I liked his comments because I agree with the majority of what he is saying and has said on here in the past.
White fragility is very real. I remember very early on with a lot of the decentralizing and what not training I've done through school, it hits you where you start to get angryor defensive about being blamed, until you take a step back. Then you see the same tired excuses trotted out a lot. Well, I didn't own slaves, why don't they get over it. Well I didn't do any lynching. Well I didn't...yadda yadda yadda.
And, I just disagree that generalizing white people is somehow on par with the general racism we see every day in our society towards the global majority.

I never said anything about being on par. It just blows my mind that in this current society where we seem to be HYPER sensitive to all things related to racism and sexism or bigotry and just generally offensive behavior, someone like Dviss can come on here and just start spouting all kinds of generalized opinions about white people and you guys are cool with it. It pisses me off. It feels like a double standard.

It's white fragility that you're experiencing. If you aren't included in the racists, why include yourself?

You gotta get to a point to where you understand that white supremacy is embedded in every system and that people who look like me bear the brunt to this day. You don't experience racism so you have a skewed view of what it is and don't listen to those who experience it everyday.

I can't even watch fucking pornography without seeing racism...
Folks invented a fake white Jesus so that even when we close our eyes to pray we could only imagine a white savior...

People who look like you continue to benefit off of that system that continues to oppress me. The same people who invented said those systems, invented the constructs of white and black. And for you to simply say "that's just the way it is, I didn't choose it", is not only completely disregarding of those bearing the brunt, but it acknowledges that you know what's happening but don't want to do anything about it. All the while thinking someone is being racist to you because they talk generally about the people who created this system. A system that when we march for justice, we're told and showed our lives don't matter.

If you wouldn't trade the way white people are generally treated in society for how black people are, it means:
  • You know what's happening to us.
  • You know you don't want it for yourselves.
  • But since it's happening to us and not you, it isn't a concern...
So instead of it really being truth, justice, and the American way...

It's, find every excuse to explain away black people's presumed guilt in order to keep 911 as my personal customer service line, because I'm afraid of said people...

Where are your people from? Because that's your heritage...

The difference is white people, so called, are not marginalized because of color. There is such a thing as white supremacy, white fragility, white resentment, etc. It's the dominant group freaking out because they aren't always on top the way they think it should be.

Say what? There are Black folks like this ALL over the USA! Don't think there isn't. This isn't to say you don't have a position. You do. However, there are alternatives, as well. If you want to be completely one-sided, then it is what it is.

This thread has convinced me of what I already knew, we badly need to teach about race (so called) and racism in our schools. Banning teaching about it won't make it go away any more than banning teaching evolution made evolution not happen.

You're not talking about racists. You're talking about white people. Why is it wrong to not want to have all white people lumped together in your opinions? I don't feel like this is such a big ask. When you talk about white men, am I part of that group? How do you classify someone as white? You say it's a construct, but who gets to decide who is and who is not white? Am I no longer white if I say that I'm not a racist? It's all very confusing.
