Seth Curry a Free Agent Target of Detroit?

Curry will stay

It won't be unless he really WANTS to come back. I can't imagine Charlotte doesn't make a run at him as well.
With Marvin Williams and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist picking up their options, Charlotte is at almost $95 million in payroll with only 8 players under contract. They have non or partial guarantees to Tony Parker, Hernangomez, and Dwayne Bacon. Throw in their 1st round pick and the only way they could offer a decent contract to Curry is if Kemba Walker, Jeremy Lamb, and Tony Parker all are gone. Charlotte seems like a long shot to offer more money than anyone else because of this.

I don't have a subscription to the Athletic so I don't know what it says in the article, but the headline says Curry is being targeted by the Pistons this summer

might mean the non-Bird won't be enough to keep Curry, assuming Portland wants to

Detroit is over the cap already this summer. They'll struggle to fill holes under the hard cap if they use the Full-MLE on someone like Curry, so most likely the Tax-MLE would be their biggest offer.

I think Curry and Kanter are probably too rich for Portland's blood, considering their cap structure. Hood might be within their financial grasp--he's played well for Portland in the playoffs, but I don't think he's played so well that he's going to be a hot commodity.

How the hell do you keep tabs on all that shit???

Damn. Lol

I may be remembering something wrong from the CBA, but seem to remember reading that a team only gets hard-capped using the full-MLE if they use more than the amount of the tax-MLE. Is that correct? I guess it's irrelevant as that would make it a distinction without a difference since Portland (or Detroit) would still have a ceiling at the tax-MLE level on what they can spend

Yes, you're correct. With Detroit they could certainly find a way to be able to use the Full-MLE, it would just result in them probably not being able to retain some of their own free agents. I just can't imagine them thinking the key to taking the next step is simply adding Seth Curry to their team.

He is going to opt in to his player option

I don't believe he has an option, even though the article implied he did. BBREF, Basketball Insiders, Hoopshype, & Spotrac all say it's a one year deal with no option.

I can think of A LOT of teams that need shooting, seems like the kind of guy who gets overpaid to me.

well, they have 112M guaranteed for 9 players. 116M if they pick up the option for Glenn Robinson who was pretty crappy this year; so maybe a doubtful option. The two free agents they may, or may not want to keep are Ish Smith and Wayne Ellington. What's weird is them targeting Curry if they were going to re-sign Ellington. Smith was their "starting" PG for 56 games so he'd probably be brought back but he won't be getting any good contract offers.

say they cut Ellington and Robinson, & re-sign Smith for 7M. They'd be 19M under the apron. Their first round pick would put them 17M under and they'd be at 11 players. Pick up the option for Mykhailiuk and they'd be 15.5M under with 12 players. Curry would put them at 13 players. A vet minimum would put them at 14 players leaving 13M under the apron and then it would be what they gave Curry

so they could use their full-MLE and have a safe margin under the apron. But you're right...why the hell do all that for Curry? Detroit appears to be firmly locked onto a treadmill, and Curry isn't getting them off

The Athletic and their garbage reporter Jason Quick can suck my wad.
This is exactly why no player on the team wants to talk to the fucking idiot. This dude Edwards ain't no better and he is playing a page right out of Quicks book.
Why on earth would you post a story about trades and player movement right before quite possibly the players biggest game of his career.
Seriously.... Curry might be the very missing piece this team need to play well tonight.

Fucking dickweeds going after clicks because they are worried their chance to get them might go away after this game.

Curry would be a good fit next to those bigs.

I can see them going after Jrue Holiday this summer for Lueur, Galloway, filler, and picks.

A Curry/Holiday backcourt conpliments each other perfectly, and Jackson as the 6th man would be the perfect role for him. Thatd be the start of something.

I think they'll go after Conley, Holiday, or Beal this summer. Picks, Kennard, and expirings is a decent start.
