The question I have at this point is, regardless of whether the Trail Blazers are actually engaging in a dirty tricks campaign against Olshey--if Olshey believes that they are, is this really a working relationship that can be salvaged? Like, if the investigation clears him, is everything back to normal, Olshey working for the betterment of the franchise he believes smeared him to try to get out of paying him?

Feels like a strange situation.

Seems like a game of chicken. Maybe the Blazers gambled that Olshey would just quietly resign when he was told the investigation was coming. Failing that, go for firing with cause of an abusive culture. (That sure sounds a lot better than firing him for being incompetent for a fucking decade. I mean, if you fire him for that you have to admit you've allowed him to be incompetent for a decade.)

Olshey didn't quit, though, maybe because he realizes there aren't going to be a lot of teams lining up for his services given how shitty he's been at building around Dame, especially after the disastrous 2016 contracts. And he sounds like an asshole, so maybe there might not be a lot of business opportunities through his network. So getting legit bought out is his only real source of big money in the future. Unless he can get another soap opera gig.

Olshey preferred to get his name dragged through the mud and still get paid. I guess I don't blame him, since his reputation was worthless anyway.

And I don't blame the Blazers for trying. Olshey wasted so much of the Blazers' money, they figured why not recoup a little. They could've then told themselves the Blazers have done just dandy for the past 10 years, but it's just a shame Olshey was such a jerk. Maybe they'd also get some good PR by making a social statement about workplace misbehavior. Maybe it would help wash the stink off from the Billups rape allegation.

Regardless, the point of chicken is that somebody has to swerve. If nobody does, it ends badly for everyone. I can't see how this ends with Olshey still employed, or the Blazers not paying him.

Or he just doesn't want to give up $20 million.

Most likely they're wanting to find out if he did shit they need to worry about in lawsuits.

This is the franchise that owes Terry Stotts money, and still owes money to players who never played for the team.
They actually don't. The cap hit got stretched out but that doesn't mean the payments did too.

The Blazers are paying Andrew Nicholson $2.8 million through 2024

No. Nicholson got all his money several years ago per the terms of his player contract. The NBA just allows teams to spread the money out over several years on their salary CAP calculation. They are 2 separate things.

Oh, ok

But, it is still on the books and goes against our cap

we had word of this that the investigation was actually supposed to conclude on the 5th. That's two weeks ago. Neil met with the law firm on Tues/Wed.

How is this still not done yet? Take a decision already. I'm ready to move on from it.

Applying 2 coats of whitewash takes time.

"At least one Portland employee has reported potential misconduct..."

this is a pathetic excuse for journalism.

Two weeks ago. Shams names been atop the forum ever since. Thats why I consider him and Woj reporters not journalists.

Probably a decision has already been made--there seems like no way both sides are going to want status quo. I imagine this drags on and nothing is announced until a deal is made over what the Blazers will pay Olshey on his way out.

Just watch. Instead of being fired, this cockroach is going to wind up being given the president job as well - plus a big raise and a contract extension.

Anybody know a good GSW forum? It would be so refreshing to discuss a well run team for a change.

Quick:

There is a good chance he keeps his job. This was going to be a short investigation. They talked to 60 people in 2 days and it keeps being expanded. If they had found anything, they would have canned him by now. People have told me... they haven't found anything. The Woj story about this union of sorts to protect against accusations is really telling. I think people in the league know Neil. He can be abrasive, but being mean is a not a reason to fire him. What do they really have here? They have some employees saying "he's being mean and he yelled at me." They don't have enough to act on it.

I don't think this originated from Jody/Kolde. They're simply doing their due diligence and listening to employees. I have an idea of where it's coming from but don't have it rock solid yet. This is a coordinated effort potentially from people in the organization who don't like him. In 10 yrs, almost nobody has left BECAUSE of him. He has had almost 0 turnover, 0 HR complaints. There's a lot of things that don't add up. We'll see if the investigation issues a report, but I think it's turning a bit.

Re: Death of video coordinator--
Immediately after, Olshey offered employees counseling. There were some who felt like there weren't efforts to replace him and their workloads increased. I'm not clear but don't feel like that is at the core of this investigation.

Maybe he'll make it through this too. If there were enough people that felt like they had to walk on eggshells because of Neil's temper after having seen it unleashed on others. I would think that would be enough for Vulcan to fire him with cause. That being said maybe the object of this investigation was PR. Maybe they wanted to show they would do their due diligence and wanted to keep Neil the whole time. Maybe we can count on years and years more of this useless snake oil salesman.

There's also the chance that Quick and Woj, who are cozy with Olshey, think that it looks like Olshey might get out of this and are spinning this for him so that they stay in his good graces. I guess eventually we'll see.

This is going to be so depressing.

Neil stays.
No big moves happen this season.
We go out in the first or second round.

See you in the summer.

If they make the second round i would be ecstatic! This is the first year with a brand new coach.

Woj, maybe. But I've been following Quick for 20+ yrs. He's not that manipulative. I think he's simply out to find a good story.

A concerted effort by more than one party to get him fired? Who could that be?
