I'm a portland native but have been living in seattle for about 4 years now. I'm also a die-hard blazers fan. I've noticed throughout the years I've lived here that people in seattle dislike the blazers very much. I've even heard someone say "they're a waste of a nba team...in my opinion". (Thank you for that opinion...u d bag). There are virtually no blazer products at retail shops/malls and hardly anything of the blazers at all up here. I kind of understand considering they lost the sonics and i wouldn't be too happy about the nba either if i was them. But why such animosity? I know people in portland root for or at least watch the seahawks and the mariners, why the no support for the only nba team in the NW. And lets face it, its only until recently the seahawks became relevant and before that, seattle was a dumpster-fire sports town with 2 underachieving pro teams. Any thoughts?

Bitterness, we'd be the same way had we moved to okc instead of the Sonics. Losing a pro team that many grew up rooting for has to sting.

This is all I have to say to Seattle

That and suck it. We had to watch your shitty ass football and baseball teams all throughout my younger days. And don't even get me started on how many times you've almost lost your "beloved" pro teams up there.

It's probably because they are a depressed part of the world. Aren't they #1 in suicides?

Yeah I don't get the hate. Portland didn't pilfer their team, Bennett and Stern did. Their local politicians didn't help when they had the chance. If the situation were reversed, I wouldn't take it out on them. Might as well be pissed at Boise or San Francisco. That they have zero interest in the nearest NBA team is kind of telling, IMO, and is at least part of the reason they lost theirs. Let them eat cake. On a cold gray wet day.

And yet Portland is basically Seahawk territory now, ain't it great? That's one of the reasons i like the Niners, tired of them being shoved down our throat.

Well, it would be like if Portland lost it's team and the nearest team was the Lakers. I wouldn't become a laker fan because of "west coast pride" or whatever, I'd just gouge my eyes out with a rusty bra underwire

Back in the day the niners and the seahawks were both on TV, because Seattle was in the afc. But nobody gave a shit, that I remember at least.

I really don't get how people from Portland can root for any team from Seattle. Fuck the Ms, fuck the Hawks. I'm a Portlander.

People in Seattle think there's a rivalry (or, in their mind, a big-brother/little-brother relationship) between Portland and Seattle. People in Portland (mostly) just don't give a fuck and enjoy the fact that Seattle is a short drive away for a weekend visit.

And soccer fans say they can't understand why soccer isn't more popular in the US than it is.

the most popular sport in the US is football, and they have some of the most violent and dangerous crowds. So yeah, I can't imagine why.

This makes some sense. When I was watching a game recently up here there was definitely a bunch of people rooting for Portland and I thought it was weird. You just don't see many Blazer fans in Seattle. But then, I realized it was because they were playing the Thunder.

Yep. I grew up hating seattle as the blazers biggest rival besides maybe the lakers. As a result I became a niners fan and refuse all things Seattle.

I don't blame them. We were bitter rivals for almost 40 years. It would be kind of hard switch over to us. Plus throw in all the Huskie fans in Seattle who are tired of getting their asses kicked by the Ducks for the last 11 years.......there is a lot of animosity up there toward our sports teams.

The Blazers/Sonics rivalry wasn't really that good during my fandom. The reason? The teams were never both good at the same time.

Haha that's sweet. I feel bad for all the kids going  when the crowd curses towards the end of the chant.

Same here. I actually kinda liked the Sonics when I was a kid. Ray Allen/Rashad Lewis/Luke Ridnour were fun to watch.

Fuck Seattle.

True Sonics fans, I can respect, the ones through thick and thin. But a majority of Seattle-ites are suburban yuppie bangwagoners, as you can see with their manufactured "12th Man" bullshit. I wouldn't expect them to like Portland.

I remember I went to Seattle a few years ago after they lost the Sonics. Some fuck came up to me randomly and was like "Yeah bro, the Lakers won tonight". I was like "Fuck the Lakers" and he genuinely looked Shell-Shocked. A lot of Lakers fans up there for some reason, I think B-Roy was a L*kers fan growing up.

The whole 12th man thing is over a decade old for the Seahawks... (the raising of the Flag and jersey stuff at least)

Dozens of teams use the "12th man" nonsense, Seattle fans actually affect games with theirs though

Fuck the Seachickens (sorry Paul). I'm tired of them being forced down our throats. I dont know how anyone in Oregon can root for them. Boo all things Washington.

ugh, between the patriots, cowboys, and seachickens, thats all we get for football broadcast here in OR.

f-that.

Yeah, and that was tame. I took my young daughters to a Timbers "match" a couple of years ago. Never again.

The Seahawks actually retired the #12 on December 15, 1984. The Kingdome was very, very loud as well. It's been going on for quite some time. Texas A&M started the whole 12th Man thing though. Go Hawks, either way.
