Very happy for him. But I will need to see more than one game against the Pacers. Hope he will be able to built on this very good game.

He played very well esp in the first half. I feel it bothers him that he has to delegate some point guarding to Deni.
Honestly I feel like at the end of the game it bothered Deni, too. Just a hunch (probably wrong as I’m sure HCP will tell me) that this tension came from the coaching staff.

wut?

well then, next season when the Blazers have Dame, Jrue, Sharpe, and Deni in the primary rotation Scoot will be ultra-bothered

I'm talking soecifically ball handling duties. Scoot is a natural PG. I could sense the awkwardness of him having to dribble then hand it over to Denny as they cross half court. A PG is wired to take that rock and cross half court and setup the play.

Deni has established himself as the man on this team and the ball is going to be in his hands a lot going forward. That said, he won't be playing 48 minutes per game and teams with the best offenses usually have multiple playmakers like OKC with SGA and JWilliams. There is plenty of room for Scoot to thrive here but his best pathforward to doing that on offense is to be both a distributor and a scorer/shooter.

As per usual my glass is more half full then empty but tonight it has some tequila in it.

I love the idea of Deni, Shae and Scoot playing together. If I'm not mistaken one of Scoot's threes last night was off a Deni assist. All three guys move well without the ball and if all three can make their open threes then Deni becomes really hard to double team.

I want the core kids to work out so badly it hurts

it would be nice if they worked out and actually became core players. Now, my definition of core players is narrower than a lot of people. I think Portland only has one core player now and that's Deni.. After Aldridge left, I think Portland spent years with a one man core of Dame. The rest were/are supporting players IMO

of the 4 recent lottery picks, Clingan is the only one at this point that is close to being a core player. I don't think many C's become core unless they are unicorns like Jokic or Wemby. Clingan is an elite rebounder and is really good at shot-a in-paint intimidation. But he does have limitations. Camara is close too but his limited offensive skills may keep him outside the club

Sharpe and Scoot are not close to being core at this point in time. Too inconsistent; way too inefficient; too often injured. Yang is a joke.

so yeah, it would be nice if at least one of Sharpe/Scoot elevated themselves. It might be nicer if the Blazer F.O. was actually capable of recognizing that hoped-for core players would never be more than role players and assigned value accordingly. Olshey's delusion that CJ was a core player locked Portland on a treadmill for years

What about when maybe the best pure shooter in the league returns?
Obviously his injury will affect/affect his game, but he was having a damn good season leading up to it…….

Yes at the least Dame should be helpful next year hitting open looks at a high rate, but only one guy has any claim to being the best pure shooter in the world. No maybe about it, that guy is Curry.

so was I. Dame and Jrue have been NBA PG's for a combined 30 seasons. 3 decades of PG habits. This season Deni + Sharpe both have usage rates around 30%. If all 4 of those guys come back, that's a ton of ball dominance and offense initiation standing in Scoot's way. None of those 4 guys will be willing, nor should they be, to stand in a corner waiting for catch-n-shoot opportunities while Scoot practices PG. He's not that good at it and unless Dundon cleans house of management and coaching, the Blazers will be all about 'winning-time-now' next season, like they are this season, and not have much development time available

if Scoot is uncomfortable playing with Deni...tough shit. Deni is several tiers better as is. He's also not nearly as experienced as Dame and Jrue at finding mesh points with other players. Both Dame and Jrue have abilities to defer to better players, but that isn't Scoot. I wouldn't worry about Scoot/Sharpe as they had a pretty good synergy last season. There's also the Grant factor if he's around
