News says he was shooting massive amounts of heavy rounds for a while before this happened...

Constitutional amendment to ban most every gun? I'm down, always have been even though I never thought it should be necessary.

I don't know how this crazy person would have done it without guns but whatever.

Hundreds of Millions of firearms in our nation already. It's going to take a lot to round 'em up.

I can't even imagine. The value of them has to be off the charts. I know plenty of dummies who blow thousands of dollars a year on them.

California, along with New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Connecticut, Maryland and the District of Columbia, has the strictest firearm laws in the nation.

Which means nothing when the other states have little or no laws and no real boarders between them.

Guess with so little people dying, nobody wants to argue about it.

Hmmm....

He declined to release the name of the shooter but said he was “aware” of a domestic violence incident that neighbors reported.

Brian Flint told the Record Searchlight newspaper in the city of Redding that his neighbor, whom he knows only as Kevin, was the gunman and that his roommate was among the victims. He said the shooter also stole his truck.

“The crazy thing is that the neighbor has been shooting a lot of bullets lately, hundreds of rounds, large magazines,” Flint said. “We made it aware that this guy is crazy and he’s been threatening us.”

the guy doesn't seem very believable for some reason. Maybe his manuerisms or the way he avoids eye contact.

If these nuts smoked good mellow weed, there could be a chance their anger dissipates.

Finally, a reality check.

In a country of over 300 million people, gun murders are an ever-decreasing anomaly.

So you'd be "down" with completely scrapping the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?

Because it can't exist at all without the 2nd Amendment.

It appears that California's surrogate courts' penchant for naïve laxness in prosecutions and the absence of any supervision of the accused attempted murderer allowed him to obtain and ILLEGALLY possess arms and ammunition. He was also allowed to roam free in the community despite knowledge that he had guns and had threatened people's lives. The lawsuits are going to be huge.

There's a lot of lunatics like this in rural southern Oregon/ northern California. A lot of them fall through the cracks since they can just disappear in the rural areas.

It's pointless to argue. We have the same people saying ban guns or certain guns like semi automatics, etc. I will point this out for the millionth time, there are places in this country that have the strictest gun laws and it doesn't matter, Chicago being my go to example. Every time that point is made, nobody has a counterpoint. I think there should be stricter background checks but honestly the issue nobody wants to talk about is mental health. That's the real issue. I could sit here and point out all those that have died by car accidents every year or even the terrorist attacks done with vehicles or knives. It doesn't matter. Always goes back to guns. The terrorist attack in Nice that happened not long ago was done with a truck and that person killed 77 with it. Lets go to china. 2014. 29 killed by dudes with knives. http://www.cnn.com/2014/03/01/world/asia/china-railway-attack/index.html.

Seems to me the real issue here is religious ideology and extremism and mental health issues. Whether its a terrorist attack or a lone gunman opening fire on people. I google how many guns are in the states. This is dated 2013

More than a third of Americans say they or someone in their household owns a gun. There are by various estimates anywhere from 270 million to 310 million guns in the United States — close to one firearm for every man, woman and child. But in point of fact, only a minority of Americans own guns.

Okay so that tells me based on how many guns we have, these shootings that occur really aren't all that often given the amount of guns in this country and how many Americans own them. I look at these shootings and hate them too, it's disgusting. My first thought though isn't about guns. Honestly it's mental health. Backed by statistics, guns aren't the issue in this country.

And that's not a factual or accurate example.
https://www.google.com/amp/www.chic...ng/ct-20-shot-weekend-20171113-story,amp.html

Weekend violence in Chicago included two men killed by rifle fire as they left a party in Brighton Park, a 14-year-old boy shot in the leg on the Far South Side and two men wounded on Lake Shore Drive within 15 minutes of each other.

In all, 20 people were shot in the city from Friday afternoon through early Monday, bringing the number of people shot this year to at least 3,228. That's more than 600 people this time last year, but still substantially higher than other recent years, according to data kept by the Tribune.

There have been at least 598 homicides this year, 88 fewer that last year but, again, notably higher than other recent years. Chicago is close to recording 600 homicides for only the second time since 2003, when 601 homicides were recorded for the entire year.

Mostly done with guns obtained illegally

@Cippy91,
first of all, Chicago doesn't have the strictest gun laws. http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/...hicago-gun-laws-explainer-20171006-story.html

Secondly, it doesn't mean anything because it's one location in a nation with pours gun laws.

Thirdly, yes, there are ~300M guns in the US, and I own several. And a many gun owners, a majority according to some polls, support some tighter restrictions or regulations. Go to armslist.com and see how easy it is to buy without meeting any criteria, without a background check, without providing a name or an ID. Without having to show that you aren't a felon, without having to checked out that you aren't mentally ill, without anything whatsoever.

Is mental instability and lack of adequate mental healthcare a huge problem that would also help? Absolutely. But just because one thing matters doesn't mean others don't. We can offer better healthcare, we can have more safety nets and we can also make sure those who are prone to violence are not allowed to buy legally or to easily be able to buy illegally by methods that aren't tracked or reviewed. We can have some restrictions and still not ban all guns. There is an in-between.
