/or prospective buyer(s) and the condition and age of the Moda, along with the lease agreement, have been front and center in the feedback? And that was the basis for his comments?

I think the odds are decent the Blazers won't move. But Silver prodding the city about a new arena is development that can't be dismissed

Its a card they've always used when franchises are up for sale or just simply want a new arena/major remodel, for a franchise that needs it. The MODA is old and out dated and the league would be suggesting a new area anyway even if the team wasn't for sale. Im sure they encouraged OKC to build a new area and they are. Just my opinion is all.

I hope the team pays for it, because I doubt a majority of voters will want to.

Scoot will be coached by a Hall of Famer, mentored by a franchise icon and future hall of famer and will play with a DPoy candidate and universally beloved teammate and great leader. Has a young player ever been in such a great environment to perform? This year will define his future big time and the opportunity to make a huge leap is there.

In fairness, as much as I want that to be true, Chauncey's a Hall of Fame player, but the jury's still out on him as a coach, and Mentor Dame forced a trade out of Portland two years ago rather than mentor Scoot when it would have been easiest, so I don't know if Dame's greatness as a player translates to Dame being great as a mentor. I hope so, but there's not a lot to indicate that to be the case.

If I’m Scoot I want the hell out of town. No commitment from management, no crunch time minutes again. Whats he gonna be offered for a second contract, min deal because he doesn’t get a chance to run his team? Proven nothing watching Jrue/Dame. Trade him before he asks out. They are already tanking his value by bringing all these PG’s in for him to watch. He has too much talent and value for this.

Is this a joke lol?

Just watched this game NY@PDX from last springIMG_2391.jpeg ….. Señor Scoota’ scored the teams last 10 points and looked absolutely unstoppable! @THE HCP is pumped to see what he brings this season!

He has at most 30 to 35 games under his belt where he looked like a decent NBA player. And even that is being generous for that stretch last season.

He is in absolutely no position to be demand, expect or even deserve a commitment from management, nor has he earned crunch minutes.

Be real.

Majority of voters are going to have to vote to pay for some of it.

If they are able to figure that out by allocating arena related revenue then that's great.

But the city and state are going to have to play ball. If they aren't willing to then we probably don't deserve to keep a team.

He hasn't had the opportunity, IMO. Not consistently.

When in the 30ish games he's gotten the opportunity he's looked good.

And I just watched THIS game against Toronto and I truly believe we are going to miss Ant’s ability to hit some HUGE shots down the stretch.

Preference doesn't equal requirement. Seems you are looking at his statement with a glass half empty mindset. I see it as glass half full.
Combine what Tom said and what Tom hS done,

50/50 doesn't evenseem close to me. More like 80/20.

paranoia will destroya.

I think if Jrue goes down, the Conductor will start Deni at pg

You wouldn't have to run him at PG per say, but it would be very easy to have our guards bring up the ball then immediately slide it to Deni (after he receives a pindown screen)
to put him in pick and roll/pop situations. This is sound offensive planning IMO.

Would you consider him our first option now?

He is their first option. Whether or not he's the first option once/if they're a competing team, is a different thing.

The reason why Deni probably is a better #1 than Ant is, Deni does far more in the game than Ant ever did. He's significantly better at rebounding, he's a better passer, better at getting to the hoop, and better at taking advantage of his opponents. He gets to the free throw line almost twice as much as Simons did too.

And most importantly, he's a significantly better defender than Simons ever was, which is saying a lot because it's not like Deni is a defensive stalwart.

We will miss Ant’s ability to heat up down the stretch of a tight game. Guy got big buckets for us regardless of how people feel about his overall game.

I don't think anybody denies Ant's ability to get hot and hit tough shots at times.

He just doesn't do it often enough to overshadow his deficiencies and he doesn't make his teammates better.

His "ability" to heat up is very overstated tho. He also had moments where he got burned on defense (won't miss that) or just was there. He wasn't the most consistent on which Ant we got too.

I don’t think anybody denies Ant’s deficiencies, but those were covered by his teammates….. helping on defense is a lot easier than hitting huge shots in tight games. He will be missed for sure.

Simons was Dame DollaStore.

You’d get the cheap knockoff equivalent of Dame for a fraction of the games.

I know how exactly what I'd do to put him in the best position to get the most out of his talent. He needs to receive the ball when he's on the move and receiving a closeout.
He DESTROYS in those situations whether it be him scoring or drawing and kicking to a teammate. He is our most consistent and efficient scorer. He plays both sides of the ball.
He's an AND 1 waiting to happen. Give him the keys and unleash him. I TRULY think he could be as good as Luka even better because he plays D and isn't a soft ass FLOPPER.

Easily our best player.

Nah. Ant's deficiencies hurt the production of his teammates.

If Ant is missed then we should just go back to tanking ASAP.

Man, that would be incredible.

We will miss his ability to heat up in tight games and hit big shots. No question about it.
