Chauncey Billups during the Draft Press Conference REALLY caught my attention...
"We watched him workout in Chicago and we all left there amazed of his ability. For me, I wanted to see how competitive he was. He is a very quiet guy, very humble and quiet-really reminds me of Ant personality wise. When we brought him here, we had a very intense good workout. We had some guys that were very animated and I really wanted to see how he would handle it. If his confidence would waver if he didn't shoot or play well. I left there so impressed. He stayed composed the entire time, he had this really silent confidence that I really loved. He was very very competitive in the workout, I was impressed with his feet defensively, I didn't see that in the tapes because he didn't have to guard anyone in High School for the most part. I was impressed with him and like Joe said, he was our guy"
As soon as we drafted Shaedon, the team put out unrealsed footage from the workout and most of it is actually Shaedon defensive highlights.
Most of it is him absolutely locking down Jamaree Bouye who is a 23 year old 6'2 guard who signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Miami Heat 2 weeks ago. There is a clip of Shaedon scoring a pull up 3 on Dalen Terry but this is a 1 minute clip so who knows what really happened during the workout BUT Chauncey's comments lead me to believe that Fisher and Woo are off base on what happened during the workout. Frankly it doesn't make sense that Fisher thought Dalen had a better workout and helped him land in the top 20 but then said sources in Portland weren't impressed with Dalen.
I remember watching this interview by Dalen Terry and I think it obvious that Chauncey was referring to him as being the "animated" competitor that tested Shaedon. I believe that Dalen really tried to go at Shaedon because of the difference in their draft projections and Chauncey came away thinking that Shaedon competed, stayed composed, and had this silent confidence. That is pretty freaking sweet to hear in my opinion. I mean yeah there is the noise that he didn't want to compete and people are questioning his personality but this story from Chauncey give me hope that Shaedon will develop some more of that dog in him even if he has a introverted personality. That silent killer mentality is sick and the fact that didn't get phased is promising. Again, this is just one situation being highlighted but I think Sharpe workout enticed us on top of the mystery high school clips from over a year ago.
