Should Chauncey be on the hot seat?

Stotts got a team with Aminu and Harkless as starters, and Enes Kanter starting in the playoffs, to the WCF! By your own definition that makes him a fucking awesome coach. (All 3 of them are out of the league now.)

That was a fluky western conference title appearance. Kind of like the Hawks a couple years back

I scratch my head at some of the decisions he has made this season sure. However, do I think he should be on the hot seat at this point in time? No, I don't. Our bench is subpar at best and that certainly doesn't help matters. But yes I will say that if we barely squeak into the playoffs after(If he does mind)we make some moves to get better than yes I could see some discussions being had.

But again bit premature imo right now.

Not this year. Next year he will need to produce a bit better. Can’t fire a coach inside of two years unless he is really bad or the players have quit.
This team has not quit on him.

They've quit on themselves.

I’ve always kind of thought that really good players don’t make the greatest coaches. Look at what the nerdy analytical dude is doing with that Thunder roster.

That magic act I'll probably never fully understand. Not to mention, we managed to lead the majority minutes played in the WCF (just couldn't finish them off). Truly amazing accomplishment.

I'm still cool with Chauncey. I think the idea of sharing the ball has gotten into Dame's head a little and he probably needs to start only making passes that feel natural to him. If Dame just does Dame and the team around him moves like Chauncey wants them to, then we can see if Chauncey doesn't know what he's doing on offense. On defense we just don't have the length and the one place where we do have size is the slowest starter in the league. So I want to see Chauncey continue to get acclimated to coaching, the team get more acclimated to Chauncey's philosophies and the team get more cohesive as a unit on both ends.

As far as Cronin goes, I'm not saying the guy is the savior of the team but he said at the beginning of the season that this roster is not ready to contend and that he would re-evaluate and make moves at this point (mid season) and in the upcoming off season again.

The shit we are seeing is frustrating but it's not like Chauncey is telling the guys to go out there and make stupid/lazy passes and he's definitely not out there telling them to be smaller or telling Nurk to be slower. If it was ten or even six seasons in, I would want Chauncey to be feeling the heat but as is he should feel comfortable to continue to try to execute his vision and to learn/grow as a head coach.

Billups is the Nathaniel Hackett of the NBA. We need to shake things up and get rid of him.

I honestly dont know when a coach should be fired.

My test has always been: Are you more likely to be able to identify and acquire a noticably better replacement. If so, pull the trigger.

There are ways to work the back channels to figure out who is available and interested prior to letting a coach go.

Absolutely. Has anyone else experience this kind of repeat cycle before? Game after game same shit. They won’t move on, but they should.

I think the repeat cycle is folks on this message board wanting to fire the coach, then within a couple years, wanting to fire the next one. These folks haven't thought one coach in the last couple decades has been any good, yet for some reason they think the next one might be the one.

We got a guy with no experience and it shows. And this is our second coach in over 10 years, what are you talking about?

And are you watching the games?!? There is no way you are otherwise you wouldn't act like the repeat cycle isn't a thing.

Did you honestly get the feeling after their second time scratching and clawing back into that game against the Raptors that they quit on themselves? I didn't see that at all? Where will this place stand if this team wins 3 or 4 straight now? How will you react if this team wins 8 of the next 10? The next month is full of teams this team not only can beat but should beat. They have a tough B2B next weekend against the Mavs here in Portland. That will be fun to watch.
All the downers can do their own thing. Me personally I'm enjoying this season. They have done everything i was hoping they would do to this point. Feb 14th is the last game before the All Star break. Between Now and that game they have exactly 4 road games. 3 of those games are in one trip. 15 home games over the next 5 weeks. Then they all get a 9 day break. 13-6 over the next 19 games puts them 32-25 going into the break. 7 games over .500.

Personally i just cannot see how anyone could look at the schedule and not see that this team is in a good position for the rest of the season?

This is not the team we saw in November. Yes, there's always some luck. Other team misses free throws, for example. But over and over I am seeing the Blazers unable to hold late leads. I see an expectation of defeat. Like last year. I have no idea what caused this collapse but the Coach damn well should.

It's gotten to the point where I have stopped watching because I keep getting upset over something I have no control over.

This team has a legit superstar, solid complementary players, a talented rookie. Yet they seem to be going backwards.

in theory, yes. given the timeline we have with Dame and the urgency to win now.

in reality, not unless ownership changes. Chauncey has three years left on his deal AFTER this one. doubt vulcan will give the go-ahead to even entertain replacing him this early. And everything suggests the franchise is taking the long term approach and will give him the leeway to work out his issues.

i think chauncey has shown he can be a good coach. his principles are sound and i like the way he communicates and relates to players. but the on-court product has left a lot to be desired so far as he's growing.

I've watched the majority of games for 30 years. Fans have bitched about how bad Billups, Stotts, Nate, Cheeks, Dunleavy, and PJ were.

Who was the last coach we had that lived up to your standards? Adelman?

He should not be on the hot seat. However, if we can get a proven coach who has proven they can win in the playoffs we should do so. Unless Chauncey starts overachieving.

Same stance I had with Stotts. Though Stotts had more success to leverage.

Yes and in theory the Blazers should go after Quinn Snyder but reality says they probably won’t.

We need a guy like that as our lead assistant, specifically focused on offense.

But often nobody knows if they're going to be good! Half the excellent coaches in the NBA I never heard of before they became coaches. The guy in Utah. The guy in Boston. The guy in Memphis. The guy in OKC...

I maintained at the time and I still maintain that Chauncey hired Scott Brooks as his assistant so that if the FO was thinking of firing him, they'd go "do we really want Scott Brooks to take over? Nah!"

Chauncey channeling Machiavelli?
