Exceeding even my wildest expectations as well, although only through five games.
This was Kobe’s year 3, but here was his age 20 statline: 19.9/5.3/3.8 on .465/.267/.839
Edwards year 2: 21.3/4.8/3.8 on .441/.357/.786
SGA year 2: 19.0/5.9/3.3 on .471/.347/.807
Jordan year 2: 22.7/3.6/2.9 on .457/.167/.840
His development is only exponential at this point, not linear. Is it at the point now that we speak it into existence and optimistically expect him to have a stat line around Jordan’s year 3? Maybe this time next year through five games, we’ll be having this same convo while he averages 38ppg lol.

The game just comes effortless to him. Even when he’s doing things athletically that 90% of the NBA can’t do, he does it nonchalantly.
I remember saying he had a superstar talent right off the bat in his rookie year. My concern has always been whether he had the hunger for greatness. Now I’m starting to think that is just how he is and doesn’t wear his competitiveness on his sleeve.
I actually welcome the thought of an Ant and Shae backcourt to see how it goes for a solid stretch of games. I’d love it even more if Camara started at SF.With Ant and Scoot starting we needed bench scoring...Scoot might not be starting over him when Ant gets back.
If Scoot is coming off the bench at any point that would be another reason to question Billups. With Ant and Scoot starting we needed bench scoring...Scoot might not be starting over him when Ant gets back.
Of course, it’s all depend on Scoot’s development by the time Ant gets back. If Scoot figures out the foul trouble and the starting lineup can get use to his pace of play, then obviously you don’t bench him.If Scoot is coming off the bench at any point that would be another reason to question Billups.
Moving Thybulle to the bench would obviously be the answer then.Shae can't go back to the bench. That would be criminal.
If I'm Cronin, I'm exploring options over the next six weeks. Either Simons or Brogdon need to go. I just don't see Simons being happy coming off the bench.

I don't think you bench him anyway. They need to figure out how to match his pace of play and he needs to figure out how to play aggressive defense with under a foul per quarter.Of course, it’s all depend on Scoot’s development by the time Ant gets back. Who cares if he's okay with it or not. The only focus this franchise should have now is maximizing the development of Shae, Scoot, and Ayton. Anything that gets in the way of that needs to be removed.I absolutely hate that we're going to be super undersized again..... The answer is to trade Simons. Or he needs to be okay coming off the bench.
I agree Simons should be moved. But not as a fire sale. He's a valuable player and we need to get value in return.Who cares if he's okay with it or not. I think moving Simons has been the obvious move for a while now. Let Brogdon come off the bench and anchor the 2nd unit.

I think both are very fair points. Well, I’ll say Shae’s play so far has made me more optimistic that he can play SF, if anything. I actually like the idea of Shae having to guard the best wing every night. You could always sub in Brogdon and Camara for Ant and Shae eventually, and maybe Ant and Shae can start the 2nd quarter with Camara, Walker, and Williams.Yeah you don't bench Scoot if you want to keep Ayton happy. Scoot was really cooking with Ayton before he got hurt.

You don’t move Ant for anything less than a starting level wing, and it has to be a long term piece. Otherwise, the previous 6 years of investing in his development would’ve been all for a 1st or whatever.Who cares if he's okay with it or not. I love that the microphone caught Scoot yelling to Ayton after his sweet lob oop "LET'S FUCKING GOOOOO DA!!!!!".Yeah you don't bench Scoot if you want to keep Ayton happy. Scoot was really cooking with Ayton before he got hurt.
Are PF's wings? Cause I'd love for us to have a young PF and also move off of Grant. I'd love to get someone like Jabari Smith Jr. I know he's not available, but a young PF with upside. You don’t move Ant for anything less than a starting level wing, and it has to be a long term piece. Your Meyers Leonard fetish has morphed. The Blazers should trade Simons for Lauri Markkanen. He is the one that the Blazers need to be contenders.
He can also be our starting SF. He's defended 3s particularly well this year.He should be our permanent starting SG. Should’ve been last year too. He’s our best player and will be for a long time
Undersized is fine if you compete and don't get beat off the dribble. The problem is the Blazers consistently got beat off the double for years and couldn't get through a screen. Sharpe is defending threes just fine. Simons has another gear in him defensively and defended Kawhi well on opening night. At times it felt like Dame defended SFs better than PGs.I absolutely hate that we're going to be super undersized again..... The answer is to trade Simons. Or he needs to be okay coming off the bench.
Thanks for talking some sense. You don’t move Ant for anything less than a starting level wing, and it has to be a long term piece. Otherwise, the previous 6 years of investing in his development would’ve been all for a 1st or whatever.
