Shaedon Sharpe vs Brandon Roy

People said that Cade Cunningham was like Grant Hill.
People say a lot of things trying to get attention.

While they are both bigger guys with a handle and play making skills, physically Cade is a size smaller (SG sized) then Grant (SF). Grant was also a better run jump athlete to my eyes.

Ok, Ill be the first to say it “very young MJ” not MJ after his 7th year in the league.
He’s got the same confidence and can move to the hoop with authority.

I agree. He’s got the body type and athleticism of MJ or Kobe when they were young. He isn’t likely to be nearly as good as either, but he definitely has the physical gifts.

I loved Roy. Few fan bases take things as personally as Portland. Maybe no other place actually. If you don’t make it clear you fucking love this place you’re dead to them. Dude is born and raised Seattle. He took a contract that the idiot Wolves were giving him. He still wanted to play. Paul Allen gave him a boatload of money. None of this is his fault. He was a great dude too.

Yeah after reading his "crime", which it turns out I already knew about, I don't care that much. Was there a cap hit that crippled us like with D. Miles? This was when I was nursing my fan wounds just like during the Jail Blazers years and not paying attention to the team. I saw his MJ hand switch against the Raptors 7 rows back on the hoop he did it on. I will never forget that and will always cherish that memory.

If I recall correctly it wasn’t so much that it hurt Portlands cap situation but his money owed to him was not covered by insurance because he was not medically retired anymore. I need to look it up.

Not trying to pick on you, but when I read stuff like this, I always wonder how these conclusions are made. It would be hard to quantify from a straight data standpoint, and unless you're as invested in all other fan bases as you are in Portland's, you're likely to come to extreme conclusions that are probably inaccurate.

All fan bases have sensitive fans, all fan bases turn on their players, all fan bases blame the refs/coaches. These are common even if you just skim message boards.

I’m pretty confident that Portland is worse than others. Nobody has to agree with me. I’ve lived in Portland, San Francisco/Oakland, LA and San Diego. No, I have not lived in every NBA city. But nowhere I’ve been or I’m aware of hates guys who played there for a year (Felton) or don’t like a rookie of the year, all stars, who just moved home and don’t come visit. Portland takes things personally. Just my opinion.

Not questioning that it's an opinion, just how you are confident this is unique behavior. I certainly see this stuff throughout many fan bases and I don't even dig that deep. Obviously I see more of it with Blazer fans because a majority of the content I take in, is local.

Same experience from me as well, lived in NYC, SF and San Diego, got the same impression

MJ was like a cat when he came into the league. Twitchy as can be, dunking on everyone. While SS's physical gifts seem in the same realm, he isn't as aggressive/psycho. He's smoother with a better jumper & 2 years younger.

Four guys I keep thinking about:

He's got Brandon Roy's "it" factor, where everything just looks easy and graceful for him. He stepped into the gym and vets say,"Oh yeah, he's going to be an all star."

He's got Travis Outlaw's leaping ability. We've had some athletes since I started following the team, but Outlaw was just on another level. Once a game he'd do something where we'd buzz afterwards (often a loss) about that one play and all his potential. Problem was he just wasn't very bright. He was like Meyers Leonard--a million dollar body in a ten cent head.

Very excited to see what happens. I feel like we may about to go through what the Mavs had, where the team was defined by Dirk, and then an even better player in Luka came along.

Roy, Luka, Dirk and Travis Outlaw--I wonder if those 4 guys have ever been in the same sentence on the Internet before this one?

This sequence in the Miami game was nuts. Sharpe goes way up in the air, he really wanted this rebound, knocking Josh Hart to the ground.
And that last frame, leaning in and tossing the ball up and into the hoop between two defenders.

Looking at this next frame, what's Sharpe going to do?? Doesn't look good.

Oh yeah, this is what he's going to do. Holy guacamole.

i don’t disagree but that’s also the passion this fan base brings to this team. I would rather have those types of fans rather than the bandwagon ones. There are a few players that broke my fandom, Clyde was one absolutely one of my favorite players but he didn’t have the same love for Blazers I don’t hate him just no longer a top five favorite Blazer (does make my top 10). Doesn’t make him or me bad person

“Brandon Roy… Brandon Roy!! The three, count it, and there’s a foul”

“Brandon Roy has done this before”

“Flashback!”

-Announcers during B-Roy’s iconic game 4 Vs Dallas in the playoffs.

I was at that game, game was so boring up until 4th quarter then all hell broke loose. Fans went Crazy, my hand hurt from giving so many high fives all the way to parking lot with random people.

The Portland fan base has a pretty earned reputation as being some of the most obsessive in the league (good and bad). Just listen to the way national media guys talk about PDX fans and the hate they get when they say anything bad the team. My guess is it comes from being a one pony town in the professional sports world!

Brandon Roy is the reason Portland still has a basketball team. He does not owe anyone anything. Glad he got another payday after sacrificing his health for the success of this team.

Sharpe has a bit of Brandon in his game, but he does not as of yet seem to have the handles and thus can not really be the point guard of an NBA team as Roy was a de-facto point guard. I suspect Sharpe will be a much better 3 point shooter and hopefully can advance his handle and playmaking abilities as he goes along.

Sharpe shares with (young) Roy that he has a game that would serve him well even if he weren't explosive (sweet shooting, can drive) but can flash eye-popping hops if need be.

I just really have a hard time believing this. Paul might have sold the team, but I really don't think the team would have been moved.

I don't know how people can be so confident that the team won't move now, but so many people believe that the team would have moved if not for Brandon Roy.

Its a false narrative built on 100% assumptions. The team sucked and the fan base was apathetic with no star to stargaze. Broy comes along and makes us better and the fans embrace him.

This is what has turned into this narrative. Im not aware of any other evidence leading to the conclusion the team might have moved.
